It does, but it has seemed that way for a while to me. Back when they were 25K to 35K, sure. But they've been around 110K on EU for a while now. If you can afford 110K per month, I'm guessing 160K per month isn't a barrier. It's starting to become one but not there yet.

I thought the entire reason they did this player-buys-a-token thing was to prevent adding gold to the game, which is what would happen if they simply sold gold for cash.
I'm assuming this happens in both directions which balances things out somewhat. Sometimes the prices go up, sometimes down. Sometimes Blizzard pockets the difference, sometimes they cover the difference.

Hmmm maybe its just the people I talk to then, or server specific. The threshold for "too much work for sub" seems to be only kicking in now.

In EU, the token was at 90k in december and jumped to 110k when the bnet currency was datamined by mmo-champion.

In my friendlist a lot of people were using the token when they subscribed. Only the allergic guys to gold with a hole in their pockets couldn't buy the token.

At 150-160k it is way too much for an average player. It converts to 10-30h of farming gold at 5-15k per hour.

Now the buyers of tokens are mainly people with a reserve, people converting to bnet currency, AH Tycoon, botters, and of course players with a lot of free time that can farm that amount of gold.

The casual gamers are vanishing little by little.
If you play 1h or 2h per day, wow isn't worth 13 euros.

We should see mass guild drama in EU, mainly on English and German servers as the central and east european gamers won't be able to afford the new price.
13 euros is a lot for an average wage of 200-500 euros / month.

That can't be the average income in European countries, can it? That translates to €2400 to €6000 per year. I'm in the US, but with the exchange rate of 1 US dollar being roughly equal to 1 Euro, I wouldn't think that the average European salary would be less than half of the poverty level in the US of around $12K.

Here is the wiki page for european median salary :

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...y_average_wage

Western europe is at 2-3k euros per month.
Central europe is at 500-900 euros per month.
Eastearn europe is at 200-400 euros per month.

Switzerland is at 5k and they are on a separate currency Franc Suisse with heavier price than euros.

There is only a Global EU region divided by language : english, french, german, spanich and russian.

The token price in europe is way higher because of eastern and central players.
It was the same problem at Diablo III when it was impossible to sell gold on RMAH in europe when USA guys were having a killing.

I forgot to add the Youth unempoyment rate in EU countries, 18-25 years old.
Ranging from 10-40% with a majority in the 20% mark.
25% in France, 36% in italia and 43% in spain really hurts the token price.

Wow, didn't realize there was such a disparity between East and West Europe. Good analysis on why EU tokens are so much more.
