    Warlords of Draenor - Garrisons

Blizzard has released a few details of the new expansion, Warlords of Draenor. One of the newly announced features of the expansion will be the ability to create a "Garrison: your own personal fortress that you build, staff and manage."

The blog post dedicated to describing Garrisons had one section that describes Followers, who are "NPCs that you recruit to join your Garrison."

But there were a couple of lines about Garrisons that really caught my eye as they have the potential to drastically change how we may acquire resources in the new expansion:

"You can also allocate [Followers] to complete tasks - things like crafting or gathering resources, which they'll do whether you're online or offline." (emphasis added)

"Followers have a character level, an item level, and traits that affect missions and tasks. For example, if they have the Mining trait, you'll be able to assign them to a Mine in your Garrison to gather resources for you." (emphasis added)

WHOA!!! It's sounds like a Tiller's farm, but your little personal Garrison NPCs do all the work for you! Plus, with the various traits, who knows what they may be able to gather for you (Herbalism trait, Skinning trait, etc.).

So how do you get Followers? By recruiting them, upgrading the various buildings in your Garrison, or my personal favorite "coughing up the right sum of gold to hire mercenaries."

    Let the speculation begin!!!

I have a feeling I'll be hiring a *lot* of mercenaries.
Excited for player housing though, and having it integrated with gold-making is the icing on the cake.

I did a post about this on my blog, but my personal favorite speculation point is:

"You may instead decide to build a Smithy and recruit a Blacksmith to research new plans and craft valuable resources (such as those with daily cooldowns)."

Extra cooldowns and free research!? I'm in. Show me where to sign.

The question really will be how efficient will these mines be, and can I have 50 of them per server if I have a quintuple combined realm?

Also don't forget the free level 90 for everyone, aka new profession mule.

EDIT: Does this look familiar to anyone!?

I imagine that they will be similar in efficiency to the Tiller's farm, able to produce much more materials as you progress and improve your Garrison. I think they hit a decent balance with the Tiller's farm, valuable enough to make it worthwhile every day, but not so lucrative to make it overly profitable. But a big difference may be the Garrison will require less maintenance; it seems like it will be it's own little mini-game rather than the pluck, plow, plot of the farm which got incredibly tedious over time.

As you point out on your blog, a big question is whether or not it will be per character or per account. Based on the way they described it, it feels like it will be per character, but that's just a hunch.

One of our goals in Warlords of Draenor is to make each of the game’s existing Professions more engaging and integrated into the gameplay. To that end, the Garrison will play a major role in your character’s Professions in this expansion—similar to how your farm was key to the Cooking profession in Mists of Pandaria, only on a much more epic scale.

I wouldn't be sure those are extra daily cooldowns just yet.

@UtesDad , check the screenshot I added to my comment above from the promo video, looks like farms are still in there too.

@ShaddamV HE LIVES!! Also the above is a quote from Blizzard, so as of now it's in the plans.

Strange, because they have repeatedly said they were not going to do another "farm" with the next expansion.

Edit: Now that I think about it more, there likely will be a "farm" in the Garrison, but likely we will be tasking a Follower to harvest on it ... win/win

Might be something you can get NPCs to do rather than actually maintain it yourself. May just be the cooking version of a profession building. Who knows!

I can't figure out if this is good for gold-makers or a way to close the gold gap a little for everyone else.

Also, is it just me or does this seem like an anti-bot measure?

    I'm pretty excited. :-D

    WTB Draenor nao.

Recruit stalwart followers to man your base, and send them to loot dungeons, fulfill missions, and craft items, even if you’re offline. Tame a deadly realm, and build an unbreakable monument to victory.
