    Cataclysm, 4.0.3 and 4.0.3a?

Information seems to be trickling out now about how things are going to go down. It's getting more, rather than less, confusing about when certain things like ZG, Insane, etc are going to become unavailable. One thing is clear, however; we have plenty to do to keep us busy.

Also, we will need to be ready to move quick on money-making opportunities during this transition phase. In thinking about the Scourge Invasion, the main thing I wish I had done was get my hands on dozens of . I'll be keeping my eye out for something similar during this transition.

Here are some blue posts alluding to the coming changes:

    Q u o t e:
My friends and I were thinking about leveling up new toons on a different server. However, we were wanting to experience the "changed world". In the underdevelopment section, it says "shortly" before Cataclysm, the land will change.

Could you elaborate more on this? A day before? Two weeks? Please?

Even though we have a set December 7 release date for Cataclysm, we still want to avoid giving out specific dates for upcoming events and patches in the event we need to shift our scheduling around at all to meet production needs.

I'll try my best here to give you useful information without it feeling like a non-answer.

Be patient! If you're really hoping to roll brand new characters once the shattering of Azeroth takes place, I'd strongly recommend just waiting. You'll get a sense soon enough for how events will unfold from now until December 7. I suggest you stick to your main characters for now. Very soon the pre-Cataclysm events will begin and they'll continually ramp up in severity and things to do over time, leading up to the shattering (patch 4.0.3a). You're going to want to participate in these events, as they'll only be around for a short time and will not return once Deathwing is unleashed.

One thing we'll be clarifying a bit better next week is the distinction between what is in patch 4.0.3 versus when the shattering takes place.

Patch 4.0.3 will implement virtually all of the content necessary to make the changes to Azeroth, but those changes will actually take place in patch 4.0.3a, which is scheduled to be released shortly after patch 4.0.3.

So the shat is going to hit the fan and then deathwing will appear 1-2 weeks later?

I thought him exploding through the ground caused the shattering?

Deathwing emerges with the shattering, it just happens before the release of the expansion. In a nutshell, the December 7 release will unlock the two new races, new 80-85 content, level cap increase, and the Flight Master's License to fly in Azeroth.

So as soon as the shattering happens (before December 7), Deathwing will take to the skies as laid out here: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/th...87876560&sid=1

    Q u o t e:
The cinematic shows Deathwing bursting out and destroying everything in 2 minutes.

Ingame, the shattering is going to go a little differently.

Right now it looks like there's going to be a period before the shattering where elementals invade cities, the Twilight Hammer cult does evil things, and Deathwing soars around setting entire zones on fire.

Then, after the world has taking enough of a beating, the shattering itself will occur.

Almost correct, except for the Deathwing part. The pre-Cataclysm events will start getting a little crazy leading up to Deathwing's return. His return marks the shattering and subsequent random strafing of zones.

This is something that alot of people are very interested in. There's more than a few people that were upset to hear that the Insane in the Membrane feat of strength was going to be broken- even more so when we don't have a clear date that it will be broken, or even which specific factions will be broken.

Most of those changes are specific to when the world actually changes (mounts, feats, quests, etc). That's technically patch 4.0.3a. We'll have more information on the distinctions between patches 4.0.3 and 4.0.3a to announce next week.

[QQ]I can understand why they don't want to give dates out. They say the cataclysm happens on 11/23, then come 11/23 they have problems and can't roll it out. They don't want to deal with the QQ. But with the information they are giving us and the fact that we only have 40 days until 12/7, it seems they are making this up as they go. It sort of feels like they are releasing an unfinished product on 12/7. Half of the content from the product isnt even going to be on the dvd, it's all going to be from patches. What are they doing??

Then to say they are not getting rid of Insane in the Membrane, and then get rid of it and not even come out and warn us. People had to literally pester them for that information.[/QQ]

I don't think we'll see the shattering events on the PTR. Curious to know if some profitable items will be available only during these world events (aka Teebu's sort of item).

Oooh, I want Teebu's Freezing Longsword. I'm hopeful there will be some good unique things to grab as we move towards Cataclysm.

On the other note, I can't imagine having one person keeping all the details straight, much less trying to keep every blue poster on the same page on everything. Things are getting a complete overhaul. Stuff will get missed. Favorite quests, zones, items and everything else is subject to change. It's too bad that some blue in Europe posted incorrect information, but honestly, how many people are not going to be able to get Insane done because of those few days that they "lost"? Is there anyone who can honestly say, "I can't complete Insane now because I stopped working on it for the 5 days between those conflicting announcements."??

I just don't want to mess with it anymore. I wasn't that dedicated to it in the first place. If I knew it was staying I'd still do it but i'm not going to kill myself and alienate my family for a title . Now if it was a flying hippo mount that would be a different story.

Imagine this world with me: What if the girl that asked the question about Insane was not able to get that question in at Blizzcon? Would Blizzard have come forward with the information prior to release of 4.0.3a?

Given GC's demeanor when he was asked, he KNEW they were breaking it. It was like the one question he didn't want to be confronted with because it would have been easier to hide behind a forum and make the announcement confirming it when people found out their reps weren't going up anymore in 4.0.3a. I've seen him in years past, his quick answer about outcry for another Insane achievement tells me it was prepared and they probably knew about the blue post but did not want to address it to the entire customer base in a live situation. Dun dun DUNNN! I love conspiracies.

I know most people only know WoW and their interaction with Blizz has been only with this game, and maybe only in the past two years or whatever. But they've been like this forever. The mantra has always been, "We'll release it when it's ready". So more than likely, they ARE making this up as they go along because there are final touches they need to complete before it goes live. The basic guts of the game are ready, which allowed them to go gold for 12/7.

I remember waiting 3 years for patch 1.10 during Diablo 2. It was almost dead silence about it forever. No release dates, no notes, nothing. They gave a taste of it for a weekend, but afterwards we all waited like it was Christmas. And then one quiet October afternoon, the servers all went down at once, and Hell froze over. And then a few years later, they handed us a new game changing patch completely out of the blue. Part of the reason I love their style is that things are kept so secret until the last minute, and it's always worth waiting for.

I was actually thinking of the Diablo II patch. They made us wait years for the patch. Was it 1.11 that completely made everyone's character builds useless? I quit playing when that happened. Plus the hacked items and dupes just got to be too much. SOJ Oculus. LOL

The other thing to keep in mind is that they could always go back and fix it. Of course, that will piss people off too. "I went to all the trouble to do this when I was SUPPOSED to and now you're making it available to any putz who couldn't be bothered to do it before."

Bottom line, they can't please everyone. I agree, they probably did know they were going to break it. But, they have made no qualms about saying, if you want something, do it now. Don't wait to get it because they won't make promises about anything. Let's just put this out there, if you want the Ulduar drakes, get them now. If you want the Undying/Immortal titles, get them now. Sure they said they'd give warning before removing drakes, but do you want to take that chance?
