If that is true, 68 days to research all the cuts is still faster than today's method. If there's a excess of blue rares on the AH the rarely used one, then you can research cheaply.
My understanding is that it is one daily per day of all colors combined and no limit on SoH.
So it looks like getting non-meta cuts via the daily will be relegated to alts and people not serious about JC. If you grind for dozens of hours you can get all the non-meta patterns in September/early Ocober. Dailies means December.
The "cutting profit" (cut price minus uncut price) will be so much higher in September than December. Almost all of your profit from a cut over this expansion may be in the time when mostly SoH grinders have the cut. My guess is since it will be so much quicker to get cuts than the cata system where the dailies mattered, the end-game of low profit where a lot of people have each pattern will start much sooner in MoP than Cata.
If meta-gems are world drops, then my JC alt doing the daily in town will not get one while the JC who kills PandaPigs for 70 hours will have a much better chance. (Worgen Blood DK JC/skinner seems best for this.)
So how does the spirit of harmony work? Does it teach you a random gem, or do you specify color? Obviously if you can specify color red/orange will be your best bet to save gold. That brings up the order of gems to discover.
My first thought is reds first, but that may not be the best idea. Everybody will be doing reds first, and will essentially be burning three of the most expensive gems in the game to do so. Oranges would be my choice, but there are a lot of cuts, and unlike the reds- a lot of them will be mostly unwanted. What about blues? 4 cuts and then you will be using the cheapest gems to get other cuts, but then you are wasting your early to market advantage on blue gems. Yuck.
I need to find out more about how this works to plan out my strategy.
I just don't see people using SoH's to learn recipes faster. It seems like they are much more valuable in other professions. You can learn the key red patterns in 3-5 days. After those three, I think most people will just learn whatever color they have available.
That's true, if you don't have Eng, BS, LW, Tailor, or Inscription as your second profession, you won't have as many uses for them. However, you'll still have [item lang=mop]82774[/item] and [item lang=mop]82775[/item] which I think would be more worthwhile.
Spirits of harmony are also BoE; I assume the demand would make selling any you found much more worthwhile than hording them in an effort to try and learn an extra (completely) random gem pattern when the discovery rate is already so accelerated. Although I guess that depends on how common they turn out to be on live servers.
