    Recent issues with notifications

    In the last few days, I've noticed that the notifications I receive by SMS/email do not match one-to-one with those through RSS. It seems that some of the SMS/email are not coming through.

    I have also been encountering an error when I tried to set up new market watches. The error says, "Error creating new notification: result". I first noticed this yesterday afternoon, but it had been quite a while since I manually tried to set up a new notification.

    All notifications are saved in the database, and you read from that database when you see the "inbox" at the top of the user controls page.

    When a new notification is saved, the system checks to see if you have a verified email address. If you have a valid email address, it sends that email message right away. The issue with email is that, even though I've put DKIM signatures on messages and set up proper SPF records, the volume of messages from one sender may cause some receiving email hosts to mark the messages as spam. The emails are sent through my own SMTP server (at the same VPS as the website/database), so it's not like I should get throttled on the sending side of things.

    RSS always reads from the database like the user controls page does, so it should be just as accurate. The issue with RSS is that good readers don't check feeds very often (since feeds are not meant to be real-time) so there's usually a delay.

    SMS/Twitter DMs have been getting throttled and are now shut down.

    I bet that was a bug from a change I made yesterday. Instead of seeing the word "result" you'll now actually see the error. And, knowing you, it'll probably be "Too many notifications for this user" if you've gone past the new limit of 300 notifications per user.

    I somehow completely missed the email address verification. I'm not sure how I managed to do that. Problem solved there.

    You don't know. :-P

    That was the problem. I am thinking there isn't much value in the neutral AH notifications so that should clear up plenty of space.

    Does this mean I can delete my twitter account now?
