Stepping into a New World

I have never been one to do the whole blogging thing, so this may come out more as a personal record of what works and what doesn't for me, but this site and community have been so wonderfully helpful, I hope to pay that forward, even if just a little bit.

The Road to Here

I have been playing WoW for years and have always dabbled in the auction house a bit. A couple of years ago, I started to get more serious about making gold, but was still just barely a blip on the radar; not quite a full goblin yet. I managed to hover around 40-60k and was ecstatic! While I couldn't buy things like the TCG mounts, it was a nice feeling to know that I could drop a few thousand gold on 310 flying, a rare chanting pattern, or even a silly, fun item that I just wanted. I could always have the top enchants and gems in my gear, plenty of flasks and potions, and could buy the mats for Fish Feasts if I didn't feel like farming. I was comfortable.

Shortly after the start of Cata, though, a combination of burnout, drama, and just sheer boredom caused me to take a short break from the game. When I came back a few months later, I decided to do something completely different.

I started from scratch on a roleplaying realm where I didn't know anyone.

I started getting settled there, applying what I had learned over the years and becoming accustomed to the fairly different economy there. While not everything went according to plan (an alt with dual crafting professions was NOT supposed to be my first 85), I had started to make some gold and some friends. I also decided that I wanted to do more than just scratch the surface of the AH game, and in my quest to find out how to do that, I found the Consortium. Now I am just shy of 150k gold and working on fully establishing my army of alts with all the professions covered.

What I currently have capped:
Tailoring/Enchanting (Mage)
Herbalism/Alchemy-Transmute (Priest)
Jewelcrafting/Mining (DK)

My rogue is finally in Northrend with Skinning and Mining. I will be soon dropping Mining on my DK in favor of Inscription.
Next will probably be my true dual gatherer, a druid, allowing my rogue to drop Mining for Leatherworking (which will make much more sense for her, story-wise).
And lastly is my baby hunter with Mining and Engineering (I just realized that I have a lot of miners ), who will probably become a Blacksmith eventually.

It's been an interesting journey so far, and it has still barely begun. I look forward to seeing where it goes from here.

Good luck. You're in that really cool place where experience/learning really come together. I'm envious, I feel like I haven't learned anything new or had any fresh experiences in quite some time.

Keep mining on DK or level a druid for Herbalism+Mining, imo.

Good read. Interesting to see what other people have going on and they got started. I wish you luck on your journey.
