Ask the Devs - Professions Answers

    http://www.mmo-champion.com/content/...ssions-Answers

Couple things I see of note.

    1) Chaos orbs will eventually become BOE - When this happens is anybodys guess still but I would expect it to happen in 4.2 or the patch shortly after.

    2) Recipes that require Book of glyph mastery will be able to be learned via research. Book of glyph mastery will still be faster to get all the recipes though. I think this will show a drop in the book prices but I am not sure how much of a drop. I do think snowfall ink will see a spike in prices once people can do more research again.

    Thoughts?

Do you have plans to make gathering professions more attractive instead of making them skills that you would be inclined to take up on one of your alts? - Nanahuatzin (LA)

Yes, this is an ongoing goal. Specialized nodes and raid/dungeon drops for gatherers are a good start. Because gathering professions essentially pull currencies from the ground, we feel they are a valid choice for many players, especially those who want to be self-sufficient.
Paving the way for epic gems from ore from nodes in raids, conveniently ruling out botting at the same time. I'd like that. It being "a good start" suggests they may already have the implementation for this set up for a not too distant future patch.

I think its interesting Spoobob, yet concerning at the same time. If any of you rememeber the pure saronite nodes in ulduar. You needed a guild that could effectively get to Vezax to access them and then do they belong to the guild or the miner? If there are epic gems from nodes like this it becomes a huge question. How far in do you put them? How many guilds will just hold onto them for guild use effectively limiting the market to the few guilds that do sell them.

And with one stroke of the pen, having Herbing/Mining on my tank will become further proof of my genius - instead of being the badge of idiocy it is now.

Rich Saronite did not add anything specifically new tho, it was just a big Saronite node. I think it'd be more likely to be similar to Hyjal if they were to do it, beat a couple bosses, get some, beat a few more, get more. Saronite nobody in guilds really cared about, The BC epic gems however, were usually the property of the guild as they were so rare.

Don't overlook the dungeon part, that's an excellent way to keep out botters but to still allow the general populous to attain them. But if they are in dungeons, I would expect a roll to occur on the gems. Wouldn't surprise me if 4.3 or 4.4 introduced a 5man or two that had like "glinting pyrium vein" and "glinting elementium vein" that each dropped gems, and just had them inside of instances after bosses.

Changing BoGM is one of the best things they can do. Though this will make them less exclusive, and probably push prices down, it also helps ensure that people will actually know these glyphs. Something I was just realizing the other day was that if BoGM remain hard to find, new scribes aren't going to know everything, and the few that do from Wrath might not be active enough to support players who need those glyphs. And that's just really awful, as many of those glyphs are BiS. Gimping players because there aren't enough active scribes is not a good plan.

My guess would be after 4.2. While they could still do that in 4.2 pretty easily, I have a feeling they will wait one more patch before doing so. We shall see though.

One thing I will add to this though... when Chaos Orbs do become BOE, it wouldn't surprise me to see them purchaseable from the Justice Point vendor as well.

The other option for BoGM was to just put it on Cata loot tables, increase the supply and not force new scribes to do like 2 more months of research. There will still be a deterrent for new scribes since they'll have to spend like 3 months or so learning all the glyphs randomly. Granted if you want to learn all of the JC cuts it would take a while, but in that case you're able to cherry pick the ones you want.

I think you're reading into it too much to say that's how they are going to implement epic gems. Rather, as others said, the Rich Saronite would be classified as a Specialized Node without adding any new ore to the game. I'm expecting similar (with wording like "Melted Elementium" node, e.g.). Please don't turn this thread into yet another OMGEPICGEMS thread.

I would agree. I don't think Chaos Orbs will become BOE in 4.2. I think it will be a little further down the road.

I think the BoGM change is a good one also and I don't believe it will affect the price too much going forward. I think that people that can't afford them now will take advantage of the option to learn them slowly. Those who can afford them will continue to pay the same prices. What would be really interesting is if they make it so more glyphs can be learned from the BoGM's. If so, that might actually push prices higher. Imagine being able to learn every single glyph in one fell swoop.
