So, lately we've been experiencing some issues with the application updates eating up enough of our "unlimited" server bandwidth / CPU / memory to cause actions to be taken by our hosting company to block the application downloads. We have implemented a lot of changes in the past few days to try and lessen the load on the servers and have been in constant contact with our hosting company to resolve these issues. One major change is that updates (at least for PC as of now) will only download the .exe file from the server and not all the .dll files.
Unfortunately, there are still people stuck on older versions which continue to put significant load on the servers. So, starting soon (a day or so) after r42 is released (likely within 24 hours of this post), any versions which are significantly out of date (older than r42 to start with) will cease to function until the user manually updates. This will also affect people who don't update to r42 before this change is implemented on our server.
To avoid interruption, do the following ASAP if you're using r39 and older! Update your app to r40 by downloading it from here and manually re-installing (overwriting your current TSM app files). Allow the app to run during the next ~48 hours or so to ensure it updates to r41 (should update immediately) and then to r42 immediately when it comes out in 12-24 hours or so.
If you don't, here's what will happen. The app will de-authenticate you and display the login screen you went through when you first installed the app. Your settings will NOT be wiped (so you won't need to setup the app again), but you won't be able to use the app until you manually update to the latest version (as described above) and then re-enter your email / app key into the login page of the app.
We all apologize in advance for this inconvenience, and I hope you believe me when I say we have only come to this course of action after exhausting ALL non-disruptive options. Ultimately, in order to keep the TSM application free (which I assure you it always will be) and run a server on nothing more than generous user donations, we must adapt to utilize our bandwidth and server resources as efficiently as possible with our ever-expanding user-base (over 11k registered users at the time of writing this). We predict these changes will reduce our bandwidth and server resource usage by 10x or more over the long-run.
Thanks!
