      Very nice.

Despite having a huge number of gem cuts, I'm not sure I have Reckless at the moment. I'll have to investigate...

Reckless shouldn't be in the elemental shaman list, it should be artful. Not sure how accurate the list is for other specs, but it could change the overall picture.

I checked the guide http://www.wowhead.com/guide=726/gem...s#class-shaman once more, it says Ele shammy should use Reckless.
I also checked it at http://www.askmrrobot.com/wow/gear/shamanelemental, Reckless there as well.

Mr Robot isn't necessarily the best option. I know for fire mages, they stack haste, to a certain point, and then once they hit that cap, stack crit. So just saying that haste/int is the BiS gem for fire mages orange option isn't completely accurate. That being said, it is useful to see relative amounts of who want what gem. Still, always take a look at the market and see what the pricing is. Artful sells well on my server, at roughly 150-200g, and you wouldn't necessarily think that based on the only 2 occurrences in the chart above.

Great post, good info to have for people who are looking at which cuts to get.

One thing to consider is that not everyone knows to or wants to put BiS gems in their gear. I prefer to use http://www.wowpopular.com/Gems which takes Armory data to see what gems people actually have in their gear.

Your list has Bold cuts coming in 11th, but WoWPopular shows they actually come in 3rd in popularity.

Your list has Glinting cuts coming in 6th, but WoWPopular shows they actually come in 16th in popularity.

All lists/sites like this have their pros and cons, that is just the one I prefer to use to see which cuts to buy.

Then both are wrong. In the end 1 spec being wrong doesn't matter, but there might be others wrong as well which changes the priority. That being said, I guess this list is a damn good start.

Awesome work, just like with the enchanting one! However there is a small flaw in this. You prioritized reckless over bold for example. While it is true that more classes use this gem, it is less used overall. 90% of the slots are filled with Red gems, this should prioritize all red gems (except the crappy exp one) over all other gems.
If you have some time to fix it I would suggest looking for the amount of red slots and the amount of slots that get a red gem instead of the appropriate colour. Doesnt have to be spec specific, just an average to calculate in which colour of gem is actually used the most.

      Thank you for your comments!

      I updated my post for:

      - class distribution
      - cut weights for available gems slot

      To Zenga
      Then both are wrong.
I cheked EJ site http://elitistjerks.com/f79/t110309-...ch_4_3_a/#Gems, they recommened Reckless as well. I don't play shammy, but you might be interested to read why EJ prefer Reckless over Artful.

Every simcraft with BiS gear will show that mastery pulls ahead over haste for ele shamans. Reason is the way the 4 piece set bonus works, which together with trinket/bloodlust/elemental mastery will put you under the GCD for lightning bolts. I don't know why EJ has outdated information, but totemspot.org is generally accepted as the most reliable source for ele shaman theorycrafting.

Lists like this make me giggle.

Sure, the reds are the best selling gems, everyone knows this, everyone buys these recipes first, you compete with a larger population when selling them.

The oddballs, people do not buy these recipes right away, they sell, it is the start of en expansion, you can charge a stupid high price and they sell.

Buy the red gem recipes you need for your main use (and any other you need for your main), then diversify into oddballs. Less competition, more profit over the long road.

Or, buy all the red cuts first, be completely out of stock of uncut red gems, and have to sit in useless inventory for months.

Me, I will buy the one red I need, then diversify quickly into whatever other colors I have the most of. If I have more green gems on hand than any other, I buy green recipes, repeat till all recipes known. Doing it this way, the last two expansions, I only had one red recipe to start and STILL ran out of uncut gems while having massive quantities of the others.

Something to think about as you are buying your recipes at the start.

What do people think about avoiding gems with hit when making cut purchase decisions? My general feeling is that hit is easy enough to reforge into that you shouldn't have to gem it in a red slot vs your core stat gem, and looking at the chart, green secondary/+hit gems don't seem to be recommended hardly at all (Crit/Hit Piercing, with two recommendations). Or do you think that enough people will go "Ok, Glinting Demonseye! Thanks, Noxxic!" and buy a gem without first considering reforging (alright, sometimes you do need that gem to close the gap) enough of the time to make it a good call to buy ahead of some others?

Sometimes using a purple gem with hit is actually superior to just reforging all your hit, if you have a blue socket with a nice bonus (such as 10 or 20 of a primary stat). I know this is true of ret paladins at least. Etched was one of the first cuts I picked up because of this.

If the socket is blue and the socket bonus is decent then yes, people will buy the str/int/agi + hit gem. That is, if they have any sense in them. The world of reforging and gemming doesn't quite work like how you suggested in that post.
