    "Extinct" Recipes

So I was taking a quick peek in one of my guild banks and noticed I had 2x [Pattern: Hide of the Wild], 1x [Pattern: Chromatic Cloak] and 1x [Pattern: Shifting Cloak]. I know these are no longer attainable and therefore pretty valuble to collectors, however even after looking at TUJ I have no idea how to go about pricing them. On my server horde side there wasn't even a market price for the Shifting Cloak and the EU averages for the three recipes vary a bit.

I'm not put off by relisting these for a long time until they sell, I just want to make sure I get my gold's worth from them so to speak. If you had/have these recipes at which price would you be willing to let them go?
    soon.

You are in a difficult position. Because its like what is a Batman first appearence worth $1 million or $2 million, its only worth the amount someone will pay.
I would start talking to the major crafters on server. Just see who the big leatherworkers are, talk in trade chat, to the big honchos..
    good luck.
I have some stuff that I just know won't sell cause I can't find the right buyer, so I know your situation.

Your probably better off advertising in the wow forums under the TCG thread. Quite a few collectors lurk there and you can probably find a buyer there. Tcg stuff and the like have a thread in the achievements and guild advancement forums. Also wouldn't hurt to try the profession forums. Maybe Just make a post that you have them and will sell them and see what offers you may get. Might give you a ball park on price. From my experience better luck with this route than the AH.

Well maybe i overlook something here so please correct me if im wrong but while you do your research and your advertising. What stops you from listing those items for an insanely high price ? The fee for listing should not be very high right ? If someone really buy it you got your gold, minus the auction house cut. If no one buys it, those who look for the recipes will at least know you got them, maybe you get some offers.
If it sold, it was too cheap.

I'd also list them at an unfathomably high price, ie. 100k+. From my experience, people looking for these patterns will notice when they go up on the AH and contact you about negotiating a price. It may even spark interest from others who see the pattern listed for such an extravagant price and do some research to find out why. Barking in trade about selling patterns that are no-longer available in game may also spark some interest. But your best bet would be to find out what people on your server are willing to pay for the plan, then ask for more.

The people who are interested in this product already are aware of its attributes and are actively looking for it. What was most helpful for me was posting in the achievements forums stating that I was looking for a certain item. In this case you are posting that you are selling a certain item. I wouldn't post it in its own thread though; just put it inside the TCG mount threads where people put all the other high value items (except for like Thistle Tea recipe which is one of the rarest items in the game).

Those sorts of things are highly server dependent. There has been someone listing those patterns on my server for 900g each since they went extinct. He may have had multiples, but I don't think he's sold a single one.

Since he keeps listing the patterns it doesn't seem rare to the server population probably.

I have a few of them too, and they just don't go on my realm at 15/20k price range. I'll try to post in a forum about them to see if I can attract someone.

From my experience, rare Enchanting formulas are usually the ones that sell a bit quicker than rare recipes for any other profession. Enchanting is one of those high-profile professsions that many players have and for some reason is a hotter area for collectors. I've had multiple rare Enchanting formulas over the last year and most of them sell within a week or so. Other rare recipes, for other professions, can take me two weeks to two months to sell, if not longer.

I've found Engineering schematics to be the slowest to sell of them all. As of late, I've had a tendency to shy away from most "deals" on rare schematics unless they are a REALLY good deal. Takes too long to sell and after awhile, it just isn't as worth it to me anymore.

Rare Alchemy recipes have a tendency to sell relatively quickly too, from experience. Leatherworking is 50/50... some sell fast, others take forever. I have a [Pattern: Hide of the Wild] as well and been trying to sell for about a month. I had one right before that and sold it within a week though. So it's very sporatic.... as is the case with most rare items really.
