As I mentioned in my intro post I mainly been selling pets (including all the engineering ones), enchanting rods, shield spikes and cross-faction cooking recipes, all with very sellers when I started. Since then I got into the glyph markets, making some but mostly snatching up predicted popular ones pre-4.0.1 and cheap ones post patch. I have been stocking eggs, meat and deeprock salt but obviously that hasnt paid off yet. My snatch list has grown alot and I have picked up some really good deals but I havent been flipping much on A-Ysondre, hopefully someday that will pay off as well. In general I think I am just more confident in spending money to make more money, more aware of my cost, willing to buyout certain items (gold pearls for example) to reset the market. I guess my biggest key to my success is just market awareness. I started out using TUJ but found its updates too slow and not covering all the markets I wanted (H-Ysondre for example) so I wrote my set of tools that do the same thing. Dont read that the wrong way, TUJ is GREAT but in order to do want I wanted I had to write my own. Now I have queries run when I want and my own set of alerts/item watch lists. When combined with remote auction house I am usually in a good position to grab a deal or undercut someone.

Now you have to protect that money against the upcoming inflation or all of your hard work will be diminished. I suggest spending between 20k and 50k of it on levelling mats for enchanting and lots of ore. Personally I'd go for infinite/arcane/vision dust and saronite/cobalt ore. Why not fill a few guild bank tabs? Of course, it's not a cast-iron certainty that these items will gain in value, but it's highly likely. You may need to hold onto your stockpile for a while though, so first consider whether you can afford to invest the money without damaging your profitability in other areas.

It's finally my turn to do a bit of flaunting

Today I just pushed past the old gold cap of 214 thousand gold which is a new milestone for me.

I've always been fairly good at making gold and generally ahead of the average normal wow player when it comes to knowledge about entrepreneurship and making gold, however I've always spent it all very quickly on one of my favorite old past times, level 70 twinking. I would burn about 30-40 thousand gold on each level 70 twink over several months (enchanting and gemming like 4 different gear sets with BiS, power leveling professions and what not).

I've been playing wow since beginning of Vanilla, but I started playing wow at the beginning of vanilla at the age of 12 or 13, I was a huge noob then.
I will never ever forget my first day of wow, my friend came to my house and introduced me to it, he set me up on a small South African private server since wow was not sold nor supported in South Africa at the time. He had to go home shortly after it was installed and he had only just had time to log me in, show me how to kill stuff, how to hand a quest in and how to ress (by running to corpse and using the spirit healer). Now he went home and I died pretty much within 2 minutes of playing (still on level 1) and all I could remember was this big fancy spirit healer, so I immediately "ressed" there and kept trying to kill stuff. Now back in vanilla wow, you could still get ressurection sickness at level 1, so I ended up dieing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over....again. Eventually I figured wow, I've been fighting and dieing a lot, I must be fairly high level by now with all this combat.
Took me another 20 minutes of fighting and dieing and looking before I figured out how to see what my level was at my character screen. LEVEL 1! I promptly got fed up and turned off my PC and went to be in a very bad mood haha. 2 hours of my life gone for nothing. Anyways friend came back over the next day to show me how to ress properly and I enjoyed it ever since. Got a friend in the US to buy wow for me and send me the CD key and then started my journey on official.

Aaaanyways wow I went off topic there! As I was saying, prebc I was very young and mainly focused on raiding (actually managed to clear BWL and a bit of AQ40 with my guild) but never had much gold. TBC was awesome, I AOE farmed for hours on end on my frost mage and made about 20k gold, then spent it on epic flying for all my characters. Headed into WOTLK with only about 5k gold.

The most gold I ever owned in WOTLK until recently was 50k thousand gold which I blew all on my level 70 twinks and gear for my level 80 character to keep up with my guild as I spent more time on my 70s than my 80s.

I went overseas for a couple of months and quit wow, came back beginning of October with only just just under 1.2k gold across all my characters, I decided I had enough with twinking, and had enough of WOTLK with its crappy raids and wrath-babies so decided to focus properly for the first time on gold making and achievement hunting.

Anyways 2 months down the line with some very inconsistent wow playing and I'm now on about 230k liquid gold and 336453g net value.

I owe a lot to the people on this community for all the inspiration and a place to come and discuss ideas and get motivation from like minded individuals

I would also like to add that I chose not to stockpile anything at all for Cataclysm other than stuff in my bags that I couldn't manage to sell before the expansion came out. I half wanted to give myself a challenge and I half kept getting distracted when trying to decide what to stockpile.

Grats Sin. After myself capping and spending, capping and spending, here's a saying to always remember:

If you give a fool a million dollars, they will spend it foolishly and spend the rest of their days wanting. If you take away a million dollars from a person with knowledge, they will earn it back very quickly.

While it goes in line with teach a man to fish, it's something I always remember. I am not unlike you, I love to blow money on twinks and I especially like buying really nice things for my main. I'll probably never hit a million gold anytime soon but I don't care, because it's more important to me to enjoy the wealth than it is to merely have it, and I can always make it back quickly. Since you've been playing for a long time and you're a young fellow, hopefully this experience has also taught you something you will be able to apply in real life.

Yeah thanks Zero, I honestly don't see myself spending this gold too soon or too quickly.

When I play wow I to through phases where I basically try everything at least once and give it my absolute best, so far making gold has been one of my best experiences and I'm more than happy to continue doing so for the rest of my wow career. I like the security and reassurance that comes with having so much gold, knowing that if need be I can buy pretty much anything. I'm also very careful with gold though just like in real life. If I want to power level a new profession? I will most likely end up farming at least half the mats myself, that kind of thing.

And I'm not thaaat young eh :P Going on 20 now and damn I feel old already, amazing how much you miss the school days when you finally get exposed to what the real world is like

Time for me to take a bit of time to relax in wow, level up a second or fifth character to level 85, want to level my archaeology, fishing and cooking still too on my main. Need to get back into farming my Sulfuras Hand of Ragnaros and MH Warglaive (So far have TF, OH Warglaive and Thoridal). Also want to try see if I can work on getting Shadowmourne. Too bad Warriors can't get Val'anyr for kicks, will work on getting it on my Shaman or Paladin though. And ofc farm that ever elusive Ashes of A'lar!
