Official dupe information & discussion thread - What you should know about it

With the rise of the dupes across many servers, and the numerous threads that keep popping up I figure it would be best to consolidate some info about it all into one post for the community's viewing pleasure, and keep the discussion contained to one thread so everyone can see what is going on.

How exploits work

Simply, exploit is just another word for bug; except, it is abused in a malicious way, or in an unintended way. They are methods that allow you to trick the server into doing something it is not supposed to. These are usually fixed by monitoring how they are done, and then adding checks against these.

Exploits

It's been far too long since we held our last contest, so we're hoping that this might lead to a more frequent schedule as well. Enter "the Great Stormspire Scavenger Hunt".
Given the way this community has grown and developed over the past year or so, and in light of how diverse our member/reader base has become, we wanted to find a competition that was:
Diablo 3 Auction House Saturation

So, I've been really thinking about the whole buying and selling process in Diablo 3 and on the Gold AH And RMAH. A few things have come to mind:

Saturation
With gear not be soulbound, there will come a point where the AH will become saturated with a lot of the same gear. Granted, there are some game mechanics that may help reduce that to an extent, like disenchanting items, but gear will never be permanent and can always be resold. The saturation will be most noticeable on lower to mid-level gear items, at least at first. This may decrease profit opportunities, as the margins become increasingly smaller as quantity of items increase

Hi guys!

It's been awhile since my last post here and I'd like to present to you a recap of recent changes on www.wowuction.com. I hope they'll help traders earn even more wow gold.
March to a Million

Section 0: Short Introduction

On March 9th, 2012, I decided to run an experiment. I rolled a character on a new realm where I had no alts or prior market experience. The alt had no professions and no seed money. Strictly by buying and selling, I managed to earn over 410k gold profit in a single month off of nearly 1.2 million gold in revenue from my auctions. This was a chance for me to try out new things, test theories, see if old tricks still worked and generally just experiment. Since my results were so impressive (to me anyways), after the first 10 days elapsed I decided I should document this process. So the following, in 3 parts written 10 days apart, is an explanation of the of the events that occured and techniques employed over the

Introducing the Anti-Bot Maneuvers!

Over the lifespan of TradeSkillMaster, we have constantly been working to ensure the addon is not used in conjunction with automation programs (aka bots). In the beta version, we had the random number entry in the Auctioning module. When it was time to create the release version, we structured the code in such a way as to deter those who may wish to modify it. All of these things have been successful, but today we are releasing what will be the most effective measure yet, the anti-bot maneuvers!

Whenever the addon detects something amiss, it'll perform avoidance maneuvers to prevent the illegitate user from using the auction house. In testing, this has been proven to be 99%

Call to ALL GOBLINS: We need ideas

Hey folks! This is Cente from the TSM team here! I'm responsible for guiding the project and designed a good chunk of the addon package along with Sapu, who has worked diligently with a few other excellent individuals through the coding aspects of the project!

I really hope you guys have enjoyed our brainchild, and we've been absolutely loving your reactions to our first non-beta release! We've worked very hard on TSM, but we still have work to do!

In this post, I need you guys to GIVE US SUGGESTIONS on the BIG IDEAS that you'd like to see in future LARGE RELEASES (read, non-beta version 2.0) of TSM.
Stormspire.net Blogging Platform Unleashed!

As discussed a couple days ago, Stormspire.net is getting its very own blogging platform.

For now, blog posting is open to users ranked Entrepreneur and higher. If you’re still a wee Apprentice, stick around and your rank will be upgraded automatically.

The VBulletin blogging platform is very powerful. It is seamlessly integrated with the forums and CMS. This means we can track and display blogging stats across the entire site. We can add stats in user profiles or postbits (under your avatar) and place widgets in the forum area or front-page. This kins of exposure will assure that blogs don't go unnoticed.

I'll try to address the main concerns that have come up so far about

New and Exciting Features For Stormspire.net

I would like to take a moment to let you guys know what we have in store for Stormspire.net and the community in general. In the past few months, a ton of work has been done in terms of site infrastructure and backend optimization. With that out of the way, we can start focusing on new and exciting front-end features. Remember that none of these implementations are set in stone yet. I value community feedback. It has vastly influenced the development of this site from day one and that will never change. If you think a feature should be released in one way or another (or not at all), let me know, your opinion matters!

Upgrade Downtime Tonight

We're back!

Please note: some forum features will be unavailable until patched/fixed. Please report major bugs only for now.

---

We're going from VBulletin 4.1.8 to 4.1.11 some time tonight, I don't expect the downtime to be too serious. If the forums are offline, please don't spam them as you might just end up on the firewall deny list.

4.1.11 is full of great features, more details to come!
