  • 1500+ Gold Per Hour in Silithus

I've never been a huge proponent of farming. As the old saying goes, why work for your money, when your money can work for you? Admittedly, some farming spots/routes/techniques are sometimes worthwhile, and I'm the first to jump on the bandwagon when these techniques are "discovered". Today I'll discuss a neat little technique I stumbled upon, and I'll show you how you can take advantage of it.

Let's kick things off with a few snatch list items:

Ever seen these before? Most players haven't. These recipes were long forgotten in my books. They were introduced in the Silithus patch, when your father was just a toddler (ok, maybe a few years later).

But more importantly - have you seen them in auctioneer scans? This is a very important question - if your "seen" count is high, it means someone is farming them on your server. This severely devaluates the recipes and you may want to reconsider farming them. In my case, only the Darkrune Breastplate had been seen in the past 5 months (once)!

Just how rare are these recipes? It depends. TUJ shows several and , but not a single across all realms (100+ markets), indicating some high valuation there.

    The Scoop

So, where do they drop? They're looted from , a reward from a repeatable quest in Sillithus: [quest]still believing[/item]. The quest requires you to turn in 10 . In return, questgiver [npc]hermit Ortell[/npc] (see map) mails you , which have the following loot table:
    • 6% 400g
    • 6% 400g
    • 6% 500g
    • 4% 400g
    • 1.5% 1100g
    • 1.5% 900g

For a whopping 25% chance to obtain a recipe per turn-in. You'll notice I appended some values to these recipes. These are the prices at which I've moved the recipes (1-2 per week). At higher prices, they tend to move much slower. If you want, you can sell them for even cheaper, at which point they should fly off the shelves, but keep in mind that you are cutting into your own profits when doing so. If you ask me, thereís little point in doing this Ė sell them slowly in the months to come and into Cataclysm. My approach was to list the recipes for a week at inflated prices, and do a Wal-Mart rollback to convince all the Auctioneer users that my prices are good deals (but they really are!).

All told, the final value of : ~110g.

    Farming Strategy

How many bags could you farm per hour? I went out and farmed the texts myself, and here were the results (1 hour):

    • x 286 = 80g
    • x 18 = 90g
    • x 18 = 90g
    • x 17 = 85g
    • Disenchanted green items = 30g
    • Raw coin = 28g
    • Misc loot = 10g
    • x 140 = x 14 = 1540g

For a grand total of 1953 gold per hour. Note that this was a full circuit: it includes the time required to run to Ortell, turn in the texts, disenchant items, run back to Cenarion Hold and mail everything out. The Cowl, Mantle and Robes tend to sell at first listing (Iíve been moving them successfully at 7g each).

There is one huge disadvantage to this whole route; itís not sustainable. You canít farm here for days on end since there isnít a market large enough to support so many recipes. You could cut your prices way down and move them all, at which point your profit would be close to 1000gph. But in this case, you might as well just sell the texts at the auction house.

A few tips on farming . They drop off a variety of mobs, notably:
    • [npc]twilight avenger[/npc]: Camp 1 and 2.
    • [npc]twilight geolord[/npc]: Camp 1 and 2.
    • [npc]twilight stonecaller[/npc]: Camp 1 and 2.
    • [npc]twilight prophet[/npc]: Patrols between 1 and 2, and north of camp 3.
    • [npc]twilight flamereaver[/npc], [npc]twilight master[/npc], [npc]twilight overlord[/npc], [npc]twilight marauder[/npc]: Camp 3.

I strongly suggest completely ignoring camp 3. I prefer alternating between camp 1 and 2, running a tight circle in the center of the camp and rounding up all mobs. The Avengers are melee, and the Stonecallers will eventually run out of mana and go melee as well. The Geolords must be handled separately. The Prophet drops 8-11 texts, and is on a 30 minute respawn timer. She spawns just east of camp 1, and patrols to camp 2. The second prophet spawns south of camp 3, and is on a 60+ minute respawn timer. Farming these is pretty mindless, you are at no risk to die and it's just a giant loot fest.

*Tip: Use Loot Filter to reduce downtime.

Alternatively, you can simply buy s from the auction house and turn them in. The texts are valued at about 6g on my server (10k+ seen), meaning you can easily double your cash with Decoded text turn-ins.

Remember, the profitability of this route depends heavily on the volume of recipes you wish to sell. If this goes "viral" (doubt it) the recipes could become somewhat common. In fact I'm very curious to see how this article will affect the supply of Darkrune and Runed Stygian recipes throughout severs. Will be monitoring TUJ!

