    Old-School Gamers

A pre-wow guilty pleasure of mine used to be classic SNES RPGs via emulator. I'm just wondering if anyone else would care to reminisce with me?

    Top 5

    1) Final Fantasy 3 (US - the one with the espers and the awesome Sword Techniques)
    2) Breath of Fire (I loved #2, but they were both great)
    3) Chrono Trigger
    4) Uncharted Waters 2 (a bit obscure, I think, but we'll see. Ironically enough, my favourite part about it was earning wealth)
    5) I can actually think of about 10 games to put in this slot, and it has been years since I've played any of them, so I'll wait to hear what everyone else thinks.

What was your vice, back in the day?

    #1 Chrono Trigger
    #2 Secret of Mana
    #3 FFVI
    #4 FFIV
    #5 Super Mario Kart (SNES)
#6 (Got Bumped here when I remembered SMK) Breath of Fire 2

Sadly, I don't consider WoW anywhere near my top list. It's an amusing timesink, but not the best game I've ever played.

If you want to count old school PC games too, Master of Orion 2 is hands down one of the best (while Master of Orion 3 was one of the worst trainwrecks in gaming history).

My favorite single player games were: Soul Blazer, Final Fantasy II and III, Super Mario World and Zelda: Link to the Past
I spent many many hours playing F-Zero and Super Mario Kart against everyone else in the neighborhood.

This is one of the ones hovering on my #5 spot. The graphics were really nice for its time. Really colourful, and the fight engine was a nice change.

I also don't know where WoW would hit the list. Top 10 would be doubtful, especially if I expand to other platforms and genres. Maybe top 20?

I still enjoy playing through SoM. If you poke around enough online, there's a person who went through and updated all of the dialogue (as theres some very rough translations in the retail version), and the story flows so much better. If you ever play through it again, definately try an find that version.

Ogre Battle is another one that if you get to play through, doo eet. It's INCREDIBLY hard to get a perfect ending, and I've tried a number of times. I always either screw something up or burn out (as it's very time consuming to keep your unit balance correct).

Yeah, I did play ogre battle for a bit. I think I used to have about 10-20 games on the go on a regular basis. I would download a bunch of them and then play them for about 5 mins and then try a new one. Then I would go back to them after if they were good. Looking back, it really isn't that much of a surprise why I didn't really do a lot of my homework...

Awesome, Kathro! I used to run a SNES - emulation website that focused specifically on rpgs. It was called No Bull Emulation (didn't have any ads or bs). I haven't touched it in a while, but I enjoyed, in no particular order:

    Chronotrigger (my 1st rpg)
    Final Fantasy 3
    Earthbound

and uhm... wow, can't seem to think of much else right now....
Some will; Some won't - So what? Let em die poor.

+Rep doesn't buy me beer, but it sure gives me a reason to have one - if you learned something new or thought about something differently, let's celebrate!

Wow, am I the only WoW Geek who played the VERY FIRST MMO's?

    0) Atari 2600, Decathlon "Gold Patch" winner. Oh yeah!
    1) MUDs/TinyMUD/MOO's. I actually have created objects on the now infamous Islandia TinyMUD. I spent MANY overnight "study" sessions in college creating my own Azeroth with nothing but text...
    2) Moria (on VAX/VMS, later Ultrix) 2D MMORPG based on the Tolkien books.
    3) Angband (single user PC version of Moria, in color, still 2d). yeah, I was addicted. I actually still have this zipped on my computer somewhere.
    4) SOCOM for PS2 (took a break from RPG's and switched to FPS)
    5) UT99 for PC (Unreal Tournament GOTY 99), member of a top-10 World ranked clan.

When my UT99 clan broke up (our game was 4 versions old, so we decided to move on), that's when I started WoW. And I haven't seriously played another game since.

I had some other experiences as well but it seemed we were limiting to SNES. I could also the TI-99/4A, a couple different MUDs, NES, N64, PS2 and a wealth of PC games.

Played the old SNES to death, but I wasn't a big RPG fan back then. My favourites were:
    - Mortal Kombat 2
    - Mario Kart
    - the Donkey Kongs

Also, to add a few old computer games I loved:
    - C&C
    - Red Alert (downloaded it for free on westwood's website, but still can't get it to work for 7 )
    - Heroes of Might and Magic III: Epic. Game.
