Farming Charms with Facetime & CKS

Ok, this setup was too good to NOT post about....I am literally laughing my ass off at the ingenuity of my teenager. He's 16...

    Setup:

    - Get a Rogue into HoL, poisoned up
    - Setup an iPhone facing your monitor
    - Take your iPhone/iPod somewhere else
    - Call each other via Facetime
    - Watch the screen
    - When the mobs come out, use your Wireless mouse, from the other side of the house, to spam Fan of Knives and farm charms.

He is literally in the kitchen, eating a sandwich, while farming charms via Facetime and his wireless mouse!

Related, the "CKS" tool could be used to simply farm the charms, assuming you had a built in heal. So, our next experiment will be...

    - Create a macro on our Rogue that:
    - Fan of Knives
    - Premeditation (2 CPs)
    - Recuperate
    - Evasion (just to be extra careful)

Tie in a key to this macro, and build it into the CKS.

    Am I missing something?

I farmed this manually on my rogue the other day and I think if I were to make a macro it would cycle:
    Hemo
    Recup
    FoK x2
    Cloak (to shed stacks)
    Vanish
    Premed
    Recup

    This should be pretty sustainable.

    Doesn't vanish have a 2 minute CD?

    Yes.

For HoL, that's mostly unnecessary - the debuff is only an armor reducer, and the mobs are dead before they hit you much. PLUS, AFAIK, you can't put multiple skills in one macro that use the GCD.

I think this qualifies as perhaps the most appropriate context for a Rube Goldberg Machine ever. Rube Goldberg machine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yes both Vanish and cloak have long enough cooldowns that they won't be used every time, those will just be used on CD for some extra mitigation and healing.

Namssob: I'm not the best with macros, but I believe you could do this as a /castsequence macro, with each skill requiring a separate press.

OMG! I love those! Yes, my son is funny that way. He was watching Stargate SG-1 on Netflix, in a different room, while playing WOW on his iPod.

    Two variations we tried, unsuccessfully....
    1) He TRIED enabling voice control via Windows 7. But the lag was too much, but he was using voice commands, THROUGH the iPhone, into his microphone, to spam fan of knives. The whole exercise was entertaining to me, although it provided no advantage (and in fact probably slowed things down).

    2) We attempted to reconfigure his wireless mouse USB plug to accept bluetooth commands from the iPhone. In other words, eliminating his mouse from the process completely. But we couldn't get it to work.

You're right, I didn't think about castsequence. I might try that one tonight!

While not quite as ingenious I decided to see how lazy I could be farming charms on my elemental shaman. I went to Throne to kill the Unstable Corruptions. I made the following macro:
    /target Unstable Corruption
    /cast Chain Lightning

I used CKS to spam that macro after walking a little way into the hall. With the CL glyph I was able to kill just about everything before it gets to me and lightning shield will take care of anything that spawns a little strange and manages to get to me. They never do enough damage to hurt me, I never run out of mana. I'm in the 700-800 charm/hour range.

To automate, I place my mouse on my leg and fidget a bit. Slight movement is enough to register on my Naga mouse. If you had a mouse that registered from across the house you wouldn't even need the iPhone to watch. Just keep wiggling. I'm not sure I can think of a better class/place to do this with.
