  • Shady Business - Cross Faction Trading!

Entrepreneurs often rely on cross-faction trading to generate steady and reliable cashflow. Cross-faction trading involves purchasing certain items from faction A, and flipping them to faction B at - hopefully large - profits. Identifying which items should be flipped is a challenge in itself, at least for beginners.

Lucky for you, I've compiled a list of recipes, pets, and other items that are always (knock on wood) profitable flips. Once you've established a strong market position on either side, you can start flipping less intuitive items such as , , and .

*Cool factoid: Our very own Wind Trader Tessie discovered and pioneered the Savory Deviate Delight flip, years ago.

Profitable flips can also be found in trade goods, such as enchanting mats, gems, and leather. was very profitable for a while, where I was earning about 300g from A -> H. Monitoring both sides of the economy can be handy, as it allows you to predict market trends. How? A good rule of thumb is that higher population economies will react to changes much faster, so if you see an item plummet in value on the Alliance side, the Horde market should follow suit within 1-3 weeks. The inverse applies if the Horde is the dominant faction on your server. Also keep in mind that Auctioneer has an arbitrage module that is a great help in identifying cross-faction item candidates.

Back in the ATU days, we spoke of "item price resilience". The idea is that, to a certain extent, an item will "resist" changes in pricing due to the prominence of addons dictating item prices. Even in very similar Horde vs Alliance economies, you may see noticeable item price deltas, simply because the items in question have had a steady "going price" of XYZ as dictated by Auctioneer. Identify these trends, and be the one to profit from them!

Anyway, enough of that, on with the gravy!

The Barbaric Iron recipe quests require several crafted Blacksmithing items. Quoting Toksletok from Allakhazam:

    The order of crafting is:
    2x
    2x
    4x
    2x
    2x
    4x
    2x (*)

(*) The plans for Solid Iron Maul are sold as limited supply by [npc]Muuran[/npc] (Ghostwalker Post, Desolace) and [npc]Jazzrik[/npc] (Badlands).

    Total list of mats is:
    150x
    104x
    12x
    12x (=24x )
    4x (=12x )
    16x
    4x
    4x
    2x
(*) Mats sold by blacksmith supply npc not included.
I'm in the process of sending these "kits" over to my horde account. I'm guessing most Blacksmiths have yet to complete this quest chain, so finding candidates to trade in the recipes should be easy. The kits themselves could be worth up to 500g, so make sure that your parnter understands and acknowledges the trade agreement prior to trading the kits. This way, GMs can help you get your kits back if you get scammed (confirmed on WoW forums). Alternatively, you can keep a eye out for the pre-crafted items themselves, I imagine some power-levelers would occasionally throw them up in bulk, for dirt cheap.

Traveling around and stocking up on the recipes is a tedious task. Once set up, the system generates consistent and reliable cashflow, especially if you have no competitors. This list is great for starters, but there are several more items that reliably produce profit. If you know of any, please do share!

That's all for now folks, Sterling beaming out!

Cross faction Tournament pets remain a good flip for me. I'm still making 30-50% on those. People always object with the "Neutral AH is cheaper!". This is practically a non-issue here, the Neutral prices are sketchy at best and people aren't exactly flying to them just to shop.

Anytime prices dip for me on certain things, I always check pricing and availability on both sides and can transfer excess inventories. You have to maintain two accounts to make this work efficiently, and it's best to guild your characters so you can use the bank and not have to wait an hour for mail.

Taking advantage of farmers is also a solid reason to do this. More often than not the various farmers are on a rotation between horde and alliance. These people drive prices down so it allows you to truly make excessive profits when you pass them through.

And another thought, Item Price Resilience is actually "inelasticity" in economics. Your attempt to change something but it returns to it's previous point.

Don't forget the quest [quest] Dig Rat Stew[/quest] , which rewards .

(The recipe that appears keeps showing the bind on picked up one, however the one rewarded from the quest is BoE)

This one isn't bad either, but [npc]Dealer Rashaad[/item] may drive you out of the market. He's a Wind Trader, after all.

19 bracket Alli twinks love . They may not sell as well as they used to, but they can be found from [npc]Eralan[/npc] in Ghostlands (limited supply). I buy them on Horde from the AH occasionally, and have sold them for 50g a pop on Alliance.

Has anyone ever tried selling the quest reward patterns across faction? What sort of profit can I expect? I've managed to pick up 3 for 50s or less. I'm sure I can make a lot more than that by transferring them. Suggestions?

Just sold one of those for 250g. 50000% profit isn't too shabby.

The Blood Elf Bandit Mask is one of my personal favorites. I have one I throw on my low-level helmless alts, but the others I've gotten through farming the Blood Elf Bandit sell nicely on my server for around 500-600g!

Has anyone given the Argent tournament pets some thoughts?

From time to time I have picked you pets like (and all the others) which cost 40 . I have sold most of them at 2.000G (cross faction) And have been buying at 4-600G.

I still have 3-4 up for sale at 2k each, but thinking about taking them down and wait for further information.

As I understand it the area are going away in Cata, but what about these pets?

The Argent Tournament is NOT going away in Cataclysm. You will still be able to go do those dailies for Champion's Seals and buy more pets. There will be next to nobody doing it, however.

Does anyone have any idea if the Barbaric Iron quests are still in the game? I don't have an easy way to test. If someone has a horde blacksmith who hasn't done them, just go to Orokk Omosh in Orgrimmar and see if he has a quest for you.

What level blacksmith does it have to be? I can level one real quick if you need.
    1. calianna's Avatar

Needs to be level 30 with blacksmithing of (I think) 150. My horde alt is level 21 now, just haven't had time to level him. And I'm going to trade 4 sets of the patterns.

I dont know if you got the answer, but most likely you did, since its a while back you asked I just did all those BS quests, so yes, they are still in the game.

I did get my answer. I've done three sets since. I have all the mats for a 4th set but haven't bothered to find someone to do it.

Ahh, good good. How do you get rid of them btw? I transfer them to allyside and put each up for 2.5k gold. They've only been @ ah for 3-4 days now, so I realize I need to be more patient ofc, but I just wonder what price you are aiming to get for yours?
    1. calianna's Avatar

I priced them at 5k initially and never got a bite. I sold all 3 at 2.5k per pattern. I expected to sell all 5 at one time but that hasn't happened. The next set, I will probably move back up to 5k each.

      True, however...
The recipe vendor at the Inn in the Old Town section of Stormwind also sells this (and many other) recipes. All of which are BOE.
