Consortium Profession Leveling Guides: Enchanting 1-425

Have you ever looked upon the insurmountable task of dropping a profession and leveling another from scratch? I have considered dropping Jewelcrafting on my hunter to make room for Enchanting, but I could never find the courage to do so. Enchanting is pretty expensive to level, and profession grinds are boring to boot.

But what if the grind was profitable? Enchanting offers several lucrative scrolls all the way up to 450, so it's certainly feasible to level enchanting using only these selective crafts. There are two hurdles to overcome when doing this:
    • The stock requirements are huge and very expensive - about 20k.
    • Some of the recipes you will need are very rare.

Suffice to say, this can't be done overnight. Lately enchanting mats have taken a dive in price - so there is a small window of opportunity to get this done for cheap. You will need to prepare ahead of time and start looking for the stock and recipes required. I had been stockpiling all of this stuff for months already, so the mats were already sitting on my lap, including most of the rare recipes needed.

    Let's see how it's done:
    • 1-2: x 1
    • 2-90: [enchant]Enchant Bracer - Minor health[/enchant] x 88
    • 90-100: [enchant]enchant bracer - minor stamina[/enchant] x 10
    • 100-101: x 1
    • 101-110: x 9
      • There is an alternative to the 1-110 grind involving tailored & disenchanted items. You can find more information here.
    • 110-135: [enchant]enchant cloak - minor agility[/enchant] x 25 (vendors: [npc]kulwia[/npc] and [npc]dalria[/npc])
    • 135-155: [enchant]Enchant bracer - lesser stamina[/enchant] x 20 (vendors: [npc]kulwia[/npc] and [npc]dalria[/npc])
    • 155-156: x 1
    • 156-185: [enchant]enchant bracer - lesser strength[/item] x 40
    • 185-204: [enchant]enchant bracer - strength[/item] x 19
    • 204-205: x 1
    • 205-225: [enchant]enchant cloak - greater defense[/enchant] x 20
    • 225-265: [enchant]enchant cloak - lesser agility[/enchant] x 50
      • From here on, I put every enchant on a velum. You could do this from 1-225, but I find the recipes so cheap that it's not worth my time. Lesser agility is currently semi-worthless. Once heirloom cloaks come out, this one will be sought by twinks, as it is the only decent melee enchant that can be put on sub-30 gear.
    • 265-285: [enchant]enchant weapon - fiery weapon[/enchant] x 20
    • 285-299: [enchant]enchant weapon - icy chill[/enchant] x 14
    • 299-300: x 1 (sold by [npc]Lorelae Wintersong[/npc])
    • 300-301: x 1
    • 301-310: [enchant]enchant weapon - agility[/enchant] x 20
    • 301-340: [enchant]enchant weapon - spellpower[/enchant] x 20
    • 301-340: [enchant]enchant weapon - crusader[/enchant] x 20
    • 301-340: [enchant]enchant chest - greater stats[/enchant] x 20
    • 340-345: [enchant]enchant gloves - major strength[/enchant] x 5
    • 345-350: [enchant]enchant chest - major resilience[/enchant] x 5
    • 350-351: x 1 (sold by [npc]rungor[/npc] and [npc]Vodesiin[/npc])
    • 351-360: [enchant]enchant chest - major resilience[/enchant] x 9
    • 360-375: [enchant]enchant boots - cat's swiftness[/enchant] x 8
    • 360-375: [enchant]enchant boots - boar's speed[/enchant] x 7
    • 375-376: x 1
    • 376-390: [enchant]enchant weapon - mongoose[/enchant] x 22
    • 390-410: [enchant]enchant boots - icewalker[/enchant] x 30
    • 410-420: [enchant]enchant chest - exceptional resilience[/enchant] x 10
    • 420-424: [enchant]enchant cloak - major agility[/enchant] x 4
    • 424-425: x 1

*Remember: All figures in this article are heavily RNG dependent. I hold no liability for any over or underspending.

You will need to acquire the following recipes either through farming, or at the AH:

Of course, how could I leave you without a shopping list? These are the approximate mats you will need. They are reasonably accurate, but I did throw in some extras in case you run into some bad RNG. Worst case, you'll be crafting more scrolls and making more profit.

So what's the damage? Oh, about 18-20k. The good news is that the scrolls you're crafting are worth well over 40k, and will become even more valuable thanks to Cataclysm inflation.

