Please consider hosting or mirroring elsewhere

I know I'm going to take heat for this. I'm not going to respond to that heat.

Please consider hosting or mirroring TSM downloads somewhere other than Curse, like wowinterface, maybe?

My reasons for this request are twofold:

First, the email address that I registered on Curse (and only on Curse) consistently receives WoW-related password phishing attempts.

Second, when I visit the Curse site, my protection system frequently blocks suspect content. This is most frequently ads which Curse may not directly control, but it's still content associated with the site.

I know others will say they've "never had problems" and blame me for the email address I registered just with curse somehow getting out somewhere else. I know what I'm doing, and that didn't happen. I like TSM enough that I go to Curse from a separate, isolated, highly protected computer to download it but that's a PITA.

And yes, I got a suspect content warning this morning.

Just because you registered on a website and are now receiving phishing emails, doesn't mean they have a security issue or sold your email address. Some spyware will catch your email address regardless of where you enter it.

I would recommend getting the Curse Client to download addons from your desktop, you then don't need to visit their website.

I've been using the curse client for awhile now, and have never had any issues. I even use my regular personal email address, which is the same as my wow one, and still...nothing.

My vote would be for the desktop client. I don't really know, but I would suspect that it would be a pain for the dev team to keep things updated across multiple sites, no?

You don't need to register with curse to download addons from curse. If you are concerned about the ads on curse, you can download everything through curseforge as well which has no ads: http://www.curseforge.com/search/?se...adeskillmaster

Curse creates all the zip files automatically from the svn code repository. So, if you are worried about something bad somehow finding its way into the zip file (which is essentially impossible and even if it did happen wow wouldn't run any exe or batch script files), I would have to download the zip from curse to upload it somewhere else so anything that would potentially be uploaded to a different site would be the exact same zip as the one on curse anyways. And btw wowinterface is a lot more lenient on putting batch scripts / exe's into addon files than curse is.

As far as your email, I can offer this. The email that I use for curse is posted publicly in many places on curse and on the TSM website (sapu94@gmail.com) and I have never received any wow related scam emails (just people from Africa letting me know I'm now a mega-millionaire).

See? Those are the responses I was expecting... I did something wrong, blah blah blah.

Nothing posted to the point of my scanners frequently finding issues when I'm browsing the Curse site.

And download their executable? Is Hells No an acceptable answer?

I can manage safely enough the way I'm doing it. My point was that I would consider it much safer... and the world might consider it more convenient... to cross-post the ZIPs on another site like wowinterface. Can we focus on that thought / option?

TSM gets too many updates (sometimes twice a day really) for the developers to manually upload it to different sites all the time. It gets uploaded to Curse almost automatically for them.

I can't change my answer so that you feel better. I told you the truth, just because you don't want to hear a certain answer to your question, doesn't mean there is another answer out there.

Like Sapu said, Curseforge doesn't have any ads on it. You won't get viruses from downloading the addon itself because it's straight from the dev's PC. The CurseClient is perfectly safe at the moment too.

Do your scanners find issues with the non-existent ads on curseforge too?

Also what "Scanners" are you using that detect these issues? Could you maybe screenshot the alert that it makes or give us more information about it?

You know I run almost all the time with anti-viruses? And before yesterday I had no virus problems in over 2 years since I've been running 'naked'? (I still don't know if it was a virus causing my problems yesterday)

Curse is perfectly safe, I think you need to take a deep breath in and relax about this all. Don't you think going through a special computer to download one addon is a bit extreme?

I'm not discussing my concerns about Curse any further, though I find it entertaining that the response to my "I have concerns about this web site..." was, "You should download and install an executable from that web site, it will be much safer." Yah, and I'll just hand over my pre-teen sons to a Catholic priest while I'm at it.

Anway, if the devs aren't willing to mirror, that's fine. I'll keep doing what I'm doing. Might try the curseforge URL if it's ad-free and doesn't require a login.
