Guild Sites & Forums - Recommendations?

Hi Everybody. My guild has been on me for awhile to setup a website and some forums. I don't mind spending a little cash, but I don't want to have to spend a lot of time on it (i.e. yes, I could code it all myself, but I'd rather not). It'd be great if it could integrate a roster and guild stats / progression. Forums are something I'm not real picky about - just something I'm looking for.

I thought some of you might have some pointers or recommendations - if so, would you mind sharing?
Retired - I blame Kathroman for everything.

    (that's a joke, eh)

Coding it yourself would be insane... take a few minutes to consider everything that's involved, it's a BIG job. Two options I'd recommend:

    1 - vBulletin (paid)
    2 - phpBB (free)

vBulletin is by far the most powerful forum tool around. It is heavily customizable and you can install a roster module that should cover all your needs and more. As far as progression,

phpBB is free, but not as powerful as VB. Not sure if there's a roster module around.

There are also a plethora of sites built specifically for wow guilds. I'd look into those as well.

If your just looking for something that does the job you can look at guild portal, http://www.guildportal.com/ it's a site that provides premade guild websites.
You can simply have a site for free, but you get some restrictions and adds obviously or pay a small subscription and remove the restrictions and adds.
It's quite highly customizable, even using the free version, and the support is generally quite good as well.

Thanks, fluffy - have you used guild portal, yourself?

wowstead.com caught my eye, too - anybody heard of it?

My first guild used the site and had a very nice guild website which promted me to use it when i made a guild with some friends. This was a couple of years ago i last used it so it has likely changed at least some since then but i found it very easy to use (taking into account i'm a total noob at such things) and any issues i had were resovled easily by contacting the admin team who were very helpful.

Stede, my guild uses guildlaunch.com. Its a one time account membership to guildlaunch for your guildmates. If they do guild hop and their next guild also uses guildlaunch services, then their account moves with them.

I've always used Guildlaunch.com for my guild websites when ever I lead guilds. Here one of my old guild website: http://acquiredtaste.guildlaunch.com

I find wowstead pretty good. It's what I used for my own guildsite: http://eternalis.wowstead.com/ (shameless plug, I know). It's awesomely configurable, and very, very easy to configure. As for the actual forums, rather than use wowstead's, I used wowwars.net (you can see what I did here: http://eternalis.wowwars.net/).

Both are free with paying premium options.
