    4.1 Changes: Some Thoughts About Honor, Battlegrounds & Guild Challenges

    4.1 is coming fast and it's full steam ahead with speculation. I suggest checking out the 4.1 Speculation a go-go thread if you're looking to get up to speed on possible 4.1 opportunities. I feel that several points have not yet been discussed, these being the honor and battleground changes, and the new guild challenges announced on the latest PTR RC.

    Honor & Battleground Changes

    4.1 is bringing several changes and improvements to the battleground & honor system. My initial impressions are that battlegrounds are going to be very busy as a result of these changes. Indeed, in their current state, battlegrounds offer relatively no rewards as opposed to what should be launched in 4.1. Let's examine the pertinent changes:
    • There is a new title for winning 100 or 300 rated battlegrounds.
    • Several achievements have been "nerfed". I suspect that as a result several players will seek to complete these achievements, in particular [achievement]We Had it All Along *Cough*[/achievement] which is part of the meta achievement that reward the [achievement]Battlemaster[/achievement] title.
    • Battlegrounds now award guild reputation (through honorable kills).
    • The rate at which honor is gained has been doubled.
    • The goods available for purchase with honor points have had their cost reduced by 50%.
    • s can now be purchased for 3750 honor.

    Dump Your Maelstrom Crystals Now

    One thing is obvious to most goblins: Maelstrom Crystals are going to tank - probably to 300g or less. They will be disenchanted from epics in ZA/ZG, and become purchasable with Justice points as well. This is disheartening when you consider that a single Maelstrom Crystal costs a full honor cap. 300g for hours and hours of work? No thanks. Luckily there's a more profitable alternative for enchanters.

    Tangent: Honor can be dumped to purchase level 80 PvP gear, such as . These, of course, disenchant into which can then be shattered into and . Last I checked, each crystal is worth a staggering 50g, which makes a full honor bar worth over 1000g.

    Purchase Bracer Enchanting Formulas While They're Cheap

    Less obvious is that the market for bracer enchants (and any enchant requiring Maelstrom Crystals) is going to open up. Most players can't justify spending an extra 3000g+ on 15 stats, or will simply gather mats themselves and tip an enchanter to do the work. In their current state, expensive enchants don't yield a good return on investment. This will likely changes once Maelstrom Crystals tank. That being said, it's probably a good time to pick up bracer enchant formulas. The damn things are down to 1500g or so, I think that's a good price;

    Be Ready to Supply More BoA Cloak/Chest Enchants

    Finally, since every dog and his cousin will be grinding out battlegrounds, expect the BoA cloak enchant to open up a little bit. Though this changes little, since most goblins are already all over that market. You are keeping and on the AH, right?

    Guild Challenges

    The new "guild challenges" allow guilds to participate in dungeons, raids and rated battlegrounds. Completing a guild challenge awards guild experience and gold, which is deposited straight into the guild vault. But here's the most interesting part;

    Guilds already at the level cap will be awarded substantially more gold in place of guild experience.
    No word yet on how "substantial" these rewards will be. But one thing is for sure; guild challenges could make it worthwhile to run a guild for profit. I believe Gevlon from Greedy Goblin did just that, at the very least he pays members to complete achievements and level characters needed for said achievements. Personally, I don't run my own guild, and I have no idea whether the extra gold is worth the effort. If anyone has experience running a guild for profit, I'm sure many would die for some good advice.

    And that's all for today, apologies for the scattered thought. Sterling beaming out!

    Max level guild would already be seeing the profits from the lvl23 perk moreso then the xp capped challenge gold reward as it is my understanding it procs on DEing stuff as well as prospecting(?).

    I had the same thoughts on the bracers patterns, hell even just flipping them once the rest of the server catches on would be good if they are that cheap at the moment(hovering around 4-5k on mine atm).

    EDIT: I'm sure they would use the same XP>Gold ratio they do for level capped players and since the rewards are in the vicinity of 1.5m xp if would be a decent chunk, +10% from guild perks.

    I've been trying to find formula: enchant chest - greater stats for 6 months or more now, and about 2 months of having it on my TUJ notification list. So far I have been unsuccessful in finding this.

    I wish Abyss Crystals were going for 50g on my server... they are typically under 20g. I can even get them fairly regularly for 13-17g each.

    I don't believe Bountiful Bags (guild level 23) will give extra for Prospecting. You are already benefiting from mining, so if prospecting gave extra, it would be a double dip. Enchanting works since that is essentially the "gathering" act, like mining and herbing.

    I'm planning to get the new bracer enchants (have the Agi one already, just need Int and Str), but they are still upwards of 3-5k on my server as well.

    The is a bugger to get. That being said though, I've been lucky to acquire 3 of them at under 100g each. I used one so I could make scrolls and sold the other two formulas for over 5k each.

    Don't forget about as well. It's a lower cost enchant (they go for between 13-20g on my server), but the mats cost (2x ) are usually very cheap, so the margins are actually quite high. It's a popular enchant for PvP twinks.

    I'm looking forward to the price drop. I still need the pet from Horde side. Prices will drop a good bit and I can get one for relatively low cost. This will work for as well, for the Horde that still need one. Could be good items to do Arbitrage with, especially with the two new pet achievements coming out in 4.1.

    Great point about the Lantern and Lamp pets. I forgot about that, both of these markets will open up.

    Abyss Crystals are going for ~17g here as well. The point is that you shatter them, the resulting mats are worth about 50g (using TUJ market prices for everything). So you're in a good spot I would imagine.
