  • Introducing Donations and Premium Membership!

As a means of curbing forum costs, we are introducing a donation/subscription system here at the Consortium.

There are 2 types of donations available:

    1. Premium subscription:

    • Premium subscriptions are geared toward users wanting to get the most out of the forums.
    • The benefits given to you are our way of saying thanks.
    • Unlocks special forum features, including the server resource-intensive on-site chat box!
      • Wind Trader priority support - Need help, but don't want the world to know about your methods? Contributors gain access to a private forum where they can get priority support and feedback directly from Wind Traders!
      • Ad-free forums - Browse the site ad-free! Say goodbye to those annoying adblockers!
      • Alpha access to new addons and projects - Just like Wind Traders, contributors will occasionally be given sneak-peak access to new addons and tools in development.
      • On-site chatbox - Chat up a storm with Wind Traders, site staff and other contributors!
      • Enhanced inbox capacity (500, up from 100).
      • Enhanced signature area - Allows you to put pictures in your signature.
      • Glowing username - The coolest look in town.
      • Highlighted threads - Give your threads that extra flare and attention. Highlighted threads get 87.24% more views!
      • Custom avatar - You request it, we make it.
      • Custom title - Want a cool, PG13 custom title? You request it, you get it.

    • More features to be added soon!

    2. One-time goodwill donation:
    • These are simply one-time donations, without the added perks. You still get our eternal gratitude, though!Members that have accumulated a large amount of reputation will be permanently bumped up to Ethereal Contributor status.

Hm, not sure if's it's working as it should. For example choosing the "3/4 and subscribe for 12/6 months" options complains that the minimum amount to donate must be at least 5 USD. Also, I want another username before I do anything :P

Says the same for me when selecting the options mentioned in Star1814 post.

same as above... will go forward with the 5 for three, but nothing above (sorry for the backlog of pm's from that test)

I just hope access to the IRC channel again is included in donator privileges :P

EDIT: On a more constructive note I managed to selected 5 for 3, but still waiting for the second pm. Is this automated or manual?

PM me the username you'd like.

I screwed up the maths. Give me a sec.

Alright fixed. Unfortunately, the mad deals are gone. Removed the default minimum donation amount.

The subscription dropdown is still confusing to me. I thought I was donating $5/mo for 3 months (to try out the subscription features) but it turned out to be $5 every 3 months for a year (for a total of $20? Maybe?).

Anyway, now, for example, there's "donate 18 and subscribe for 6 months". Is that:
      A) $18/mo for 6 months (total $108 per halfyear)
      B) $3/mo for 6 months (total $18 per halfyear)
      C) $18 once every 6 months (total $18 per halfyear)
      D) something else?

Maybe I'm just thick right now and should get some sleep, but that dropdown could use some work.

As I understand it @Erorus, "donate 18 and subscribe for 6 months" means you pay $18 for 6 months, mathematically resulting in $3/mo, but you pay for all 6 months at once with $18.

Having said that, it's .. christ, it's actually 6 AM.

Hey guys,I just tried to subscribe but it won't work because my paypal uses direct debit and not a credit card. If you can change the donation settings to also accept paypal via direct debit, I'd appreciate it... and of course, I'll donate. Thx & BestGutemann

Hey guys, I'll be looking into all of this tonight, and will make clarifications where needed. I think there may be a couple bugs to squash still as well.

I have no problem issuing refunds, so rest assured that everything is ok!

Sterling, great addition to the site! We're patient (goblins have to be, eh?). I echo @Keldara's concern....I want to know exactly how much Ill be donating (both initially and monthly) before clicking on that submit button, and the titles are a bit ambiguous.

@Erorus, I just subbed and the confirmation I got from paypal is $33 for 12 months with the next payment due in 12 months if that helps.

I'm having a similar issue. I imagine it's because I have a Maestro card, but I've made a donation to Sapu for TSM in the past, so I don't know why it wouldn't work here :[

It seems like the donation module interfaces strangely with paypal. Everything's working fine except the number of payment cycles:

      $10 for 3 months. Resulted in a one-time $10 payment, for 3 months, recurring 3 times (9 month subscription).
      $18 for 6 months. Resulted in a one-time $18 payment, for 6 months, recurring 6 times (36 month subscription).
      $33 for 12 months. Resulted in a one-time $33 payment, for 12 months, recurring 12 times (144 month subscription).

The bolded part is weird. Of course this is unintended, and I will manually disable these recurring cycles.

Going forward, I will move subscriptions to vbulletin's integrated system. It's far more robust and interfaces well with paypal (ie, "knows" if payment went through and updates your status automatically). The donation system will remain as it is.

      C, final answer!

I will make changes and elaborate a little more.

It seems like debit/direct transfer/credit are all working. I'm not sure what the problem is .

I will clarify more on the donations page itself.

Keep in mind the forum isn't a repository for top secret information, its main purpose is for one-on-one discussion between contributors and WTs. Though threads will be put in there occasionally. I will clarify on this as well. If the subscription is not what you thought, PM me for a refund.

I changed my Paypal settings to English so i can directly quote the error messages:

      1. Login Page:
PayPal securely processes payments for The Consortium. To complete your checkout using PayPal, please log in. Learn more.

Subscriptions can only be used with credit card payments.
      2. After login:

      Error Message
You must add a credit card to complete this purchase. Some payments, like instant and immediate payments, require a credit card.

Add a credit card to your PayPal account and pay fast and secure anytime.

Enter your credit card data below.

Is it possible to change this? Would love to give you some money ;-)

I've been in your boat, trying to do something good here and having to ask for help can be a hard thing. I mainly just read, not a lot of time for jibber jabber, but wanted to say thanks to the entire community here for all of the conversations. I don't really know or always pay attention to names or who runs the joint, I just like coming here, $33 to help keep this place afloat, worth it for me.

I subbed (and got my notification from PayPal) but am not seeing any change in status here. I'm not worried so much about the perks, but I want to be sure the site gets its contribution...you really deserve the support.

I just completely revamped the donation/subscription system, there's a couple different options there. See if one suits you.
