TSM Guide: Importing and Exporting Auctioning Groups

In r245 of Auctioning, I added the ability to import and export group data to / from auctioning. Using this feature, somebody could post one of their groups on a blog or forum for others to importing into their TradeSkillMaster_Auctioning addon. So, here goes a quick guide on how to use this feature.

    Exporting Groups

Simply go to the "Management" tab of one of your groups (not categories) as shown in the screen shot above and click on the "Export Group Data" button. The window shown in the below window should then appear in the center of your screen.

Note: Obviously, the text inside the editbox will depend on the specific settings of / items in your particular group. The above screen shot is showing the data for my glyphs group which has about 320 items in it. The characters representing the items in the group take up a large portion of the string of characters (3 characters per item - sometimes more). So, for groups with less items the data string will be significantly shorter.

So now you want to select all the text inside the box and simply copy paste it to wherever you want to. For example:
    <vrB>LK_KoTKWoJ=bKmUK6MKCKL5QKlhKoYKlbKoWKecKJEKIt KlGLLKKXYKmoLLJKXXKegKXbKfWKbyKXpKlkKWsKcAKfUJ=DKb 1K97Kb2KfVKfRK94J=QKb=Kl5KWxKCSKCJJ=SKeXJ=aKqYJ=TK ebLLTKCTQVmKWdKl8LLlKb6Kl6KlfKmnLLHKJAKoNKCRKcBPgz KmYKfTPvtKI8KJBLI3KfNKmIKl_KrNKWrLLRKlnKlHKlxLI5Kl rJ=GKCWKmAKohLLUKXaLLsKk0KfXKlKKlQQy5KsxKJDKeSKoeQ eaLIhKocJ=FLKnLLPKehKWwKqaKmaKoRLKwKCHKCUKb3KXWKmj K96KlDKXcKWiKofKmWKCMKmmKlsJ=RKefKWnKXfKfcKoXKWuKl zKWqKbvKfeKWvKbxKb4QecKlWKCPKeeKbzKoQKoaKWgKWlKfYK _bLKpKXVLKjLKsKoVKJGKJQJ=NPe8KoPLLuKmdJ=cLLZKXmJ=M KluJ=KKmFKmCKmDKtdQeeKWeKoOLKyKI2KI5QefKXZKfPKmHKc CKlcLIiJ=ZKeUKlqKI0KlyKXkKl9KfSKb9KXgKmXKfQLKxKmBL LCKIuLIkLLXKWhKWfKCLKlEKeiKedKeRKb8J=EKlOKeaKeYLLQ J=UJ=BKJFK_AKoiKqZKbwKeWKfKMN9KloKfLKlgKllKmZKI9Kl =KlmLLGKJLKWmKlpMOdKCGKfbKfMLLMKmeKmELLIKlLKXhKelQ edLLALLBJ=YKeTLI2KI7KmhKqXKCVKl1LLhKI3KmfKWjLIjKl0 LKkLLgJ=XKXnKobKodKWcKlPKI=KtbKCNLKrKXdLKmQebKCQKX oKXiKtcKejKeVKlMLLSKXjLKuKI_KXeKfOJ=AKlXKWpLK5KeZK mGKCELLELLWLLLKltKb5LLiLLVKmgKlwKI6KCIKfdKsyKCOKmV LLnKWkKmbKszKfZKJCJ=HLK9KfaKmkKog<drw><pi0><rpHUw> <soPo><thBJPg><rtn><mdA><nc0><bpB><pcE><ptC><paB>< ucB><fbLcbA><fcK><en>

    Importing Groups

Simply follow the steps shown in the above screen shot and click on the "Import Auctioning Group" button. You will then see a window popup in the middle of your screen that looks like the one in the screen shot below.

Now, let me go through each part of this screen in a bit of detail.
    • Group name - This is what Auctioning will name the group you are importing. If you leave this blank, the group will be called "imported group#" where # is replaced by a number. If you enter a name which is already used in Auctioning, it will add a number to the end of that name.
    • Don't Import Already Grouped Items - If you leave this checked, any items that might be in the data you are importing that is already in one of your groups won't be imported. For example, if you had a glyphs group already and tried to import my glyphs group, only glyphs that weren't already in your glyphs group would be added to the imported group if this checkbox is checked. If you uncheck this, items will be removed from their existing groups and put into the imported group if necessary.
    • Group Data - This is where you paste in the data. make sure to click on the "Accept" button after pasting it in otherwise the "Import Auctioning Group" button will be disabled. See the notes below.
    • Import Auctioning Group - Simply click this button and it'll import the group! A chat message will be printed out as feedback and the window will be closed.

    General Notes
There are a few limitations of importing / exporting as well as a few things to note.
    • Thresholds / Fallbacks will be exported as a fixed gold amount. If you have yours set to a % of something (crafting cost / auctionDB market value / etc), the gold amount that your percentage evaluates to at the time of the export will be then imported as a fixed gold amount. For example, if you have your threshold set to 100% of crafting cost and when you export the data the crafting cost is 200g, anybody who imputs that data will have a fixed threshold of 200g.
    • The data will always start with "<vr#>" where # is replaced by some character. The data will always end with "<en>".
    • When data is exported, it will automatically capture all settings for that group even if you don't override them at the group level. When somebody imports that data, all their settings will be overridden to ensure their group functions the exact same way as it does for the person who exported it.

Enjoy and feel free to ask any questions!

Thank you very much for the ability to copy auctioning groups. I use two seperate accounts so now instead of creating an auctioning group twice I can just create it once and then copy it. Thank Sapu, you and your team have once again shaved time off my daily AH schedule.

Thanks for this feature and great addon. Is there anyway to move over more than one group at a time? For instance could I move over my category: twink enchants with all the different groups associated with it all at once?

No you can't export categories ore more than one group at a time. Mostly because wow isn't very good at handling large copy / pastes.

Is this the preferred way to move profiles from one machine to another? Is it possible to just copy the config files (.lua?)? I would like to have an exact copy of my setup on a 2nd machine.
