  • Guide: The Real Remote Auctionhouse (TSM and Auctioneer Included!!)

I don't know if I'm the only one, but I have a love of Android. I love mods, roms and just general customizing them in general. I have used a program called logmein in the past for remote access to my home PC from my work PC. It has always worked well, and with the addition of an Android App, It became a mission of mine to get WoW running on my phone.

As long as you can run logmein, I'm pretty sure your phone should be able to handle this. The phone itself isn't doing much of the work, it is all being streamed over wifi or 3g. So FPS should be dependent on your internet speed and not the ram/processor of your phone.

You can find logmein here https://secure.logmein.com/

Logmein has multiple versions that vary in price.
    • Logmein Pro – Their full featured Client. However, I have found the free version to meet my needs. Pro allows remote printing, sound and file sharing.
    • Logmein Ignition – The Ignition I use is the android application, and is 29.95. There are also some other options for remote access from phones, though I have no experience with them. Some I believe are cheaper.
    • Logmein Free – This is the client I run on my home computers that I access remotely.
    • Logmein Hamachi – They have some other services such as this one, which I haven't used. I won't go explaining this one or the others as it's not used in this tutorial.

Heres how to get Logmein Set up and running
    1. On the computer you want to access remotely, go to https://secure.logmein.com/ and sign up
    2. Log in and click on the Add Computer Button.
    3. Check mark Logmein Free.
    4. This will start a download. Install it on to your PC.
    5. At the end you will need to set up a password to access this computer remotely.

You can repeat this to add more computers if needed. You should now have Logmein set up on your main WoW computer.

The next step is to download Logmein Ignition for your Android or Iphone. You will log in to the account you previously made. This will then bring up your list of computers that you added earlier.

Here are a few pointers in getting logmein to work correctly.

    1. Have WoW already up and running in windowed mode. This helps as sometimes logmein has a hard time with things that run in fullscreen. You will get a black screen with just the WoW cursor.
    2. You can also turn the graphic all the way down to help with performance.
    3. When you first start the Phone application, it should resize your resolution to around 800x600. I find it works a bit better if you keep it at this resolution. You can go for higher, but it's not going to run as smoothly.
    4. Run in greyscale. This and resolution can be changed in the options menu. Greyscale gives you the best FPS. However, it is sometimes better to run in low quality mode with color as it is easier to see.

When using logmein on your phone, it is extremely hard to move around. I have found that using /targetexact macros coupled with mapping “interact with target” to keybinds works wonders. I will give some detailed instructions for the AH in the Valley of Wisdom in Orgrimmar.
    1. Go into Options > Interface > Mouse and Check “Click to Move”.
    2. Go into your key bindings and bind “Interact with Target”. I bind it to two keys myself, one for when I'm remotely accessing my hope PC from work on my work PC, and one for when I'm on my phone. I use “\” for my work PC, and “(“ for my phone. You may want to customize this for your own phones keyboard. I used “(“ because my phone has that button close to my number buttons.
    3. Create a macro for targeting the auctioneer and drag it to your 1-9 buttons. The macro needed is /targetexact Auctioneer Sowata . This couple with “Interact with Target” is amazing. You can be standing at mailbox, Click target macro, click interact macro, and instantly run towards Auctioneer and open it up.
    4. Create a macro to target the Stable Master named Lonto. He stands right next to the mailbox and is easily close enough to click on the mailbox. The macro is /targetexact Lonto. Clicking this macro and then interact macro will cause you to run from AH to him, where the mailbox is in clicking range.
    5. Next is create this macro /targetexact Tatepi . This is the name of the Banker in close range of the AH and Mailbox.
    6. Next is the most tricky step. It is the steps used to select the guild bank. First we are going to create the following macro /targetexact Isashi . Now, before you go and use this macro, let me explain it. This macro is used in the following steps needed to reach the guild bank

      1. Use your Auctioneer macro to get to the Auctioneer.
      2. Use your new /targetexact Isashi macro. This will make you run towards the hut to the right of the guild bank. You will get stopped by the “General Goods & trade Supplies” sign. This is good and what we want.
      3. When you are stopped by the sign, use your /targetexact Tatepi macro to run at the Banker.
      4. When running towards Banker, you get stuck on a box. However, this box is right next to the Guild Bank, and makes it easily accessible.
      5. This may sound like a lot, but when in actual use, takes just a matter of seconds to get from AH to guild bank. For me, this is what the keypresses look like.
      6. Press 1 then press ( and let it run to auctioneer
      7. Press 3 then press ( and let it run to sign,
      8. Press 2 then press ( and run to the run to box.
      9. Click Guild Bank.
      10. Takes maybe 5-10 seconds total depending on where you started.

Now, once you have all of this configured and set up, you should now have access to AH, Mailbox, Bank and Guild Bank all remotely on your phone. Being able to move freely between the 4 with nothing but macros.

I haven't been on Alliance since Pre-Cata, so I'm unsure where this would work best for Alliance. I did try to set it up some in Shattrath, and it worked decent, but had a few snags with the guild bank due to the layout. Required a slight turn to the right for it to in view of clicking. When I get more time I plan on working on an Alliance spot.

