    Inscription Profitability Spreadsheet

Having recently jumped BACK into inscription, I wanted to get a handle on my numbers and margins again, so I threw together a little spreadsheet.

Everything should be fairly straightforward - on the second tab you enter your numbers: selling prices, buying price for V.Life, Output % breakdown per ink, etc. The the first tab will show you how much both Inferno and Blackfallow Ink are worth to you and the breakdown for both lower-tier and upper-tier cataclysm herbs. The upper-tier herbs also show you the value when trading all of your blackfallow into inferno.

Let me know if you have any questions or notice and bad math (especially since it was thrown together pretty quickly)

    Hope this helps.

    Nice one! +Rep.

The only thing which is a bit hard to evaluate is the avg price of glyphs, since there are a lot of glyphs for low prices and then the "rare" glyphs for insanely high prices.

And since we're already on, i got one question for you: Do you split your glyph business between two chars or are you using only one char for it?

For me, i got one char where i post lower-profit glyphs twice a day (profit < 70g), but i only got ~300-500g from that char per day. Too much other ppl try to f*ck up that market.
And then i got another char, where i'm selling high-profit glyphs (everything > 70g) with a fallback-price of 400g (yeah... ppl ARE buying that, i couldn't believe it myself ^^). That char is on my second acount, and i'm online whenever i'm playing on my main account so i can repost as soon as i get undercut, getting an avg of 2.4k gold / day (numbers for the last 30 days).

I got myself two TSM categories - LowProfitGlyphs and HighProfitGlyphs, with TSM automailing each one to the specified character. But you know... glyph business is a bitch, some glyphs can jump from 30g up to 300g. Do you maybe know any way to make the two glyph-categories dynamic? Or is there no way to do so?
    Milestones: 10.02.2011: 100k / 09.06.2011: 500k / 21.07.2011: 750k / 10.08.2011: Goldcap! / 28.03.2012: GBank at goldcap - 2 million fluid!

My personal view is that only 4 numbers matter in the glyph market: Threshold, Fallback, Avg Listing Price of your glyphs, and Avg Selling Price of your glyphs. As you can probably imagine, there is potentially much deeper discussion hiding behind that comment, but essentially I would say that the most efficient approach would be to treat every single glyph you sell as 1 single item. Constantly changing your routine around adds unnecessary time to an already lengthy profession - that's a huge profit killer.

For what it's worth, the 50g that is listed in the SS is actually my threshold, so that's a worst case scenario for me. I like to try and err on the side of caution when making buying purchases, so in actuality my profit margins will end up higher than that, but investing in something that will offer a significant return, even if things don't work out as intended is obviously a great situation to be in.
