    Realm data from blizzard only updates roughly hourly in the EU and 1-2 hours in the US so if you make your requests hourly you will never be "stale" as such and will not exceed your daily limit

    Hey Bart! I appreciate the response man, but is the answer to my questions simply no? There is no way for me to know there is new AH data available without asking for Realm Items and using up one of my daily requests?

    According to your answer, it sounds like my data can be "stale" (I promise I'm not trying to sound argumentative, I'm just trying to understand so I can use the API to the best of my abilities).

    If I lookup Realm Items and then don't look for another hour, it is possible that the AH data could be updated anytime between when I look the first and second times. I think means my data will have a high probability of being out of date.

    First API request: 12:00
    API Data Updated: 12:45
    Second API request: 1:00 - 15 minutes stale

    First API request: 12:00
    API Data Updated: 12:30
    Second API request: 1:00 - 30 minutes stale

    First API request: 12:00
    API Data Updated: 12:01
    Second API request: 1:00 - 59 minutes stale

    Well, you could alternatively use the developer API to figure out when Blizzard last updated their AH data. I am not sure if TSM updates the data at once when the AH data is available.

    https://dev.battle.net/

    Using the dev APi you would get a response like this with the timestamp for last updated:
    {
    "files": [{
    "url": "http://auction-api-eu.worldofwarcraft.com/auction-data/57304a565824f2d778f9ad106430c98c/auctions.json",
    "lastModified": 1493360858000
    }]
    }

    @jeffctown, no there isn't currently a way to query when it last updated.
    However you need to understand that by the nature of the blizz snapshots they are already potentially stale by the time that even we get them.
    You can either do as Ukon suggested or even just look at the TSM site to figure out your start point - last updated for your realm will work out roughly to be the same minute either hourly for EU or every 2 hours for US
