  • Activate Goblin Mode: Firelands 4.2 Stockpiling

Normally I don't blog or write about anything if it's a rehash, unless I have something valuable to add to the conversation (ie: Shuffling). Over the past couple weeks a few people have asked for stockpiling advice, and of course I was so kind to point them to the speculation forum. Upon further investigation it appears that the forum has indeed pinpointed exactly what should be stockpiled, but these discussions are scattered and convoluted. Let me be your vessel to riches and beacon of enlightenment for the day. Monocle equipped.

Jham1 asks (edited for spelling, sorry buddy):

First of all you should never spend ALL of your investment capital unless you are absolutely confident in yourself. The forums are a great place for advice, but always use your own judgement, after all, you're investing your own gold.

There is already a fairly lengthy thread about 4.2 stockpiling here. Remember that the patch hits in about 12 days (June 21st).

    My stockpiling strategy is straightforward:
    • Stockpile the crafting materials used in new recipes.
      • There will be a huge initial rush for materials right when the patch hits as every crafter will have his/her professions list automatically upgraded with the latest, baddest PvP recipes.
      • New crafted epic weapons and armor are being added to the game. The weapons do not require [item lang=PTR]Living Ember[/item]. These epic recipes are gated, meaning there will be a secondary rush for crafting materials once players start unlocking epic recipes.
      • You should be selling both crafting materials and the finished goods. Even the pieces requiring Living Ember will be massively profitable. I entered this market during the ICC days and found it to be immensely lucrative.
    • Stockpile large amounts of enchanting materials (enough to feed the demand at the AH and in the form of enchanting scrolls).
    • Stockpile large amounts of gems and other enhancements.

    Observations:
    • Inferno Rubies are going to go through the roof. The demand will be fueled by new raid / crafted gear. Some weapons now require Inferno Rubies too. All crafted weapons have a red socket.
    • Volatile Fire, Air and Water will be home-runners this patch. Life is probably a safe investment, but I would focus on the the former first.

    Stockpiling Strategy - Crafting Materials

To craft a full set of epic weapons, plate, and leather items you will need:

    • x 64
      • x 384
      • x 640 each.
    • x 78
      • x 1560 and x 312
    • x 248
    • x 320
    • x 350
    • x 8
    • x 64
    • x 2
    • x 4

To craft a full set of PvP gear (cloth, leather, mail, plate, cloaks, jewelry and relics) you will need:

    x 158 or x 790
    x 235
    x 126
    x 213
    x 84
    x 20
    x 288
    x 160
    x 2
    x 194
    x 9
    x 9
    x 8
    x 15

    As per Meyer's awesome thread, you will need the following mats for a full set of popular enchants (including Hurricane, Heartsong and Avalanche). Take note, you should stockpile more than 1 set, I elaborate further down;

    x 39
    x 45
    x 55
    x 101
    x 21
    x 25
    x 15
    x 3

On most realms, enhancements are nearly selling at cost. You can pick them up directly, or stockpile the mats required to make them. Powerful Spellthreads are obviously an exception, since you can't "stockpile" Dreamcloth. The following should be enough to cover popular enhancements, including rare spellthreads, all leg armors, a belt buckle and shield spike.

    x 2
    x 30
    x 10
    x 4
    x 20
    x 12
    x 18
    x 8
    x 30

    Of course, you don't want to stockpile only 1 of each item. A good plan is to stockpile enough to build multiple sets of popular gear (strength plate over int plate for example). I will be entering every market listed above, stockpiling mats for the following;
    • 2 sets of epic weapons.
    • 2 sets of epic leather and plate.
    • 2 sets of fireweave and embersilk.
    • 2 sets of agility and intellect mail.
    • 2 sets of agility and intellect leather.
    • 1 set of intellect plate, 3 sets of strength plate.
    • 6 sets of cloaks.
    • 6 sets of rings.
    • 6 sets of necks.
    • 6 sets of relics.
    • 5 of each epic weapon enchant.
    • 10 of each regular weapon enchant.
    • 5 of each armor enchant.
    • 10 of every enhancement.
    • 40 belt buckles.
    • 3 stacks of each gem color, plus the gems required for crafts, and a mountain of Inferno Rubies.

