What's Gold Cap to you? Is it important?

Just wondering here, is everyone grinding for a million? Or because they want more? What's gold cap to you?

I went into this on my anti blog today and I'm curious what people's thoughts are.

Are you a person that sees 999,999g as the cap? Or as the old cap? Or just a metric?

Personally, I'm more into that number x 11. Since I go to 11.

    Thoughts?

After I hit 999,999 I stopped caring about numbers so much. I just like to see a lot of gold in my mailbox and be able to buy some expensive items every now and then.

I hit "gold cap" in the last six months of Cataclysm. I'm very much a goal oritented player. I need something to keep me going. Before it was one million. Then two. Then certain achievements. Now I'm working for 10 million. No reason for that, it's just a number that keeps me looking ahead.

The big thing that changed for me over time was the mindset. At first it was a "business". I had that goal in mind, and I was my own little crafting factory. Now I view it as a pasttime. I enjoy making gold. Not so much for it's own sake, for hitting that magic number, but because I enjoy the AH. I get such a thrill out of flipping a 50g item for 1000g. I absolutely love crafting.

My previous game was Dark Age of Camelot. In game currency (it was Platinum there) had little use but I still built it up through crafting because I liked it.

focusing on your first 999,999g is good, but aiming further is better, i'm just seeing it as a way to measure how much i have and compare it to others lol.

I'm not too fussed about the gold anymore, i got pretty much everything i want with mine (Magic rooster, spectral tiger).
<J311yf1sh> im gonna stare really hard at it and hope it works

I hit cap a month or so before MoP hit. It was a goal in a series of goals. I've decided that's my zero. I always want to have that lying around liquid. I'm up to around 2.4 million liquid and no idea what I have tied up in mats and other items. I'm a bit more frivolous with my BMAH spending now. The goal is to make more because I like seeing numbers go up even if it's only fake money but at this point it's not anything I work for. My system is in place and even with the server dying it still works.

I don't get to play the game as much, but I can dick around while I'm at work and post auctions. At this point I almost consider the economy/AH both my PvE and PvP. It's the one aspect of the game that the Devs can't really nerf, they can just make it more interesting to navigate.

Read the post and it's quite good. I can see the reasoning behind your new definition of "capped." I doubt i'll ever hit it, I figure I'll lose interest in WoW before I have a chance.

I must have reached the old cap some time during cata - I can't even remember when exactly. After that I set my new goal at 2 million, just to double it. When I reached 2 million I just kept going. It's become part of my daily routine to restock, craft and post so much that I feel decidedly unhappy if I have to skip my AH business for a day due to time concerns.

I enjoy seeing one of my posters get closer to cap day by day, before I finally mail 500k to an alt or store it in a guild bank and get back to inching closer towards the cap all again.

As for goals, the 11 million limit seemed like a good one, but once you figure in a second and third account as well as multiple guild banks, 11 million is no longer all that meaningful. I don't have the ambition to reach for 22, 33 or 44 million, so I am content to see my net wealth slowly but steadily rise.

Sometimes I dump a few 100k on the black market to boost my main raiding character. Those are the good days...

For whatever reason, I have never been motivated by the gold "cap" per se. I have often been motivated by specific goals, though: Buying an epic mount for a friend for Christmas was my first big goal, and my personal goal back then was to have no less than 5K gold available on my character at all times. I chuckle at that now, but it was a big deal then.

I think it's only natural that hitting that first million was most definitely a goal, but it was more about the number than thinking about the gold cap. Nowadays I have other goals, none of which are focused on a specific amount of gold. I'm more interested in expanding my AH reach across certain markets, increasing my gold on the opposite faction, and devising ways to provide substantial ongoing support for my raiding guild.

I do enjoy hitting the numbers milestones, though. I guess they're just goalposts along the journey's path that give me little reasons to celebrate along the way.

Getting my first million liquid was felt really great as I set myself a deadline (the release of MoP) and I achieved that a few months before that.
My second million was also kind of nice. Iíve been slacking since the release of MoP but set myself another deadline: hit 2 mil liquid before the end of the year. I did with a few weeks left but I didnít feel the sense of accomplishment I had after hitting my first cap.
I havenít set any new goals and I donít really care any more how much gold I have. Going a little off-topic here but this has definitely made the game more fun for me in two different ways:

    1. I throw gold away much easier on fun stuff and gear from the (BM)AH. Some nice epics for my two level 90ís as I cba with LFR most weeks, overpowered blues for my sub-90 chars to make leveling easier and finally got my hands on a for 350k <- not a single regret.
    2. Iíve always been a bit scared of spending too much gold as (long term) investments. Iíve missed out a lot of potential profit because of this; e.g. not enough gems when 4.3 hit, thinking I had enough mats stocked up for MoP and most recently not buying out cheap darkmoon cards or paying other scribes for their cooldowns.

Now, I just buy out everything that will give me a profit at some point. My goldstack rises slower this way, but in the long run Iíll have more to spend on #1.

I feel your pain. If we had an armchair internet psychologist around they would tell us we were either addicted or too passionate about it.

I'm glad to see several people here feel the same way I do about that all important phrase "hit the gold cap" because in reality, if you're in it to win it, it would seem that the "cap" is not the goal, but to pile things up as high as you can and keep on going. 1 million is a milestone in the marathon, not the end-game. Sort of like hitting 1800/2k/2400 in arena, you keep going and getting better at it.

I agree with the, it's become a habit or daily routine to re-stock and re-post. I feel the same way.

Hitting 1mil is just like hitting 90 with your toon. It's the end of one short journey and the start of a much longer one.
