Re-Selling BOE Epics that you want to use

I haven't really found the time to make any decent contributions lately, but I thought I would just stick with small simple tips that new players might find useful rather than nothing at all.

For some reason in WoW, I'm very lucky when it comes to rare drops. Legendaries, mounts, and especially BoE epic world drops. This is how I've learned to benefit even more from that as well as to practice my flipping skills:

Scenario: You are about to hit level 90 when suddenly a decent 476 ilvl BoE epic drops that is perfect for your class and spec. Sweet! You just got a headstart in the gearing up process.

But, my advice is to have a little bit of patience. Head to the auction house, see what it's market value is (let's say between 12,000 and 17,000 gold). If there are none of it available, or only 1-2 similar ones, put your epic up for something a bit outlandish, 25,000 or 30,000 gold and see if it sells.

If it sells, you just made 30,000 gold that you can most likely use to purchase that same item again about a week later for it's actual market value. That way you effectively gain a new BoE epic to use as well as made a bonus 10,000 gold profit.

Yes it's small change in the big picture, and it requires a bit of patience, but it's worth while just to think about. Getting a luck drop combined with some free gold is bound to make you feel good.

You would be surprised at what people pay for items. 30k really isn't that much gold either. People were paying that much back in Cata for BoE epics.
The gold figures are from TSM Accounting Sales Summary with Price Per Item, Total Sale Price and date Last Sold.

Below you can see my 40k gold BoE ring that dropped for me today under my char name Duskshroud.

Another example would be @Argalin 's Flipping MoP 80-85 Blues

Here is a screenshot of my spreadsheet that I've been using to keep track of all my flips since he convinced me to give it a try:

    • 151 items bought for a total of 97.7k gold.
    • 124 items sold for a total of 260.5k gold.
    • Profit from those 124 items sold is sitting at 180.5k gold.
    • Overall profit from all items bought so far is 162.8k gold.
    • Estimated 50k gold worth of stock to still sell.
    • Overall estimated profit is 230.5k gold.

I spent probably less than 10 minutes each day searching for flips, collecting gold and reposting. I use a post-and-forget TSM setting that posts at 120% or so market value markup regardless of if someone else has undercut me. Minimal effort. Yet I'm still making easy 1-8k profits per item.

I've done this from the very beginning of my gold making and it can be very rewarding. Basically anything that I can use "soon" get's put up for double the price. If it sells before I can use it, at that price... great. I'll give you two very recent examples. I'm coming back to the game late, mid-MoP. My tailor is working his way to level 90. I see the pattern for Imperial Silk Gloves up for very cheap so I grab it and post it for double what it should be. My tailor is still not level 90 but I've done this to the point that I have 2 of these patterns up on the AH right now and have sold 1 for more than I have in all three. Same thing with Murderer Gloves on my LW. I have 1 on the AH right now and have already sold 1 for much more than I have in both I've bought.

I'm a very patient seller though.

You are right, and this can also work in the reverse when deliberately looking for items to flip.

Look for items that your characters can use or can use in the future. Buy the item, try and flip it, if it doesn't sell well then you just bought yourself a nice little upgrade and can reward your hard gold making efforts.