    Final Stockpile Tally

The final tally for all stockpiled items (as raw mats) would be:
    • [128] (stockpile them now, don't wait for transmutes)
    • [1880] (or just make bolts)
    • [1298]
    • [1171]
    • [1393]
    • [322]
    • [1029]
    • [3080]
    • [520]
    • [160]
    • [4216]
    • [358] (58 for crafts, the rest can be cut and sold)
    • [114]
    • [60]
    • [116]
    • [60]
    • [60]
    • [195]
    • [270]
    • [320]
    • [570]

I also recommend a large stockpile of , as it will likely spike and provide an alternate source of Heavenly Shards, Dusts or Essences if needed. Assuming I stockpiled exactly as shown above, the total would add up to about 300k. Of course, it's hard to stockpile this accurately, some markets will be overshot, others won't be met in time.

If you think anything should be added to this list, let me know!

    What's your stockpile like?

Great post! Thanks for the help.

I've got a great stockpile of enchanting material. Time to try and get some Truegold!

And "Volatile Fire, Air and Water will be hit hardest by this patch" - I'm not sure I get this. You expect the prices to go down for all three?

Pennyworth, he means Volatile Fire, Air and Water will likely be the biggest price jumpers, as they are needed in large quantities for the new crafted gear. There will be a pretty large increase in demand for all 3, especially Fire & Water. I honestly would add Volatile Earth to the list as well. It won't see quite as big a demand increase, but it will still see some.

WoWhead module brings up Needles Pyrite Ore instead of Pyrite Ore, for some reason. Fixed now.

And yeah, guess I should reword that part about volatiles.

Tank Leg Armors will take 20 V Earth each to craft. You'll want more of these.

Great tip. I forgot about those. They also take 1 Pristine Hide. Man, those are going to be huge. Every raiding tank will want to replace their current leg armor.

I'm getting as many of V. Air Water and Fire as I can and as much truegold as I can. I'm not even gonna be able to craft the gear and I'm still doing it. Also in the process of quadrupling my consumable (flasks, elixirs and pots) stock and enchant stock as well as as many cut rares I can get my hands on. I'm also going to create an emergency banker on my second account so I can post while I'm raiding launch week.

On that topic Bobzilla from the #JMTC irc room says there is apparently an EU sale for classic WoW for 5 bucks, and we're expecting one in the US region soon. Would be excellent to pick up an account for a cheap 5 bucks, and the free 30 days should cover the first week of 4.2 launch if you wish to have a banker on your second account like I will.

One last note: I am not sure about the 4.2 date, I more expect it too be the 28th, with the arena season *START* as opposed to end. Others have suggested even later due to the long weekend (whatever Americans celebrate on July 4th and Canada day). I'm planning for a June 21st, but wouldn't be surprised by a June 28th launch.

EDIT: I'm specifically refering to when Zarhym says this:

At that point we will determine who is eligible for the end-of-season rewards, a process that should take approximately one week. It's very important for players who feel that they may be eligible for Arena titles and/or the Vicious Gladiatorís Twilight Drake to refrain from transferring their characters to another realm or faction until after Season 9 ends. During the break between seasons, all Rated Battleground and Arena matches will be unavailable.
I doubt they would be rolling out a patch that week, and I think there is a precedent for season start as well.

If blizz doesn't do it themselves. Charscale Leg Armors seems like it will be useless in 4.2.

Bears should prefer the Charscale to the Drakehide, or is it the same?

Fine list, Sir! I stocked up alot more enchanting materials and volatiles ( i stockpiled almost 5 times your listed amount of volatiles and 3 times dust and essences). On the other side i got problems to get enough leather and truegold on my server.

      Volcanic Potion
      Potion of Tol'Vir
      Mystical Mana Potion

      Deathbloom Venom

      (specifically for transmuting)
      Heartblossom
      Cinderbloom

      Chimera's Eye

That's all I can remember right now.

Excellent summary of the mats required.

