Will Sha Crystals go up or down with 5.2?

I wasn't selling enchants during much of Cataclysm so I don't really know what happened with Maelstrom crystals after the patches--do they tend to go up or down in price since people will be disenchanting ilvl 476 gear as they upgrade it? I suppose my guess will be that during the first week or two they'll go up, but after a few weeks they'll be cheaper than they are right now. Anyone remember what Maelstoms did during Cataclysm after patches?

I'm expecting most other mats to go up in price and stay there for a while purely from demand for new gems and enchants, particularly since they're not adding any new 5-man dungeons that would cause extreme casuals to DE their dungeon blues into ethereal shards, although surely there will be some new supply of them from casual PvPers disenchanting Dreadful gear. But I'm not sure what will happen with Sha Crystals.

@EnigmaticClarity Over the long run, the Sha Crystals will likely drop in price more, but slowly.

As you mentioned, with the new Tier in 5.2, there will potentially be a small increase in Sha Crystal volume on the AH, due to players getting new gear and DE'ing their old gear.

However, there will also be a small increase in demand for Sha Crystals as well, because those players will need a new Bracer enchant and Weapon enchant.

Unfortunately, enchants using Sha Crystals are limited, only 5 available. This, to an extent, hurts the Sha Crystal market in terms of pricing and demand. If there were more enchants that used them, I would bet prices would be a bit higher yet and prices would decrease even more slowly. Who knows, maybe Blizzard will add a few more in later patches.

And yea, Patch 5.2 is a bit different than previous content patches, since there aren't any new dungeons. Gearing up for the new Tier, including LFR, wont be quite as easy as it was in previous expansions. Players will be somewhat forced into running Tier 14 content, to get some gear that will boost their average iLevel up to where they can get into the new LFR raids. I know alot of players probably wont be happy with that, but personally, I think that's great! For us gold goblins, that means crafted 476 and 496 gear could still be profitable to craft. Players will still gravitate towards buying some of that gear for their alts, to get that immediate boost to iLevel.

That is different in this expansion, but there are also two other differences with those five enchants--each is far more useful to a larger number of classes than past enchants in past expansions thereby increasing their appeal, and each pattern takes a LOT more crystals than past enchants have taken. Pretty much every single player wants those weapon and bracer enchants, and with the bracer enchants taking three crystals and the weapon enchants taking ten, the number of needed Sha crystals is pretty huge. I can't keep them in stock buying a few dozen per week from the AH and cranking them out via the daily transmute on two enchanters.

Yes, that is definitely true. I typically have the same trouble as you do, keeping enough in stock. When I see them cheap, I usually just buy them up, whether I need them right then or not. I'd rather have them in a day or so to continue cranking out enchant scrolls, rather than run out of stock and not be able to find any for decent enough prices to turn a good profit.

Another MoP difference is that they can be created. How much of the supply do people think is from the daily cool down versus d/e?

Say over the course - 4 months? - of 5.2 let's say the average LFR+ raider will consume 16 (10+3+3) aha crystals (LW will not need bracers.) The average enchanter will generate about a hundred crystals. Individual loot means LFR, PVP & scenarios only generates crystals for enchanters. 5-mans are run less in MoP: no new 5.2, no tabards although daily boost in 5.2, and IMO the drama/VP is so much better in scenarios.

My guess is high initial demand, but once the demand starts to drop towards the enchanter supply, there will be a sharper drop.
