  • Consortium Profession Leveling Kit Spreadsheet

This spreadsheet is based off the work of @Namssob and his guide How to: Create and Sell Profession Kits. This thread was originally in the Ethereal Contributor Exclusive Area and has since been moved to the public forums.

The purpose of this spreadsheet is to facilitate buying and selling profession leveling kits. I barked a few kits in trade for fun and there was a lot of interest, which prompted me to develop this.

    What can the spreadsheet do?
    • Evaluates the cheapest cost to level a profession based on wow-professions.com guides.
    • Pulls pricing data from The Undermine Journal.
    • Calculates the cheapest alternative when 2 or more options are available.
    • Evaluates the number of bank slots required.
    • Provides a flexible shopping list.
    • Options to level to 525, or to an intermediate step (ie: 485 tailoring/leatherworking). This allows you to avoid the most expensive part of leveling.
    • Does all of the above for Jewelcrafting (495), Alchemy (525), Tailoring (485/525), Leatherworking (485/525) and Blacksmithing (525).

    This spreadsheet does not:
    • Take into account current available stock.
    • Evaluate ALL options for leveling.
    • Evaluate ALL options for creating materials (ie: prospecting Ores to obtain gems).
    • Allow you to mindlessly make profession kits. You still have to use your head! I recommend using wow-profession guides in conjunction with this spreadsheet.

    How to Use:

    • Import TUJ pricing under the "TUJ data" tab. as you would do in the Shuffling Spreadsheet. Baconcheese wrote a quick guide on how to import TUJ's excel data, check it out. Otherwise, you must manually input item prices in the "Kit Price" tab.
    • Switch to the Parameters tab. Fill out the beige cells only. Leave the remaining cells alone. The Overview area shows how much a profession costs to level, your sale price, your profit, and the number of slots each profession requires.

    • Switch to the "Kit Prices" tab. This is where the logic for each step is calculated. Take a look around, and familiarize yourself with the inner workings of the spreadsheet.

    • Switch to the "Shopping Lists" tab. This tab is similar to the "Kit Prices" tab. Here, you must fill out the beige cells with materials that you have gathered. The spreadsheet shows your progress in terms of units remaining, and % complete.

    • REMEMBER: updating the TUJ tab will change the spreadsheet's recommendations. Today's cheapest route may not be the same tomorrow!

This project is still in beta. Changes will be made at a fast pace, so make sure to check back for newer versions frequently.

Doesn't work for me in Excel 2007. I just get #REF for every box after importing into the tuj tab(tried 3x in cell 1 to make sure)

Transmutation quest was changed to Truegold and some other stuff as well.

That's weird, seems to be working fine for me. I uploaded it again, see if anything changes.

Thanks a lot for this! A lot of hard work and it is appreciated. Can I ask why I am not seeing Engineering on this? I am just trying to understand what are the limitation that engineering might have.

      Thanks!

As per Namssob's experience, Engineering (and other professions missing from the spreadsheet) is not worth it. Partly due to lack of sales, and partly due to the complicated nature of leveling.

      Works now, thanks

OK, just got my laptop back, rebuilt, with Windows 7, so I should have more time (and the right tools) to take a closer look at this. But I do like what I see!

While I am unsure whether this has been mentioned in the original Namssob thread, I was wondering what the impact would be of preprocessing the kits. I feel that, especially the tailoring kit, will be a lot easier to digest if all the raw cloth has been turned into bolts. I realize that making bolts accounts for skillups with every new material type, but one could compensate for this with additional mats. 333 slots for materials is crazy and would take up more than 3 guild tabs by itself.

This is mainly speculative on my side, as this SUPER helpful spreadsheet (thanks, by the way) shows me that a tailoring kit wouldn't be smart at the moment because of high material costs.

Another concern I have is that people will not want to add a character to a guild for this. I thought that mailing the items to a character, in the correct order, with an overview of what they would have to make, could be an alternative, but I believe that players would have a hard time trusting you enough to pay up front for this. C.O.D. is an option, but you would have to calculate the value of the parts that you're sending, so that the buyer doesn't simply pay for the parts that are C.O.D.'ed at a too low value after taking the mean of the total.

All in all, food for thought, and something I am considering starting once I get my second account going (10 character minimum to a server, sheez)

EDIT: got a brainwave on the throne; what about cooking and first aid?

This is fantastic! Just one question, it is possible to add enchanting in the worksheet?

I'm using it with google docs atm because i don't have MS office installed on my computer yet. (will do that ASAP) so i have to input everyting manually for now.

so far, i have a few small points of critic.

      1) 2 adamantite ores are needed to smelt 1 bar. therefore, in the kit prices tab, field C40 should read: "=IF(D40>(D41*2);0;10)" and field C41 should read =20-(C40*2) to account for the double ores needed.

      2) the spreadsheet suggests to buy fractions of items sometimes, would be cleaner to make and IF, ELSE statement to round up for the single cheapest while rounding down for the second and third cheapest. For example =IF(D32>SMALL($D$32:$D$37,1),IF(D32>SMALL($D$32:$D$37,3),0,ROUNDDOWN(55/3)),ROUNDUP(55/3)) for cell C32

      3) at row 51 on the kit prices tab, row 50 is repeated.

I can't get this to work with Office 2010. I have just copied my data over from the Shuffling Sheet, and nothing but #REF throughout. Any ideas how to fix this?

What do you mean by you copied it from the shuffling sheet? Are you referring to copy/pasting?
    1. Kaspyn's Avatar
      Kaspyn -
Both copy/paste and opening the XML data as a read only and a table, none of these work.

Since I don't use either spreadsheet, I'm just taking a guess here. Some of the sections of the spreadsheet can have names (For example, the price column on the imported info may be named "Price") and when you copy/pasted, you may have removed the names or added your own from the shuffling spreadsheet. If the spreadsheet uses vlookup and some of these names did get mixed up, it could cause all of the #REF errors.

      Again, that's just my guess.

Interesting. I'll try it again, then. I'm sure it's something I'm doing wrong. I have very little Excel knowledge and know-how. Thanks for the tip, @Valdron

Has anyone made a version of this updated for MOP? They seem to have reduced a lot of the levelling quantities.

Indeed an update for this would be amazing. I never seen this before to have gotten to utilize it though I love the concept. I sell kits occasionally and this would be a great help in their assembly and evaluation.

*poke @Sterling* I, too, would love to see this updated for MoP 5.4.7! Just getting into profession kits with a friend, and this would be a fantastic tool to have.

I started using the list recently and updated it for for the latest wow-profession.com lists. If the author posts his updated one I can remove mine, but I guess till then you can use this one if you wish. Every original profession is updated and working on adding Eng and Insc as we speak.

I take absolutely no credit - all credit goes to OP for this nice spreadsheet!

If you should find a mistake, please let me know as I'm using it actively as well(we wouldn't wanna make any losses now would we!) :>
