I use this tip for advertising:

"SEX. {Item} cheap now only 200g @the AH!!!!!"

Well you did read it right? Turns out sex sells and even the word typed in all caps in a CHAT window sells lol.

Also on the topic of the original post. If you are advanced then you should know the "whisper" price or lowest price for BOTH factions on your materials. If you just don't care then you might be getting ripped off. If Horde ore is USUALLY 30g per stack and Ally ore is always 50g per stack, then 40 or 45g is a bad deal on Horde OR Alliance. My main gems/enchants/shuffle rings are all posted on alliance side and shuffled there. Do you know how many times I bought ore on alliance side? Once this expansion. Meanwhile I've probably spend hundreds of thousands on the Horde AH buying materials to send back to my main faction.

The problem with just accepting the decent deal is that your competition can play with the "real" price of materials which will put you at a disadvantage when the market tanks. I can't afford to lose gold on my low demand faction so I have very strict buying habits. If its off of my target by just 1-2 gold I won't buy it. I risk not being listed on all items ALL the time but I'm personally OK with that.

Here's my other tip for negotiating: mention the 5% AH cut and put that into your negotiation. Here's something I might type:

"If you put these at 60g on the AH and I buy them...you will only make 57g because of the 5% AH cut."
"I only want a slight discount under that 57g so let's do 54g per stack instead...I can buy all and you get the gauranteed sale."

Done and done. Also if you can't tell you can use this to whisper a certain AH seller or to whisper someone who advertises in trade chat.

Thanks for this guide; I used some of the tips in negotiation last night (including the offering an odd number so it sounded like "all my gold") and got good results. Will offer more feedback after I do it some more!

Guy even gave me a discount from my offer because he didn't want to take me for "every penny I had" ...

I just offer 60% market price and get a counter and end at 70%, only recently did I try this, and I don't like relisting, so I have to evaluate.

I can take a 200g profit on a 4k deal as long as my GPH is not hurt.

This is awesome. is it TOS compliant?

Well I've been in trade chat for some years so maybe it is time to comment come of these suggestions from my point of view. However, trade chatting is not the main way for me to acquire gold so take this with a grain of salt.

This can be true but more over the years this has become the case with a decreasing percentage of items.
It is WoW's equivalent to @IRL "Save xx%" or "SALE", having become so overused that it hardly matters. The more capsrage there is in the item-advertisments with "!!CHEAP!!!!!1111!!one1!!" the less the chance for it to be actually cheap.

You said this was the reason you made the topic in the first place but I have quiet the opposite experience. Often times their price is hidden because it is so bad that people feel ashamed to admit it openly in trade chat. A common observation are propel who post items or services in trade chat at a bad price (for the other side) for a long time and at some point they stop posting the price because it got them nowhere.

This can be handy (except in rare cases like me when I act as a "tell" to trick people into thinking they made a good deal) but the real Art is to turn someone into a *tell*.
You can sometimes plant the seed of thought inside the seller's head, saying something along the lines of "Greetings, friend. You have been advertising that item for such a long time now and still haven't sold. If you were farming gold in the meantime you would have made much more gold. My offer may not be what you have been looking for, but you still make more profit from selling your item now than if you keep it. "

Advanced tactics can be harassing your target with dismissive, snobby remarks about his proposed deal from time to time on various Alts to make them feel uncomfortable and (sub)consciously wishing to end this ordeal rather soon.

OT: Sorry if it was answered already, maybe I missed it: What are suitable methods to have your opponent say a number first in the "Price?" - "Offer?" debate?

    I can confirm this works.

Only I like to go one better. When I'm REALLY desperate to sell something fast (usually because I need fast cash to snap up a bargain) I'll use:
"FREE SEX!!!!! Now that I have your attention WTS <item><price>"

Combine two of humanity's favorite words back to back and the effect is like dangling candy in front of a 9 year old.
