    Have you ever begged?

Well have you? How much did you get?

When I first rolled a horde toon, I begged for gold. I knew that I could get started the hard way and kill mobs or trade in my clothes for a few copper and slowly build up to a gold piece or two. This didn't appeal to me so I swallowed my pride.

    I remember my pitch:

"I'm sorry to ask this but can anyone spare one or two gold so that i can buy a weapon please? I'm new."

Someone instantly gave me 2g and I thanked them profusely. I turned the money into a few thousand in less than a month and now I'm quite comfortable.

I wish I knew the name of the person who gave me the 2g. I'd send them a few hundred with a note of thanks.

I've never begged for gold in-game. However, I've used my "zomg I'm a gurl on the internetz" to get some free stuff like bags and Dead Mines runs for alts. But, I've always wondered how much you could make by standing in Stormwind asking people for gold. But then I remember all the times I opened a trade window with someone asking for gold and putting 100g there and then going afk without hitting the trade button. Ok, only the super annoying ones who won't leave you alone after you say "no" or ignore them. But I bet karma would eat me whole.

I'm a brutish 6' 5" unshaven male but I've experienced the same thing when playing a female toon. One guy even said I was beautiful and gave me several stacks of frostweave. I fluttered my eyelashes and giggled whilst turning it into frostweave bags. Other times I've been called 'hot' and 'fine'. It always makes me laugh as you can rest assured that I'm not hot and most certainly am not fine, although my wife says she quite likes me (she may be lying to keep our marriage going.)

I've never thought of trading with a beggar and then going AFK - that's really funny, a bit like when I offer my young son a chocolate and pop it in my mouth as he reaches out for it.

I might try that later when i've had a beer or two (its Friday night so I'm allowed.)

I used to sit and farm mobs to get enough to buy mining and a pick, then farm ore to get my first 20-30g, then start playing the ah.

I now use a different strategy when rerolling fresh. I go to the city at level 6ish and watch for people looking for guild sigs while I do my questing, training and vendor business in the city. If I don't see anything by the time I'm done, I head into trade and say

"New reroll looking for 10g starter loan. Will pay back triple within a week."

Every time I've had a taker within 5-10 minutes, and I write their character name down and always pay them triple as promised.

I know that I can pay this back by farming herbs and ores for an hour or so if I have to, but of course, though sometimes the ah ets you, so far I've always managed to et the auction house first. Usually I end up with 3-500g by the end of a few days of flipping and low-level de farming, at which point I can pay back the 30g without skipping a beat.

Too proud to beg and too dumb to steal. Guess I will make gold the legit (and often the slow) way.

Never asked for even 1 copper from a stranger. Topper McNabb in Stormwind drives me nuts and when I finish faction changing he's the first on my list of NPCs to kill. Shine This!

With the way the economy on most servers should be working, a low level character should be able to easily acquire 10-20 starter gold within a few minutes. Linen Cloth drops from most low level humanoids, kill them and collect a stack or 3. On my server a stack is going for 5-10g. Sell that, and I would say you'll be set for quite some time.

I can tell you exactly how much you can get - 20g or more in the matter of 5-10 minutes. Our guild had a scavenger hunt earlier this year using lvl 1 alts. We handed each team a set amount of gold, and then the items or activities they had to complete would deplete their gold down to the low single digits. The last task was - return the gold you started with! Multiple teams resorted to begging, and it was unbelievable how many people would give gold for naked dances, or just simple begging.

And to answer the OP - nope, I have never begged or asked for gold. I HAVE given gold to others who have asked for it, after drilling them with a few questions first. I love helping new folks get started in the game.

Some interesting responses. Is this a pride issue?

I begged because I didn't want to take the time to get a few gold in other ways. The begging took 30 seconds and the 2g was all I needed (1g would have sufficed!) I saw it as a viable time saving strategy. I went back the next day and my 2g was turned into 10g. The next day it was 30g and so on. Total playing time was probably about an hour and I had 100g from nothing. I just logged on each day, used the gold I had to buy mats I knew were cheap and flipped them. Easy-peasy no hassle.

At the time, linen was going for 1g a stack and to aquire a few stacks would have taken a while for me as a lvl1. I had no knowledge of the zone I was in as I had literally rolled an orc a few minutes before and ran to Orgrimmar. All I wanted to do was get on the AH ladder.

Begging is not exactly going to increase your profits per hour, but when you have 0 gold and want to make an instant start on the AH, it's surely the most efficient method. Just be humble and say please and thankyou!

I have a lvl 5 on an RP server I created when my server was down one time. With the name Townbeggar. Now maybe it's just people who "feel" guilty about not giving that homeless guy IRL something but just from a couple times on that toon he is up to 500g purely from begging.
Not all treasure is silver and gold but it can be sold for silver, gold, and a little copper.

I Has Stuffs and you can too

Wow - that's amazing! How many times have you received money do you think? What's the average amount people give? Whats the highest amount someone has given?