Now, when it comes to using the actual Auction House, I HIGHLY recommend using this method with TSM. It makes life a million times easier.

A few odd and ends pointers.
    1. When clicking on the mailbox, there is a little icon at the bottom of you phones screen the looks like a mouse. Click that to alternate from left and right clicks
    2. To click and drag using logmein, You double tap, but on second tap you hold and drag.
    3. You have a few options for keyboards. I have not been able to try this on a phone with a hardware keyboard, so I can't give opinions on it, but I have tried both the logmein keyboard and the Windows Onscreen keyboard. They both work and I use both. Using the logmenin keyboard doesn't allow for using WASD for movement very well. So when I need that I use the Windows one. It can also be nice as it can be set at bottum of the screen and be out of your view when needed
    4. Use your pinch to zoom in and out. It works really well with the mobile app. Often I find it easier to read small stuff on my phone than on my work PC because of the amount you can zoom in on the phone.
    5. The logmein keyboard can be brought up by clicking the keyboard icon. Also, to access buttons such as ESC, click the button with F1 and F2 buttons at the top of the screen while you have the keyboard up.

I know this guide isn't for everyone, but in my previous post it seemed that there was some interest in seeing a more fleshed out guide. I plan to have some videos added in the future, only issue is finding a camera, as my phone is my only camera.

Let me know if I missed anything or need to better explain anything.

Now, all this being said, there is nothing better than being suckered into going to the grocery store with the Wife, and while there, canceling all undercut auctions, reposting, checking for snatches, resale and disenchant tabs in auctioneer. =)

Here is a Video of it on my Ipod Touch. I wish i could have filmed it on my droid X, as the keyboard on it doesnt take up as much room and you can see everything better on the larger screen. However, my only video camera happens to be my Droid X, which makes that an issue lol. The footage is Blurry, and the actual game is clear when using logmein. For some reason filming something on another phone made it blurry on my Droid X. I think you can see enough to get an idea of how this looks though.

This is a video of how it looks when remotely viewing from another PC. I use this method when at work and its a slow day. This method is free and costs nothing. So even if you don't have a droid/iphone or the money to pay for the application, this is still something everyone can do. This works on netbooks and any PC that is too old to play WoW.

EDIT: Sorry about the bad formatting of the Numbering. I typed this up in wordpad and can't seem to get the formatting right when pasting into this post.

Argh. I wish I read your post before spending $15 on the LogMeIn iPhone app. It does "work", but it's giving me about 0.1 FPS (about 1 frame per 10 seconds) on WoW and is nearly unusable. Also I haven't been able to click on anything with any accuracy at all (I click in the middle but it presses a button off to the side of WoW). Also, the thing it said about "being able to wake up a sleeping computer" was an outright lie. I don't see how you can even connect in the first place if your computer is asleep.

I'm going to test the TeamViewer app tonight and get back on how useful it is.

try lowering the setting in logmein. If the quality settings are high, the FPS are unusable. Also, try lowering the resolution.

Also, it does wake sleeping ones. Sometimes it won't, I have installed windows updates etc using logmein, and let PC restart and still been able to get logmein back up and running after restart.

Also, on Teamviewer, make sure you lower quality setting for speed optimization. I've used logmein on older PCs as well and had no issues, so i think if you mess with the settings you should get it up and running. Also, you should still be able to return logmein for a refund. I know a while back they changed return policy, but you should still be within time limit.

EDIT: wanted to add, that I have shattrath somewhat mapped out for alliance. Guild Bank is the only hard one to get to, as i requires you to rotate screen slightly to have it in view to be clicked. However, bank, mailbox and AH are all easy to get to.

I can also recommend SplashTop for remote desktop access. I have used it for a few weeks now to access my Macs at home, including auction housing and crafting, from my iPad and I am extremely impressed. Easy to use, it works with gestures and the performance is very snappy even over 3G. The streamer runs on Windows too and you can get the app for Android as well. If you want it be quick though, it's been at $3.99 for quite a while so they will probably bump the prince up soon.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll have to check out some videos on it etc.

Great post and +rep! I'd simply like to point out that the most recent MobileAH update from Blizzard is much better for buying and/or checking prices with some Auctionator-like functionality. It's great to see they are moving in that direction!

Edit: The reason Logmein may not be turning on your computer could be that you have Wake On LAN or similar features disabled in the BIOS and/or Windows.

One of my friends is trying out teamviewer. It works for him, but he's having some issues with clicking. I think he said he has figured it out, but won't know more til he gets back home.

Theres also another free one I've heard that works well for android called Android-vnc-viewer.

Looks like my friend figured out teamviewer. I'm working with him getting some macros set up for shatt. He doesn't have a guild bank, so shatt will work nicely for alliance. However, been having time issues, just started my Fall Semester back at college, and doing online classes this time around. Man, did I under estimate the amount of reading in online classes! lol. On top of this, I'm in the middle of closing on a house, and have had the rest of my freetime caught up in that, and setting everything up for my move. barely having time to just keep my own auctions posted lol.

