WTB Feedback before release: Deals Category

I added a new category on the site, called "Deals." It compares the current price of items on your realm to historical prices across all other realms in your faction/region to find stuff that people undervalued. The idea is that you could buy most of the items on that page, and simply repost them for a higher price, and probably find a buyer.

Obviously, without sales data, it's not going to be 100% accurate, and it may have some funny suggestions for rare junk items that nobody really wants but are priced high anyway. Use your judgement. If I were playing, I'd probably abuse the dropped rare/epic weapon/armor section and the recipe section.

I'm looking for some feedback on the page, if you find it useful, or if it should have another section or break down a section or something. To see it, go to any category page, and in the URL, change the category name to "deals". Example:

Area 52 Horde
Shadowsong Alliance

It takes a little longer to load than most other category pages, since it needs to choose which items to show you (most other category pages have static item lists).

Really interesting addition to the site, I can see myself using that feature a lot.

I personally am fine with the setup so far, presumably you Could add breakdowns for gear/tradegoos/misc/etc, but since I'm on a smaller server I don't find the list that hard to navigate.
But then again, I would still prefer 1 page to look through then having to navigate and reload every single deals-category.

Will this be in some way be able to connect to the Market notifications? for example sending out notes when items cross a certain price/mean % thresshold?

This is part of a grand plan I'm cooking up, where market notification subscribers can choose to receive "morning" and "afternoon" editions in their inbox, with syndicated editorials and their choice of sections of category pages... but I'm still thinking about the best way to do that, and if people would find that useful.

This deals category page, though, will stand on its own like other category pages.

Oh I would Indeed, and as everyone knows, 1 person on the internet equals 1million Irl.
No but serioussly, unless it takes up to much stress on the notification system I would find it very usefull. Always nice to get an update while cooking lunch and stroll over and make some free money!

I'm really glad you added this functionality to the site as I have often wished there was a way to look at a snapshot list of "deals" available. Right now I'm using the notifications on some of the specific items I'd like to pick up, which isn't the most efficient way to handle that kind of thing and doesn't cover the range of items I'd like to include.

One of the upsides to this "on demand" approach is that I can load the page at noon and get a different list from someone who checks at 5pm. There will probably be some folks who check obsessively, but in general there's room for multiple users to take advantage of the information.

Have you considered adding some filtering to this page so users can focus their efforts in a specific area? For example, most of my interest in deals is in the area of transmog gear. I scour the auctions looking for cheap items that have nice artwork and (hopefully) can be priced at a premium in a few weeks. As a result I generally don't look at items over level 70 since the more appealing and unique gear is from earlier content. Letting users plug in a few filters would give them more control over the output and possibly reduce load on your site since they would be looking through sub-sets of data.

You could also get even more in-depth with it by letting the user set a category (or categories) and thresholds on high/low/% discount and such to refine the deals page even more. Just throwing those out there in case this is a direction you're open to going =)

Thanks for the newest addition, I love it! ...but there's a little part of me that wants to keep it semi-private with the manual entry requirement.

Hope some of those items are still kicking around by the time I get home; should really get the RAH but then I'd wind up spending even more time at the office

This information is still useful. It might indicate that these vendor recipes were flipped at a high price in the past. But of course, that's not what you want to know :-)
