Liquidate WoD materials: before or after prepatch?

Hello everyone! I recently got back into WoW and I think it's a bit late to try and set up any good money making strategies for now, so I was thinking of going through all of my banks and selling most of the materials I have from this expansion (with some exceptions - I plan to craft some upgrade items and scrolls). From your experience, is there a larger demand for them after the prepatch (when people are trying out new classes/specs more), or should I try and get rid of them now? Or maybe there is a better course of action for me to try and get some gold before Legion hits?

    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I'm liquidating them now, but new Demon Hunters might need them to level their professions (100 to enable world quests, 800 for some recipies).

Personally I actually got into the WoD mats market 5 days ago. Spending 100k on felblights, savage bloods, 5000 draenic dust.... I don't care if they will sell in legion or not. I saw the avg daily sold and that was 10000 so I quickly joined that mat market. The prices will probably raise in legion because garrissons will be nerfed and also wy would people still hang out in their garrissons or farm WoD mats. I see this as a long term investment and even if they do not sell. I will have them available when I need them? Maybe even to craft stage gear for transmog, who knows.

Materials will Always be a stable market. I am currently sitting on almost every mat in-game with an AH value of 450k in materials. They sell realy well, there will Always be need for each material. Some more than others buth never a bad investment.

I agree with @judy, some of these mats are the new "leveling kit" for professions in legion (1-700 segment) and with some many players returning and posibly swaping profs or leveling DHs/boosting characters.. there should be demand, and reduced/limited supply (I dont think passive GR will be enough to cover said demand).

Also, I think there will be demand during pre-patch (again returning players and DH creation/boosting). There is a noticeable difference in characters with say 685 ilvl and 710+ character ilvl while leveling (at least in the first 3 or 4 lvls). It is possible that most ppl will look to boost in power a little bit during pre-patch. So in my opinion it is safe to keep a good amount of these mats.

Im also buying cheap stuff, at least 25/30k of each (flowers, cloth, dust, leather, etc.. and at least 3 or 4k for bloods/felblights)

    Hey,

i am in "buying"/"preparing for prepatch" mode, here are some random reason/tips/infos expecially for the prepatch:

    JC/Enchanting
WoD Epic gems are buffed from 75 to 200 Stats; Mutlistrike is removed from the game and replaced with haste. Speculation: i expect we will see a spike in demand, people will come back. Additionally, class/specs which loved multistrike before prepatch and dont love haste after prepatch will replace all gems with either mastery or crit. BiS stats might swap accross classes, people will change gems + enchants- The same goes with enchants.
Very speculativ: bizzard introduce the new "+" tech to HfC with the prepatch. On beta my "feel" is, that sockets are more common then on live.

    Inscription
With the prepatch the WoD talent relearn items will be also introduced (codex and foliant of clear mind), new market for inscription items. A lot of glyphs gone + glyphui, but Glyphs are consumed, when applied and removed, need to be rebought. Some spike in sales.

    Potion of Luck, removed(mop)
Stockpile all those items that come out of it. Those items will get more expensive.(ore, leather, cloth, spirit of harmonie)

    Transmog/Wardrobe
A BIG new tech, which will be huge AH wise. the WoD crafted gear has multiple unique appeareances, Stage1/2/3. If you have a profession with a high "completion" rate, you might wanna filter out all thoe items that give unique appearances, ans start stockpiling all those mats.

Tome of Illusions (all of them)
All of them, but may be late to party when not already started to take care about it. But nonetheless, needs to know about it.

At this point in time, the cost of raw materials will not ever be lower. Not only are people farming them and gathering them through normal play, garrisons are pumping a huge amount of raw mats into the game via the trading post. I view an investment into WoD raw materials as the lowest risk possible right now. The prices are almost guaranteed to only go up from here. The issue is with the demand. If you buy 10000 sumptuous fur, it may take you months to offload all of them. If you have the capitol, and the space, then i definitely see it as a wise investment. It would be better to invest 100k into WoD mats now and slowly sell them off for 100%+ ROI throughout the following months, than to have that 100k sit stagnant and not increasing at all. The problem however, again, is space and gold. You don't want to tie up all of your gold and space into WoD mats, and then end up missing out on more lucrative markets in a month.

Prices are still "normal" on my realm realm, for those who don't know:

    Required materials: http://legion.wowhead.com/search?q=T...ns#professions
Tome of Illusions: Elemental Lords requires revered with Therazane (and a short quest)
Tome of Illusions: Secrets of the Shado-Pan requires revered with Shado-Pan

I have a truly absurd number of herbs laying around in storage. I've been buying up to 1g each out of habit more than anything else. I used to do the Glyph thing, but US Sargeras is AIDS when it comes to glyphs. I changed my TSM auction floor to 6g a long time ago and have just been liquidating. I have to go do the math on using Primals to make Cards of Omens. Otherwise, these herbs might be laying around for a very long time as dead money.

I have 10-15k of all the Sorcerous Elements and ~3000 Temporal Crystals.

Sumptous Fur stock is up to ~60k, with only enough Rush Orders to chew through ~20k of that. That has been my go-to dump for Garrison Resources on the trading post for a while. Unless they disable Garrisons completely, I'll still be able to utilize those on the 7 tailors I have running.

I had not planned on playing a character with Inscription in Legion, but given that I have probably 75k Cerulean Pigment in inventory, I should probably make an effort on that. I've been (very slowly) selling oldworld inks at 12-20g each. I'm hesitant to turn a lot of these Pigments into Warbinder ink because I won't have any way of selling those in Legion. If I split them up into old-world inks, that's an even narrower market without a crafter of my own.

I bought 7000 Spirit of Harmony a while back for 25g each because it seemed like a good deal and my philosophy is that I'd rather sit on cheap speculative inventory than let the competition win if it works out. I'd love to see those go back up significantly with the nerf to Potions of Luck.

In general, I am buying anything and everything that moves in decent quantities because I assume people will be actually playing Legion instead of farming old shit.

I have enough mats to make 30 of all the new enchanting tomes except vanilla. I just refuse to pay 250g each for Essence of Water. I am the LEAST optimistic about these, because absolutely everyone and their brother has been stockpiling these mats. But again, if people are out playing Legion instead of farming old stuff, maybe those prices will actually increase over the first few weeks as the cheaper "I farmed it so it was free!" inventory gets bought out.

Someone has spiked prices on most of the Tome mats on my server already, so it looks like I'll need to stop slacking on farming mounts in old dungeons/raids. On the upside I spent a long time buying pikes of Kyparite at dirt cheap prices in hopes of one day prospecting, crafting, and vendoring for a respectable profit. Looks like my laziness will pay off here.

I don't plan on saving or buying much from WoD. Unless they plan on getting rid of the trading post I don't see a lot retaining value. I will buy up the things i need to make bags though.
