Aiming to cover two main aspects:
1) How to get desired pets that can be traded.
2) How to price your pet, and how to sell it.
The former version of this guide has been removed for the most part. It wasn't very informative for our purposes here on stormspire.
I have been dealing with pets a lot lately. I have noticed there was a LOT of crucial information that I have learned that many others were not aware of, such as pet breeds, locations, trade methods, and more. This business is not like your typical /2 advert and list on AH method. Tactics for selling, buying, and trading are different, and I will be covering it all.

INTRO

This guide will cover need to knows about pets, such as breeds, rarity, quality, move sets, and other key factors that determine how much your pet should sell for.
You no longer are relying on just the name of the item to set it's price - you have to consider all the factors that come bundled with that pet.

PET BATTLE BASICS

If you are not already familiar with pet battles, such as how to use it, where to find trainers, or what each pet family's special ability is, then I recommend checking out this nice guide. It will get you started and on the right track towards having a suitable pet team for use later on so that you can obtain highly desired pets.

MAKING GOLD WITH PET BATTLES

Pet sales is a tricky matter, and will be approached from different angles from everyone.


Until the AH API and TUJ/wowuction start working together again to give us caged pet data, you will have to use your best judgement for pricing pets. You will get very friendly with wowhead in the mean time. Thumb through the comments and get a feel for the rarity of pets you aren't sure about.
Then once you have a decent idea of a value you are comfy selling at, ADD IT to an auctioning group in TSM so you don't forget later on!

Duplicate Pet Restrictions
The only pets that are flagged as unique are in the categories listed below. This can of course change at any time, but this is what we are looking at for MoP release currently.

• Achievement Pets
• Blizzard Pet Store Pets
• Promotional Pets
• Guild Pets

Everything else will be allowed up to 3x of the same pet. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)



**Pet Daycare**

Someone on my old server started up a nifty service, and will have to try it myself to work out the exact details and how to optimize it.
He runs a pet daycare where he does one of three things with pets:
1) He will trade you his level 25 pet for your level 1 pet of the same kind.
2) You give him a pet and he will level it to 25 by the next day (!... this I need to find out how to optimally do)
3) He just straight up sells you a level 25 pet as long as it's not a hard to get pet such as the whelplings.
He charges 5k for any of the above services.

That thread has become the "official" go to thread for ANYONE selling/buying TCG pets (and mounts). Since pets are account wide, it is easier for people to perform cross realm trades. Getting the gold back to your server is on you though.

CONCLUSION

As we can see, PB has some similarities to pokemon.

Hopefully this guide not only answers some questions you all may have about PB, but also give you an edge above the competition.
For those trainign pets to sell, let me know what you eventually sell your pets for, and details about that pet. This way, other trainers can get an idea of what kind of pets sell for what.

This guide will be updated to match data from beta.
When MoP goes live, hopefully this guide will serve as an official guide on the pet battle system, and how it can earn you gold.

I don't see why not.

@TimB Great write up! I never thought that the pet battle system would be this in depth, but then again, there are people who put TONS of times into plenty of other elements of the game besides pvp/pve. Fishing for example. Should be fun! I doubt i'll play it much cept between RBG queues, but when i do i'll be sure to come back

@Holyjoe , I'm sure you could if you wanted to quickly level some pets.
For those who are strictly doing it to sell them, do keep in mind it may still be beneficial to know some basic strategies so you can run through the Pet Masters and unlock abilities, increasing value of the pet.

@Tangster - I'm quite excited about not only this, but other new PvE and PvP outlets in MoP. It's good to see that Blizzard is opening more options for both PvP and PvE other than smash some bosses, smash some player's teeth in, collect loot, sit in Org/SW.
While I do enjoy the classic forms of PvE and PvP, I have also always wished there was more to do during off nights of raiding.

Hopefully these new outlets will also mean new markets for earning gold, as well. I will poke around with challenge modes and farm lands to see if some coin can be earned from those. I doubt challenge modes will provide any gold making potential, but farms may prove otherwise.

@fateswarm , @Brittlebee hit the nail. It's not what pets are in your team, but the overall function of the team that determines it's team type and purpose. While it is also true that your team needs certain pets to make it the team type that it is, one single pet can be used for multiple team types. Part of it is what abilities and pets you have, but part of is also HOW you use those abilities and passives to execute certain strategies.

Fateswarm, you are right though... a single team can be built to serve multiple strategy types. So, sure, you can have a team that is both balanced and technical. It just depends on how you use your team.
You might have your team against another balanced team and think "ok, I just need to block X pet's attacks, and setup to KO Y pet because it's weak against my Z pet."
But, then you could face a different opponent with your same team from above, and their team could be a wall team. Then you would think "oh, crap, I won't be able to take this guy down easy. But I do have x ability that can paralyze A opponent, and Z ability that can chip away at B opponents' pet's health."

Technical teams can be confusing for newer players, and is a bit of an advanced team type, as it requires careful execution and setting up.

Once I get my PC hooked up and online, I'll be jumping on beta and podcasting some battles and strategies.


There has been a LOT of new info regarding pet battles since I moved to Florida.... I'll be getting my stuff moved in this week (finally).