As soon as everything settles down, should have some more exact alliance things listed, a more in depth guide on using teamviewer, as free alternative, and a more fleshed out video that will be clear and filmed on my droid x since it has a much larger screen. I think I'll likely have commentary in the video so everyone knows what is going on when i'm doing it to get a better understanding.

Also, even if you don't plan on using this, these macros are a godsend. I use them even when i'm playing on my gaming PC. You do so much running between mailbox and auctioneer, that i don't know I lived without it.

How difficult is it to roll the mouse wheel on this, Squanch?

I have used this feature frequently for years and it does indeed work. There are a few caveats and a few misconceptions about its use however. It is not called Wake My Computer, it is called Wake On LAN, and it is called that for a reason.

For a more thorough understanding of what Wake On LAN is and can do, this LINK from wikipedia.org is a good overview.

In a nutshell, you must have the following in order for it to work:
      • Have Wake On LAN enabled on the PC (found in the PC’s bios)

      • Have another computer running with logmein installed and available on the same LAN.

Without those two items, you will not have success.

Please read this LINK from logmein.com and it will give you a better overview of what it takes to function.

If you meet the basic criteria and still have issues getting it to work, send me a PM and I would gladly try to help you out.

Re: OP, great write up! I have been using remote access to my home PC for AH runs for quite a while now. The mouse sensitivities all but rule out actual play, but if time were spent solving that issue, I could have a great time from the office!

Very enjoyable read. And great guide with the video and all. Shame it's a bit blurry yes.
As soon as you get this running with teamviewer I'll be sure to try it out!

I got this set up with LogMeIn Ignition on my iPhone. One question though...when using this to undercut auctions in TSM I usually have to tap my screen like 200-300 times (that's how many auctions I have to undercut). This is not a problem on my computer, because I have the mouse scroll wheel macro. I was wondering if you know any way of simulating the scrolling functionality in LogMeIn?

I have not yet found a replacement for the mousewheel. I will have to research it more. I have not really used a mousewheel macro. I find it too hard to get used to as I use it to zoom in and out constantly when playing.

@Aeroth It works with teamviewer. I'm pretty sure one of my friends told me he tried it and it worked.

I am looking to combine the convenience of remote controlling my home pc (while @ work...don't get to run WoW here) with the CSK to do my milling and prospecting. Ideally, while I am typing/moving the mouse/working on my office computer, the same input signals would get routed to the remote control client and the milling/prospecting gets done in the background.

I have been using the browser based plugin which allows you to log in to the home computer in order to do this. However, I wanted to know if there is anyway of routing your inputs from the Control machine to the Remote machine automatically? I tried setting up CSK on the office computer to route inputs to the browser window...but it doesn't seem to be working.

Wouldn't AutoHotKey do this once configured? It's designed for people who multibox, but it's not unheard of to be used to auto-mill on a second account sa you play on the first.

I don't think I was clear...Let's say I have WoW PC & Office Laptop.I use Office Laptop to connect to WoW PC over LogMeIn's browser window plug in. I have AHK installed on Office Laptop & WoW PC:Office Laptop - route inputs to Firefox window which is remote controlling WoW PCWoW PC - send tilde (~, my milling macro hotkey) to WoW clientHowever, this isn't working, probably because the plug in is an extra layer in the way?I was hoping there was some way to configure LogMeIn to send mouse/keyboard events to the client it is controlling while remaining in the background.

I have recently set this up so I can access the AH from work, on my Iphone.
Theres an Iphone app called "Wake" which will send a magic packet to your computer and wake it up from sleep mode. Works beautifully and gets around the Logmein problem of having to have a computer on the LAN already running Logmein to get another going.
I can then use Logmein to get WoW running.
In Australia over a 3G network I used about a Gig of data while camping the AH over a 4hr period. Data costs here may be prohibative if you can't get access to Broadband.

This guide is ace and allows me to keep my auctions listed from work where I have no other way to get onto WoW.

Worth noting that logmein now have a free app on the apple app store which works fine for this.

Having not used the Ignition app (which currently costs a whopping £89.95 on app store!) I’m not sure if the UI is much different but I’ve set myself as click to move with the camera as always adjust (mouse settings on wow).

It’s pretty easy to interact with for running from the auction house to the mail box without any macros.

I want to say that I just discovered this guide and I can't believe I've done without it for so long! I tried logging into Logmein at work, and unfortunately it's blocked. So I bit the bullet and bought the Android app and I'm amazed at how well it works!

Need to find a better solution than tapping my phone 200 times to post auctions, but otherwise this is the f'ing tits!

I just have the post macro bound to mouse wheel up or down, then I swipe scroll on my iPad or iPhone up or down. Super easy.

I have my macro bound to the scroll wheel as well. How do I set this up so that it works with LogMeIn?

EDIT: Nevermind, I figured out that double finger drag is the command for the scroll wheel. Just tried it and worked amazingly!