Speaking of Cataclysm, it crossed my mind that the materials requirements might be much lighter with Cataclysm, given that some enchants will grants more than a single skillup per craft. A viable strategy would be to stockpile all of the materials, and complete the grind once Cataclysm hits.

I've been staring at numbers and enchants for several hours now, and to be honest I feel quite discombobulated (as Mike Tyson would say). I realize that I might have made a few mistakes in the process of writing this - so please do point out mistakes if needed.

Oh, one last thing. Sorry for the lack of content. I was busy this past week - let's just say I'm now engaged .

Engaged as in busy? Or engaged as in preparing to be married? If it's the former, I hope all is well, if it's the latter, then congratulations are in order.

Nice guide mate, how do you do the Toggle Mats option?

When you say make 25,000 gold with leveling enchanting, is that net profit or your actual income from it? For example you estimate a cost of 20,000gold, so therefore leading to a 5,000gold profit?

I think for most a 20,000gold investment isn't really worth the 5,000g profit to do simply for the sake of making a profit (especially when considering the time spent leveling it up) - but if it's something that you actually need to / want to do in terms of having a high level enchanter then it's definitely worth trying to make a profit from it.

I would recommend that anyone wanting to do this checks the prices of all the mats and all the scrolls of enchants before attempting this, for example I play on 2 servers, a high pop and a low or "new players" realm. I have a large stock of enchant scrolls on the low pop realm and I want to xfer my character from the low pop to the high pop realm, but the problem is many of the scroll enchants differ vastly in price.

I think I have 3-4 different stacks of scrolls that sell for 30-50g each (slowly, but do sell) on the low pop realm, yet they sell for 1-4g each on the high pop realm, so I'm now trying to sell as many as possible before transferring. Other option is just to keep them until halfway into Cataclysm, when everyone will be more focused on high level or very low level scrolls instead of tbc / wotlk scrolls.

In general with enchanting if you are patient in buying the mats (say you buy all your mats over a period of 1 week, being careful not to buy ridiculously high priced mats and then make sure that you turn every enchant into a scroll and sell it, you can pretty much level enchanting without much cost to yourself at all. I generally give out all the very low (1-150/200 level enchanting scrolls) to lowbies that I find running around anyways because the happiness of helping someone > 50g profit.

Still nice guide, and it probably could actually be looked into being done with almost all professions provided you choose which items to make wisely, spend some time getting rare-ish recipes/patterns/formulas/schematics/plans etc.

Considering he said the mats cost 20k and the scrolls are worth 40k i would assume it's 25k profit.

The most important thing to remember for many people reading this is that making a profit simply from leveling should be considered a long term investment generally as low level enchants tend to sell quite slowly. If your willing to sit on them and not panic you can easily make a profit from leveling enchanting in this way.
Saying that though the profits to be made at high level enchanting can pay the cost of the leveling mats in a week or two if you carry on using it as part of your business.

    I feel rather stupid now
Don't know what I was thinking when I wrote that post earlier this morning haha. I was just looking at the numbers he wrote in the third paragraph, even then not quite sure how my logic/math worked out there.

    [ enchant][ /enchant]

This should work with [ craft] but it's been buggy. Probably needs an update.

25k net profit. I used auctioneer prices, so I think my prices were reasonable. For me, the mats cost 18.7k, and the scrolls valued at 44.7k. It's server dependent, like you said.

Yes, the profit is just a bonus really. I need enchanting on my hunter because he can solo almost any old-world boss. This allows me to farm almost any enchanting recipe. I bet hunters will be the only class capable of farming Ulduar at 85 (some bosses, anyway). You're right about low-level scrolls, it's going to take me a while to sell them all, but I don't mind.

Congratulations Sterling! All the best to you and your new fiance

Oh and nice guide, thanks for your work... I'm currently leveling an ally enchanter that was mainly for intra faction and dungeon deing. I hadn't thought about doing this since I have a horde enchanter maxed with tons of rare enchants and usually x-fer mats to get my enchants done and x-fer them back. But you have me thinking...

I have a sizable number of cheaply obtained rareish formulas in my gbank and I think I will give my ally guy a few of them and try this idea out. With the snipers and logistics involved in xfering things, its nice to not have to do that with everything.
