For a crafting profession I would suggest only alchemy until the next profitable transmute (i.e. one with a cd). However, on my first days in cata I sold everything that dropped during questing instantly and leveled alchemy later. If something unknown dropped and I passed a mailbox, I instantly mailed it to my bank alt to put it on the AH.

I sold my first volatile life for 400g per piece (the only one as I put it on the AH). I'm still sure it was an occasion for the buyer. People heading for the server first will pay ANY price.

But they also need stuff that the alchemists transmute, so this will also sell very well. However, personally I believe that the insane prices in the first days will pay so well, that it will be more advisable to sell all material and wait a few days (most people will keep them and level their profession - even more limited supply). Further, in Cata it was good not to go directly to the obvious truegold at lvl 525 as people were more in demand for volatile life (needing lower profession level too - double profit).

Hence, any farming profession will make you rich in these few days. It will be even more insane than for cata, because people like me won't be able to farm herbs as I did in Uldum with my lvl 80 druid alt (big lvl83 mob after me? Ups, let's fly away quickly...).

Another good idea is to stock up on every profitable glyph since you probably wont be able to convert blackfallow ink into any other ink (due to a new ink being released) after the release.

Glyphs are a bad choice to stock up on. The glyph system is gonna be overhauled.

They're not gonna make a big overhaul to the glyph system and most of the glyphs will stay in the game. They will change the way you can get the Book Glyphs though and will probably remove some of them, but lets see what the press tour and beta brings us for info.

I wouldn't trade anything until you have to (aka the ink trade doesn't take BFI anymore) There will be a short time frame, just like in WotlK, that lower ink prices will rise because you can't trade them, so it takes actual farming of them to make them. That is, assuming of course, that they do the same thing.

It's tough to know how the overhaul is going to be done. I seriously doubt that they will completely do away with what is in place. I'm sure many of the current glyphs will be around in MoP. In which case, there is a tremendous market for all the Panda rerolls. Once we have an idea where Inscription is going and what will carry forward, it would be a good idea to either a) pre-craft glyphs for all the classes that Pandas can fill or b) stockpile inks.

Because @Cryan is right, ink trading will probably not use Blackfallow Ink and therefore not be very viable.

That's why you just trade for the inks ahead of time and don't craft glyphs. I mean sure maybe it won't be changed huge but I'm not gonna craft a bunch of glyphs that may just turn into vendor paper. I'll get loads of ink of the sea and ethereal ink and wait. Or craft mysterious fortune cards.

I agree, I wouldn't craft glyphs yet. I'd wait to see what comes out of Beta first. The most important times are when announcements hit and/or information is datamined, rather than the actual release date. With each 4.x patch, Pryium Ore did crazy stuff as people speculated epic gems, then would take a nose dive during each patch beta when people discovered they weren't in that patch.

One thing I just thought of, especially if you have an army of xmute alchemists that don't have work is to start doing the [Essence of Water] to [Essence of Air] transmute. The pattern is BoP but sold in unlimited quantity by an NPC near Scholomance, and requires 275 alchemy skill. For my server, essence of waters are generally 20% or so of the price of essence of air, and I imagine that the +15 and +25 agi enchants will be good for fresh monks looking to get twinked as best they can.

Is that essence of water to air on a cooldown?