Well written guide with some very nice original content. When I saw the title I must admit I did wonder if this was a " are selling for 50g each on my server, at 80 you can farm them in minutes!" post :P

Was a pleasant surprise and I'm going to give it a shot since my Auctioneer Data (only a few months old buy still) hasn't seen any of them yet.

One thing to note, the [ item ] [ /item ] tags don't work on the homepage news. Could try the normal wowhead links or something

Thanks for reminding me of that, I added a little tidbit about essence of air just to troll my beloved readers (forum version only).

Its funny you posted this; I had done some of this farming while waiting for my HH queue to pop this morning and was wondering if it would be worth it to farm for a while. Looking at your calculations I would say it is worth it.

Very nice guide. Its rare that I find farming guides that are actually worth reading.

What's the demand for this stuff right now? Is this worth doing regularly, the way ZG is right now?

So i farmed this place for a good 40min and when i went to Ortell to get the quest and hand it in, he didnt have a quest to give me. All he said was "Leave at once Stranger! I have no business with you." Do i need to do a quest before this one or is it horde only?

I've had 1-2 sales per week over the last month, although selling rate has been falling. The more your farm, the less valuable they become. Worst case, you can sell the texts you farm for 1200 GPH anyway.

I farmed for about 8 hours total and don't plan on going back any time soon.

      There's a follow up quest starting at [npc]geologist larksbane[/npc] I believe.

Cool, I'll check the AH when I get home to see if someone else is already on this and if not I'll give it a go.

quick question though, why tackle the geolords separatly?

Everything else will eventually run up to you and you can AoE them down. The geolords will stand at about 15 yards, attacking you from range.

I think because they have the ranged attack to throw rocks, so they are a bit tougher to round up.

Edit: Oops, forgot to check the next page before posting.

I'd been farming up the tailoring patterns and selling any doubles or blacksmithing ones on the AH over the past 2 months. They were selling for about 150-200g each and normally took a couple of days to sell. I was putting each up one at a time.

Well written guide, kept relatively short whilst not losing any of the informative elements.

Is this still as good as it used to be? None on my server has posted these recently.
E: Can't seem to find the quest that leads to it, I guess I will just have to do them all!
      E: Got it!

I can confirm this works! I was slightly skeptical at first, and as such I spent about an hour farming the texts.

As soon as the bags came in the mail, I opened em all up, discarded the trash, and sent the 2 recipes I got to my banker and added them to TSM to list for 700g each.

The first one sold within a couple days. The other took a week or so to sell, but, it did sell.

I don't recommend using this method as a main source for cash, unless you're just getting started in the market.
      Then, it's great quick cash.

As someone who is trying to incorporate multiple income methods instead of relying on a few nest eggs, this fits in quite well.
I will be revisiting Silithus for more!

Before i start, Thank you for this great guide.

As soon as i saw this i wanted to try it out. I searched the AH and found 200x [Encrypted Twilight Text] for 880g.
Since you mentioned that you get 110g a bag on average, this was an easy deal.
I did the neccesary quests and reached Hermit Ortell. Turned in the 200 texts and received the bags next moring( The waiting time is 12 hours btw). I only received three recipes : [Pattern: Runed Stygian Belt] , [Pattern: Runed Stygian Leggings] and [Plans: Darkrune Gauntlets]. Since i didnt need the money already and there were none of them on the AH for the last three months i decided to put them on the AH for a much higher price. The patterns both 2.5k each and the plans for 6k. I sold the Plans on the second day and both the patterns on the thirth day. So i was wondering wouldnt it be much more profitable to sell these recipes for much higher prices? Since the collectors who want these recipes are willing to pay alot more then your stated prices.

Sorry for my bad englisch btw not a native speaker.

Well, you have to keep a few things in mind:

      1. When I wrote this guide, TUJ medians were lower and have since inflated. I'd say double the prices now, at least.
      2. One of the fundamental rules of goblineering: always list things for astronomical prices at first, to see if someone has been on the lookout for your goods.
      3. 2nd fundamental rule: there is never a 'going price'; sell for as much as you can.

If you keep farming you will notice that the recipes won't sell for that much consistently. You will need to reduce your price to sell at a decent rate. My prices were merely a suggestion, I'm glad you did your own thinking and listed for more .

Edit: Adjusting for inflation, the GPH in Silithus is more like 5000, I should update this thread :P.

This feels like the type of post that could stay more relevant over time with the TUJ tag.
