    stockpiling GIO

As i have read the patch notes for BS leveling 1-500 using only GhostIron Bars i have started to stocpile and hoping prices will inrease as 5.2 hits. My questions: A.: Is it a good idea or bots will keep the prices low?? B.: How much is enough? I already have 5gbank tabs full of ores.
I also do the JC shuffling so i will also produce lots of gems using these cheap ores. The current price for GIO on my server is 18-20g a stack

If that were me, at 20g a stack i'd be buying them up like mad. regardless of anything else you could pretty much break even just from vendoring the greens from prospects (6 greens per stack = 2 rings or necks at 9g vendor each, am simplifying it, but that's basically it) with anything else you get being pure gravy.

So for me, i'd say go nuts and then just mail back and forth across toons if you haven't the bank space

There is a risk with this investment. The demand might not spike as expected, people who stockpiled might panic and dump their stocks, abruptly decreasing the prices.

Question: Who's got the stomach (and storage capacity) for long term investments?
Answer: I've been selling Titansteel Bars off and on for 350-500g for almost a year, 1-12 at a time.

As long as you have something to do with it (i.e. prospect, smelt, etc.) buy as much as you possibly can at 20g a stack. At that price you are printing free gems. I'm buying all I can at double that price and I just know I won't have enough for two weeks of 5.2

Exactly, I've been buying a lot of GIO @ under 40g on my server, even if prices don't skyrocket I'll still make a profit due to my Jewelcrafter, worst case scenario next expansion.

I certainly would be buying many thousands of ore @ 20/stack since that means, after vendoring jewelry, you get two each rare red, blue, yellow gems and 1.1 primal diamond for about 40g plus labor. At some point, there is just not enough netflix time so it would not be fun to get too many.

Leveling BS with GIO is a very minor impact. For one thing, knowledgeable people will still be using the cheaper materials; it mainly just prevents bottleknecks. In fact, the BS change will *lower* the price of ore in 5.2 since it is getting a lot of press and the the non-Stormspire crowd is saying they need to stockpile GIO for this non-event. And just how many people are going to level BS in 5.2 who won't buy ore prior to the patch? Some, but is it significant in a market as large as GIO?

My cynical answer is that regardless of what we speculate on, the two questions that will most drive prices:
    1) Will GIO spawn rates change (like when they were halfed a while ago)?
    2) Will this be a technology changes/ban wave patch where there will be several days without bots?

So at 20g/stack, there is zero risk and you have the chance for a huge pop if bots are paused. Just buy and keep as ore. Unfortunately, on my server GIO is 44 - 50g per stack so the risk/reward is much worse.

Because Wow can be botted, hacked, duped, I have a hard time stocking ghost iron ore where there is just so many nodes. Its so available.
I do buy bars under 5g and GIO around 2.5g each, but now with Golden lotus dropping so much and rare gems still holding their value.
I almost think its easier to buy a couple golden lotus to xmute rare gems.

Imagine the supply of ores currently used to level Blacksmithing now. Pour it into a cup, a tub, a pool or a pond - whatever you need. Imagine the demand of those same ores and what they're used for - levelling. That's about it. Nobody really uses old levelling ores for anything. Some may transmute saronite bars to titanium for twink gear and choppers, and some may transmute thorium bars into Arcanite for Sulfuras - but that's a very small niche.

Understand the current equilibrium of the price/demand balance in this market.

Now. Lets look at Ghost Iron Ore. Imagine the supply of GIO. Pour it into a supertanker, a river, or an ocean. Imagine the demand of GIO for things other than levelling. Consider the relative size of supply and demand between GIO and low level blacksmithing bars.

Now, personally, I believe the GIO supply will be more than enough to absorb the additional demands placed on it should levelling switch to GIO. You might see a nominal increase in the price of GIO of 5~10 g/stack on certain days that will be due to this change. The biggest force to affect GIO prices in 5.2 will be 5.2 itself - and the strain on supply that a brand new demand places on the the current market. But don't expect it to be as much of a windfall as 4.3 - no catch-up dungeons means that we're all locked to weekly LFR lockouts - though buffs, nerfs, and charms may help to even that out, we won't see tonns getting raid-ready in a week. The surge in demand will be more steady and sustained.

All that to say that if you aren't already stockpiling GIO for a good reason, then this is a terrible reason to start. Odds are this won't go live in 5.2, as we've seen nothing similar for the other professions, and the resulting QQ from launching something like this as a Blacksmithing-only thing is enough to make Blizzard hold off until they finish with the other professions, imo.

I talked about this in some detail on our last episode of the Call to Auction podcast with Euripides and Namssob. ("Call to Auction" on iTunes)

All that said - I think folks levelling crafting professions will use this. It doesn't make sense to bounce between this and old world levelling methods - the time you'd spend travelling around would be insane. It'd be so much easier to grab 100 stacks of GIO and just blow it all out. With gathering professions now giving experience, a lot of folks wait until they're in Pandaria before levelling new crafting professions, rather than keeping up with them as they go.

Some will; Some won't - So what? Let em die poor.

+Rep doesn't buy me beer, but it sure gives me a reason to have one - if you learned something new or thought about something differently, let's celebrate!
