Unless the "hops" on Chain Lightning can make it from a mutation to a sentry he should be alright. I think the range of the hops is pretty short, however (no more than a couple yards).

I farmed my mount pretty much exactly like this. The best spot to stand in seems to be just to the right of the beginning of the water. I think I spend about 3 hours in two sessions, and the work was done by my MS X4 keyboard, macroing glyphed Chain Lightning on a 1.4 sec delay.
