86 - 89 to get Hallowed this year?

Well, my wife started playing WoW and has made up her mind that she wants to get the Hallowed title. She's put in a crazy amount of time leveling her paladin (with me helping on my 90 DK (dps / tank) when I can), but we're coming down to the wire here. Currently, she's 86 and I believe heading to leave the Jade Forest and go to the Valley of the Four Winds (if she's not there already). Currently, what she has left to do is:

    • Hit 89
    • Actually do the headless horseman (duh)
    • Buy a Hallowed Helm with her tricky treats
    • Buy the rest of her masks
    • Throw a pumpkin on a gnome.

The biggest issue here is hitting 89 being that the Halloween event ends on Thursday at 3am (~40 hours from now). For the most part, I've been flying her around on my Stone Drake and just helping her kill stuff so she can get through quests faster. Any suggestion on how to speed this up? I know running through random dungeons is slower, but would it be worth it to run them once for the quests or just keep questing with out the dungeons?

Comments, suggestions and help in general would be greatly appreciated.

Quickest way would be not to be grouped together and have your wife just tag mobs and you kill them, that way there should be no reduction in xp for your wife.

I thought about that, but it seems like the mobs don't become tagged until they've taken a noticable amount of damage. I mean, it's not like she can run around and just judge them to tag them; so I'm not sure the time spent with her tagging them is worth it over just killing them *right now* and moving on. For example; she'll pick up a few quests such as gather ____ on the ground and kill 10 enemies. While she's gathering, I'm rounding up the mobs and killing them.

For example (just throwing out numbers here), if 10 mobs give 5k ea ungrouped and 2.5k grouped, yeah, she's getting 1/2 the experience... but I bet it's taking < 1/2 the time overall since she can do 2 quests at once, I continue to kill stuff when I'm standing around and she's flying around pandaria.

Looking forward to your (and anyone else's) response.

Go to the turtle spot or the spot on the wall in vale and just mindlessly kill mobs for hours lol. Turtles have alone gotten my pally tank half way through 87. You'll make a few bucks in the mean time.

Thought of that too, the chance for getting ganked is high and so is the chance that someone else is there which really takes down how much experience she'll get. When each quest is between 60-120k + mobs and each turtle gives ~2k, I think questing is faster.

I could be wrong about this, but maybe if you pay a tank or heals to insta-queue dungeon after dungeon, that would be faster? I quested all the way to 90 and the couple times toward the end that I did pop into a dungeon it really felt like I was getting XP faster.

I don't know, that's what I'm trying to figure out. Some members in my guild told me that dungeon crawling was too slow (though I think with the quests it could be fast enough), but I just queue as a tank with my wife in the group and it pops within 10s. Being that I'm 90 (though I'm not geared by any means) I can tank the instance just fine. I think if the group is good and plows through the dungeon, it could be worth it. If you have someone who's taking crack after every pull, you're gonna have a bad day.

What I guess I'm looking for is if anyone *knows* what the fastest method is (or has a good idea for my instance with good theory to back it up); rather than "I heard my best friends sisters brothers girlfriend cousin tell me that he heard in /2 that ____ was the fastest"

    Hmm.

Don't forget the bonfire buff. It last 2 hours and gives you 10% extra exp on mobs. This buff lasts 2 hours.

Visit candy buckets. I hear at 85 they give around 36k, I know at 89 they give about 107k xp. For me this seemed real slow for experience compared to questing, so do this just enough to get the masks and helm. I wasn't out of rested xp though. At 89 with fast flying I spent about 3 hours doing Eastern Kingdoms, Kalimdor, and Vashj'ir and leveled about 26% through the level. I think that was around 170 Tricky Treats.

I used TomTom and the Candy Buckets addons to track where they were. If you do, be sure to view the buckets on the map, it will select the closest one to target, but that can leave some outliers that you have to do a lot of back tracking to get. On the map you can right click a TomTom waypoint and set the arrow to point at it if you want to pick up buckets that will be harder to get later.

Make sure to set TomTom for the optimal Candy Bucket settings (on the Candy Bucket webpage).

Also, be careful of Vashj'ir, Candy buckets will direct you to fly there from Eastern Kingdoms to get buckets. I didn't try to fly through the fatigue zone.

If you're horde and are having problems getting a gnome, as a last resort you can create an additional free trial account and get a gnome that way. You probably shouldn't need to though.

On a side note, the guy who got world first 90 and then had his levels reset back to 87 by Blizzard was tagging Osul Mist-Shamans while his non grouped party helped with the kills. The mist shamans give Surrounding Mist when killed, a 30 second buff that stacks 5 times gives extra damage (125% at 5 stacks!) and heals you.

No one knows Blizzards reasoning behind the reset, so use these mobs at your own risk.

And don't forget the bonfire buff.

    Have fun!

Thanks for the tip. Since learning of the Halloween event, she's been trick-or-treating at all the inns she comes across (a handful while carting her around to do dungeons, etc). She's gotten everything on Kalimdor, EK and I think Northrend. I know she's gotten close to half in Cata and spending time now to fly across a continent to get the one place you've missed doesn't seem like it'll be productive (otherwise it probably would a good bet).

As I mentioned, doing the bonfire unfortunately relies on other people being intelligent to form a water-line (many people I've seen don't know you can throw water to another player instead of running back to the bucket) or putting out the fires correctly. We're really crossing our fingers that she gets a weighted pumpkin on the horseman fight. God help us if we have to put the fire out in Brill, though I hear outside Silvermoon is easier.

Being that we're on different accounts, I may just make a gnome and run out as far as I can to some secluded corner (to avoid getting jumped at the last second) and have her throw it on me rather than try for a BG (normally the easiest way to get the achieve IMO).

She starting playing this morning at 9:30 with 4 bars into 86, and at 2:30 she was 5 bars away from 87 (around 1/2 level in ~5 hours). If she can get close to 87 by the time I get home, I might be able to get her to (or close to) 88 tonight. Then it's one level and she'll have it. At the rate she's going, I definitely think it's doable

Ah, the bonfire buff I'm talking about is Unburdened, which is right outside the gates of Stormwind (I play a Alliance) or Grim Visage outside the Ruins of Lordaeron (Horde). So, no other people involved.

    Good Luck!