Another interested aspect of the patch is what kind of items will take a dive, maybe not on day 1, but as a consequence of the patch?
You mentioned would probably increase as a result of shuffling all the way to enchanting mats, but I think the lower vendor price of green gems will not only counteract this, but also generally make decrease in price.

The mats for crafted items and the gated items may actually take a dive (not a big one) in the beginning as a lot of stockpiles are being offloaded on AH, but the demans isn't there yet. So may it will be possible to snatch some of these items on the other side of the patch as well if the competition becomes too fierce.

I will personally focus on Enchanting and as these are easy to get and extremely safe investment. I suspect that will decrease significantly as FIRElands will probably contain an obscene amount of these.

I agree with sterling that that obsidium will increase. As enchanting mats and gem prices spike, people who are not really gold makers but know about the shuffle will try to cash in. The same thing was said about ore prices with 4.1(ore prices falling with nerfed cut gem prices) but at least on my realm we saw a pretty high spike for the first few days.

I really like this idea, the only suggestion I would make is instead of the actual potions(unless you get them pretty cheap) is just buying the herbs. This way you can diversify to the needs of the economy, or if it doesn't work out as you want, you can mill them and either trade in inks, make cards, sell the inks, or make glyphs.

Would be awesome if you could provide materials for individual professions. For example maybe someone doesn't have Leatherworking or Tailoring maxed out, or only wants to focus on Blacksmithing etc.

BTW it's quite odd that the crafts are only requiring elementium ore and not obsidium ore :/

Thx for this post! Another thing i'd like to add, which might be considerable to stockpile: Bufffood!

Regular Raiding-guilds will most likely all have their big fish feast already and will need lots of Fish within the first weeks, since there will be lots of wipes. Also don't forget ! Some ppl tend to eat those instead of the fish feast (gambling is addictive, isn't it? ^^), as i had to notice in our own guild when we did 25-men (now only 10-men). I guess it's worth to have at least 20-50 Stacks of Fortune Cookies (i sell 10 stacks / week usually on my server).

I haven't kept up with all the 4.2 rush of information, but I have at least noticed an increased demand for Volatile Fires and Truegold. Those two items are especially relevant for me.

I have an army of alchemists that transmute things to Volatile Air. It might be a good idea to start transmuting to Volatile Fires and Truegold instead. :P The question though is, how much of each to transmute? Right now I'm thinking of splitting things 50/50 between Volatile Fire and Truegold. But I don't have an idea of what the demand will be like for Volatiles vs Truegold once 4.2 hits.

      Your thoughts?

Keep an eye on the Volatile Air transmutes with enough people switching to trasnmute to fire the likelyhood of air spiking is very high.

Finally... my fourth alchemist is 73, only 2 more levels then it's done. I'm gonna continue producing Truegold with 2 of them. The third one will continue to produce Volatile Air. And the fourth one i guess will switch between Volatile Air and Truegold.

Ofc. i could try to transmute Volatile Fire too - but i already got 2k of them stockpiled, so i guess Air > Fire. And since the new Pet achievments are introduced, the need vor for Engineers () will rise too. So even with 4 transmute alchemists (and one Potion-alchemist m8 which sells his CD for 70g / day), i'm still way to short on alchis ^^

I got the 4 transmuters, and at times like this, with the patch in sight, I think I should make more Alchemists.....I do have two levelling toons that I can bring in soon, one at 74 and one at 62, and levelling is reasonably cheap for an alchemist, but am not rushing.

Nearly forgot, I am using 2 for truegold, and two on random volatiles (happy to collect them all so random is fine).

I still got some chars left which could become alchemists. Let's give 'em some time. My Main is Enchanting/Engineer, my Heal-char is Inscription/Tailor (and honestly - i don't want to give up any of those two professions right now!), and the other chars which are at least 75 are alchemists.

Btw, i bought some of the Spellthreads. Don't know if it's really worth it, since there's always some supply, but for two things i guess they will rise: Higher Volatile-prices, which results in higher producing-costs for Dreamcloth, and on the other hand the new bags / tailoring patterns which need a fair amount of DC itself. And even if they won't rise THIS much in price - you always need them, so it's not a high-risky investment.
