Some more information today:
The 535 Trinkets require 50k Timeless coins.
They added 476 weapons for 10k (one hand) / 20k (two-hand) Timeless coins
It's starting to sound awfully grindy....
(Information shameless summarized from: http://www.mmo-champion.com/content/...den-of-Shaohao).
So, if the gear ends up being a big grind to get ahold of much of it, that could help keep the crafted 496 gear from dropping in price too much. Some players may still opt to buy the crafted gear instead of grinding for hours upon hours to get the Timeless Isle gear.
Aside from grinding, there's also the problem of getting coins when undergeared. I remember walking into Isle of Thunder with around 480 iLvl and just chain-drinking healing pots and still dying every now and then.
I wasn't the only one either, the first few weeks after patch I could not make Healing Pots fast enough to AH. Battlefield barren's was more collaborative / leech-friendly so it wasn't as hard to tag along with a group when undergeared, plus the zones were easy to pick at if you were farming a specific resource.
It sounds like Timeless Isle is going to be more like Isle of Thunder, so hopefully it'll be hard enough to encourage people to use consumables and the other crafted goods rather than gearing up completely via grinding.
A few things of note:
1. The tokens are BoA. You can run around and kill things, loot chests, etc on your mail (say grinding out the 50k for a trinket or an upgrade token). Any of the armor tokens you get can then be mailed to alts and sending them to them.
2. You get more coins than you would imagine from killing things. A single elite (many of which hurt very badly, but others only tickle) drop 200, normal mobs 50-60 and you can chain pull them. The high values aren't as grindy as you think.
3. TI is more like barrens than IoT. If you group up, you can loot any mobs your group kills for coins. You will need groups for the big event bosses (think commanders).
4. The Celestial Tournament is on the isle. This is a big money making opp. since it takes 30 lvl 25s to even participate (and then 12 weeks of participation to get all the celestial pets). These pets are great models and will likely make even non-pet battlers want them, but the idea of leveling 30 pets to 25 will be daunting. Selling level 25 pets (which you can easily get 2-3 of in a day with the Pandaran pet trainer dailies) will be very lucrative, imo, even if the pets you sell aren't super uncommon.
I've noticed that a lot more level 25 pets are being sold now then there were a month ago. I've also noticed people selling pet leveling services too.
Wewt. I am still selling 496 items. <3
Looted 3 golden chests this week on one toon.
There's a bug that's giving out Haunting Spirits from the Timeless Curios too... so that's jump starting my foray into 522 gear too (I don't have any 496 patterns =().
