  • Patch 4.1 - Jewelcrafting Rush Round Two

Looks like Blizzard is adding sockets to the remaining crafted epic items! I was wondering why they hadn't added sockets to all crafted epics in 4.1. It makes sense now. They wanted to lessen the economic shock and spread out the changes (4.0.6 was a JC mess anyway). Expect another JC rush when the next patch hits. It won't be as lucrative as 4.0.6, of this I'm sure, but there's gold to be made!
    • Blacksmithing: Elementium Earthguard now gives +170 Strength, down from 190. now gives 117 Mastery Rating, down from 127. now gives 117 Hit Rating, down from 127. Now has a Blue Socket (Socket Bonus: +15 Stamina)
    • Blacksmithing: Elementium Stormshield now gives +170 Intellect, down from 190. Now gives +122 Spirit, down from 127. Now gives 112 Haste Rating, down from 127. Now has a Red Socket (Socket Bonus: +10 Intellect)
    • Leatherworking: Assassin's Chestplate now gives +321 Agility, down from 341. Now gives 173 Hit Rating, down from 183. Now gives 243 Critical Strike rating, down from 253. Now has a Red Socket (Socket Bonus: +10 Agility)
    • Leatherworking: Belt of Nefarious Whispers now gives +233 Agility, down from 253. Now gives 174 Hit Rating, down from 184. Now gives 134 Mastery Rating, down from 144. Now has a Red Socket (Socket Bonus: +10 Agility)
    • Leatherworking: Corded Viper Belt now gives +233 Agility, down from 253. Now gives 159 Critical Strike rating, down from 169. Now gives 159 Mastery rating, down from 169. Now has a Red Socket (Socket Bonus: +10 Agility)
    • Leatherworking: Dragonkiller Tunic now gives +231 Agility, down from 341. Now gives 249 Haste rating, down from 259. Now gives 163 Mastery rating, down from 173. Now has a Red Socket (Socket Bonus: +10 Agility)

Keep in mind the patch probably won't go live any time soon. Keep liquidating everything but !

Could be part of an ongoing teeter-totter process to keep crafted gear relevant as new content is rolled out.

Seeing as how this change doesn't make these epics more powerful than other 359s (more like it brings them up to par), I don't see how this will keep crafted gear relevant.

With 353s from heroics come 4.1, they will be even less relevant than before. Several k gold to go from a 333/346 -> 359 makes more sense than 353 -> 359, although alts will still be a primary customer.

"Leatherworking: Dragonkiller Tunic now gives +231 Agility, down from 341. " = -110

      Must be:

"Leatherworking: Dragonkiller Tunic now gives +321Agility, down from 341. " = -20 (the 2 and the 3 are reversed).

Some kind of of super cut for yellow gems would be nice..hehe... have already vendored 200 of them at less then 4G each. The reds are another business - can hardly keep them in stock as it is to day, and more slots will just increase the demand..

Remember that the new instances require 346 i-lvl, so conversely the crafted epic market may see a small surge if people want to hit that cap quickly/easily to allow them entry to the newer heroics.

I'm waiting on a Yellow cut to resurrect the market, but it appears Crit isn't the all star it was in Wrath. I've had better luck with Haste (Quick), but only marginally better.

This is great to see! I'm not going to pick up the recipes right away on my LW, but I'm going to keep an eye out for cheap prices. The belts and leather chest have decent speculation potential.

On top of that, the sockets do make this gear more powerful, when you take into account the socket bonus.

But it's still not extraordinarily good, and people are obtaining more and more raid epics. I wouldn't rely on that too much.

Only if your gemming needs can be worked around them, if you say, stack intellect except for 2 orange gems, more yellow sockets are worthless as the little combat rating doesn't compare to sticking a red gem in it(using Holy Pallies as an example)

@Xisinthis - Quite true. The socket colors on these seemed appropriate for their classes, though.

@Vayaz - The second poster commented that these pieces were not any better than current 359s. My comment was correcting his statement. If you checkout wowhead, the quickest gearing paths for waist and chest for many leather-wearing classes is crafted epic 359 gear. With the added socket bonus (red socket, agility bonus), these pieces outpace world drops. Depending on what happens with Chaos Orbs, we'll see how viable these are.

I'm pretty big on min-max'ing, but I haven't grabbed my T11 chest. I was holding my breath when I read these PTR notes and saw the socket added to the - I had just picked up , and couldn't remember if I had vendored the Assassin's Chestplate. I was happy when I saw I had saved it - it will be better than the world drop come 4.1. Still, T11 will be much better, and I can't imagine not having my full set before 4.1.
