    DMF trinkets obsolete in 4.2?

Just saw a datamined rep trinket on MMO-champion.com

It's a "Avengers of Hyjal Faction Reward". Will this be the rep gotten in Firelands, or are they the new welfares from daily quests? If they are easily accessible through daily quests, how will this affect the DMF:trinket market?

    Edit: Thanks Thorzek

No need to link it as PTR it's in wowhead main DB

And for PTR it's [item lang=ptr]

And to answer the question I doubt they are obsolete. Volcano is BIS for many specs for normal and quite a few including heroic gear.

Also remember that as herb prices dropped making trinkets became even cheaper. Sure you won't get 30k per trinket anymore but new toons leveling will still be buying them to help get into heroics.

For that trinket in particular it will compete with the stones deck which is already pretty much a trash set anyway. I actually calculate my sales prices based on the other three with the stones set classed as a bonus and sell them at whatever price they are going for just to get rid of them.

For the other three trinkets they will likely be relevant throughout the expansion as they have been in previous expansion but they will gradually morph into purely 'leg-up' items to get people started rather than being a distinct choice for a serious end game player.

This may seem bad but this will coincide with ever increasing material price drops (as Aeg just said) which will allow them to become cheaper and still make a decent profit from them.

As for where they come from, it would seem they are a new version of the argent tournament from the structure they have currently announced.

Thoughts on the change to the Hurricane trinket? (increased proc damage, but it no longer crits or benefits from char-specific buffs) I think it will probably continue its gradual decline in value (losing ~1-2k each DMF, by my estimation) because it will still be worthwhile for most physical DPS classes; plus there's still a TON of agility on that particular item.

They didn't post any caster-trinket yet, only some tank-stuff. And considering the stats on that gear (seriously... Hit?) and watching especially that trinket, i don't think that it will be the most awesome trinket ever seen. As Thefluffyrocker already stated - the stones-trinket is crap, and the one you mentionned counts as replacement. So no big loss - so far (at least 'til we see Caster-trinkets if there are any).

The Stones-trinkets are pretty nice to push your AVG iLevel to get into heroics. That's all. On the other hand, Volcano and Tsunami are capable of competing with HEROIC Raid-Trinkets. If i remember right, then heroic items from the previous raid-tier are only a LITTLE bit worse than the normal gear from the new raid tear. And considering Volcano as BiS for most Casters even if they got 13/13 on farm, then at least this one will be the trinket of choice for ppl who start raiding with Firelands. Just my two cents.

I see the Tsunami trinket lasting a decent while yet, unless something amazing drops in Firelands raiding content. I run it plus on my resto druid, and my HPS plus mana regen are pretty nice.

the Hurricane Agility card is quite nice for Enhancement Shamans too. I have one on mine. Of the 3 trinkets though, I see Hurricane declining moreso than Volcano or Tsunami. But I think it will still hold its value decently over time.

Even if they do add some trinket to replace the others then it won't kill off DMF ones anyway, not if it is going to be gated along the lines of the argent tournament especially as it will take people time to obtain them. If your aiming to jump straight into HC once you reach 85 then that gated period is a long time to wait. Also the DMF trinkets are the only real choice if your looking to get an immediate gain.i.e. if you have the gold you can simply just go buy it. All other options have some form of gating/chance/work involved in obtaining them once you do reach 85 so there will always be a market for them.

As fluffy said, they will always hold value.

It's worth noting that back in Wrath, I bought the Crusade trinket for my raiding Hunter near the end of Naxx. I had that trinket equipped until normal mode ICC; partly because the trinkets in TOC hated me, but that trinket was still top-3 until HM-ICC.

I'm expecting similar from Volcano and Tsunami, at least.

While it's not wise to lean on precedent when it comes to Blizzard, it's definitely worth noting the viability of these trinkets. They are quite well itemized for their purpose (yes, excluding the tanking trinket).

Yes, the value of DMF cards will be zero about 3 weeks before 4.2 drops. So everyone stop making cards and leave the market to me alone. (looks innocent)

Seriously, like their Wrath predecessors, Cata DMF trinkets will continually represent a huge, relatively-easy boost to freshly level-capped characters, without all the effort of trying to squeeze themselves into top-end raids.

While their ah prices may drop over time, if you're careful on the mat-purchasing side, they can remain almost as profitable as they are now, throughout the expansion.

I'll just cut and paste this answer every time the question gets re-asked with each new patch.
