    How would you "fix" Archaeology?

Spurred by Beru's blog post about it -- how would you go about "fixing" Archaeology?

It's incredibly mundane, too god damn RNG and "quickly" (quickly 'cause people just gave up? heh) became obsolete for everyone but avid pet/mount collectors, and I never thought I'd say it, but at this point, I prefer the glyph-making process (at least I can pay next to no attention to milling and AFK crafting of inks).

    So.

What would you do to make Archaeology more appealing?

I actually thought this was a cool idea - Breakfast Topic: Could transmogrification save archaeology?

    1) Each project would exist in one zone. You stay in the zone until it's done. Current project would be a daily quest for fragments with the dig site as questgiver. There would be diminishing odds that the quest site will give you another daily when you complete the first.

    2) There are good keystones and there are bad keystones. Good keystone means you can finish your project. A bad keystone means someone else has your missing piece and starts a quest to go get it.

    3) Pieces for high-level projects may be found in raids and instances. You could be running the same instance for awhile until the bosses cough up the pieces you need.

    4) BoA artifacts will be heirlooms, and will increase in stats as the user levels up (up until the max level of the BoA). Older tier sets and recolored sets can be assembled from fragments.

    5) Some dig sites contain world bosses, setting off an epic quest chain to lock it back up. While you're off on the quest, the monster is rampaging free in the zone and increasing your insurance premiums by the hour.

    6) Casino night at the University. Professor's only, please.

    7) Fossil theme instance, only Archaeologists can queue.

I laughed. That would be kind of neat though.

I like the idea of it working as a daily quest system, though I imagine the RNG would need to tone down even further if that ends up meaning a limited amount of projects solvable in one day.

As a secondary profession I think it's fine the way it is. I mean it's gotta be one of the more practiced ones now compared to fishing and first aide

Less flying . Perhaps either something such as @Z-Man described where you stay in a zone to complete an artifact, OR the reverse, you get to select which artifact/types of digsites you are going to be working on and THEN flying all over to complete them. Having both type AND location fall to RNG makes it extremely frustrating.

I think the reason it became obsolete to most is because no one need entry-level 359s anymore. I think if the BoA epics you get (ZinRokh, Tyrande's Doll, etc.) scaled to the current non-heroic normal raid content we'd see a lot more people still trying for a few pieces.

I quite enjoy archaeology, I just never find the time to do it with all my goblin activities .

    1) Uldum becomes its own "continent" for purposes of digsites.

    2) Add another "minimum" condition -- at least one legitimate digsite per available type. Meaning, after you clear out the last digsite you have for one of your racial types, and the game rolls a replacement digsite for you, if you do not have at least one site for each of the types available, the game rolls one extra site of the missing type, from the list of possible sites available to you (for your level and skill).

Or just add new items to each patch, to keep people doing archaeology instead of do it and never touch it again
