I don't know if I'm the only one, but I have a love of Android. I love mods, roms and just general customizing them in general. I have used a program called logmein in the past for remote access to my home PC from my work PC. It has always worked well, and with the addition of an Android App, It became a mission of mine to get WoW running on my phone.
As long as you can run logmein, I'm pretty sure your phone should be able to handle this. The phone itself isn't doing much of the work, it is all being streamed over wifi or 3g. So FPS should be dependent on your internet speed and not the ram/processor of your phone.
You can find logmein here https://secure.logmein.com/
Logmein has multiple versions that vary in price.
- Logmein Pro – Their full featured Client. However, I have found the free version to meet my needs. Pro allows remote printing, sound and file sharing.
- Logmein Ignition – The Ignition I use is the android application, and is 29.95. There are also some other options for remote access from phones, though I have no experience with them. Some I believe are cheaper.
- Logmein Free – This is the client I run on my home computers that I access remotely.
- Logmein Hamachi – They have some other services such as this one, which I haven't used. I won't go explaining this one or the others as it's not used in this tutorial.
Heres how to get Logmein Set up and running
- On the computer you want to access remotely, go to https://secure.logmein.com/ and sign up
- Log in and click on the Add Computer Button.
- Check mark Logmein Free.
- This will start a download. Install it on to your PC.
- At the end you will need to set up a password to access this computer remotely.
You can repeat this to add more computers if needed. You should now have Logmein set up on your main WoW computer.
The next step is to download Logmein Ignition for your Android or Iphone. You will log in to the account you previously made. This will then bring up your list of computers that you added earlier.
Here are a few pointers in getting logmein to work correctly.
- Have WoW already up and running in windowed mode. This helps as sometimes logmein has a hard time with things that run in fullscreen. You will get a black screen with just the WoW cursor.
- You can also turn the graphic all the way down to help with performance.
- When you first start the Phone application, it should resize your resolution to around 800x600. I find it works a bit better if you keep it at this resolution. You can go for higher, but it's not going to run as smoothly.
- Run in greyscale. This and resolution can be changed in the options menu. Greyscale gives you the best FPS. However, it is sometimes better to run in low quality mode with color as it is easier to see.
When using logmein on your phone, it is extremely hard to move around. I have found that using /targetexact macros coupled with mapping “interact with target” to keybinds works wonders. I will give some detailed instructions for the AH in the Valley of Wisdom in Orgrimmar.
- Go into Options > Interface > Mouse and Check “Click to Move”.
- Go into your key bindings and bind “Interact with Target”. I bind it to two keys myself, one for when I'm remotely accessing my hope PC from work on my work PC, and one for when I'm on my phone. I use “\” for my work PC, and “(“ for my phone. You may want to customize this for your own phones keyboard. I used “(“ because my phone has that button close to my number buttons.
- Create a macro for targeting the auctioneer and drag it to your 1-9 buttons. The macro needed is /targetexact Auctioneer Sowata . This couple with “Interact with Target” is amazing. You can be standing at mailbox, Click target macro, click interact macro, and instantly run towards Auctioneer and open it up.
- Create a macro to target the Stable Master named Lonto. He stands right next to the mailbox and is easily close enough to click on the mailbox. The macro is /targetexact Lonto. Clicking this macro and then interact macro will cause you to run from AH to him, where the mailbox is in clicking range.
- Next is create this macro /targetexact Tatepi . This is the name of the Banker in close range of the AH and Mailbox.
- Next is the most tricky step. It is the steps used to select the guild bank. First we are going to create the following macro /targetexact Isashi . Now, before you go and use this macro, let me explain it. This macro is used in the following steps needed to reach the guild bank
- Use your Auctioneer macro to get to the Auctioneer.
- Use your new /targetexact Isashi macro. This will make you run towards the hut to the right of the guild bank. You will get stopped by the “General Goods & trade Supplies” sign. This is good and what we want.
- When you are stopped by the sign, use your /targetexact Tatepi macro to run at the Banker.
- When running towards Banker, you get stuck on a box. However, this box is right next to the Guild Bank, and makes it easily accessible.
- This may sound like a lot, but when in actual use, takes just a matter of seconds to get from AH to guild bank. For me, this is what the keypresses look like.
- Press 1 then press ( and let it run to auctioneer
- Press 3 then press ( and let it run to sign,
- Press 2 then press ( and run to the run to box.
- Click Guild Bank.
- Takes maybe 5-10 seconds total depending on where you started.
Now, once you have all of this configured and set up, you should now have access to AH, Mailbox, Bank and Guild Bank all remotely on your phone. Being able to move freely between the 4 with nothing but macros.
I haven't been on Alliance since Pre-Cata, so I'm unsure where this would work best for Alliance. I did try to set it up some in Shattrath, and it worked decent, but had a few snags with the guild bank due to the layout. Required a slight turn to the right for it to in view of clicking. When I get more time I plan on working on an Alliance spot.
Now, when it comes to using the actual Auction House, I HIGHLY recommend using this method with TSM. It makes life a million times easier.
A few odd and ends pointers.
- When clicking on the mailbox, there is a little icon at the bottom of you phones screen the looks like a mouse. Click that to alternate from left and right clicks
- To click and drag using logmein, You double tap, but on second tap you hold and drag.
- You have a few options for keyboards. I have not been able to try this on a phone with a hardware keyboard, so I can't give opinions on it, but I have tried both the logmein keyboard and the Windows Onscreen keyboard. They both work and I use both. Using the logmenin keyboard doesn't allow for using WASD for movement very well. So when I need that I use the Windows one. It can also be nice as it can be set at bottum of the screen and be out of your view when needed
- Use your pinch to zoom in and out. It works really well with the mobile app. Often I find it easier to read small stuff on my phone than on my work PC because of the amount you can zoom in on the phone.
- The logmein keyboard can be brought up by clicking the keyboard icon. Also, to access buttons such as ESC, click the button with F1 and F2 buttons at the top of the screen while you have the keyboard up.
I know this guide isn't for everyone, but in my previous post it seemed that there was some interest in seeing a more fleshed out guide. I plan to have some videos added in the future, only issue is finding a camera, as my phone is my only camera.
Let me know if I missed anything or need to better explain anything.
Now, all this being said, there is nothing better than being suckered into going to the grocery store with the Wife, and while there, canceling all undercut auctions, reposting, checking for snatches, resale and disenchant tabs in auctioneer. =)
Here is a Video of it on my Ipod Touch. I wish i could have filmed it on my droid X, as the keyboard on it doesnt take up as much room and you can see everything better on the larger screen. However, my only video camera happens to be my Droid X, which makes that an issue lol. The footage is Blurry, and the actual game is clear when using logmein. For some reason filming something on another phone made it blurry on my Droid X. I think you can see enough to get an idea of how this looks though.
This is a video of how it looks when remotely viewing from another PC. I use this method when at work and its a slow day. This method is free and costs nothing. So even if you don't have a droid/iphone or the money to pay for the application, this is still something everyone can do. This works on netbooks and any PC that is too old to play WoW.
EDIT: Sorry about the bad formatting of the Numbering. I typed this up in wordpad and can't seem to get the formatting right when pasting into this post.
