Question DMC Trinket - longevity of

If I recall, the WOTLK Darkmoon trinkets survived deep into LK as useful trinkets (outperforming their ilevel), and as such retained a good price until right near the end of Wrath. I think also some of this was down to a lack of good trinkets in the early patches, or at least a lack of readily obtainable ones to non-raiders.

Now we are in Cata, and the new Darkmoon trinkets are competitive early gear, but they dont seem to have the clear superiority that DMC Greatness once had. In addition, the readily obtainable trinkets from Tol Barad tokens are (I think) just as useful and can be earned quite quickly.

So, my speculative theory is that the current crop of DMC trinkets won't last as long as the Wrath ones, and that prices will start to drop not long after patch 4.1 (whenever that may be), potentially spiking at release of said patch as people spend some accumulated gold to finish their preparations for the next tier.

Any thoughts from anyone else on the long term profitabilty of Darkmoon production.

Yea they're not all BiS, and even the one or two that is probably won't last through the next patch, though I guess it all depends on the availability of trinkets in the next patch and how many alt raiders your server has, as they're more likely to buy these than main characters I would think.

DMC and Tol Barad trinkets are not even comparable right now.. Volcanic is BiS for any of the dps casters, even versus the current HC raid content.

Let's not forget about the lack of decent trinkets during the first half of Wrath. You had your Emblem of justice trinkets and a few from raids, that was it. Even with Emblems of valor you had no worthwhile trinkets even after Ulduar was released. So you were pretty much limited to getting lucky in raids.

These days you have, as you mentioned, Tol Barad trinkets, Valor trinkets, more raid trinkets than we know what to do with, BoE epic trinkets... and let's not forget more of all of that, specifically new valor trinkets, in patch 4.1.

The demand for darkmoon trinkets will plummet much harder than ever come 4.1. It may very well still be profitable to mess around in that market, but your sales will be considerably slower, with probably more competition with the lower herb prices.

I can only speak to the volcanic deck from a players perspective. I play a fire mage and have had the deck for around a month and a half now. I freakin love it love it love it. The proc of 1600 INT from it is huge and the internal cooldown is around a minute. I don't see how any other trinket with a 2 min on use or a passive ability that hits every 2 mins is going to replace this.

The +mastery makes this trinket good for all specs. I have reforged the mastery to crit and then haste and now I have it reforged for +hit.

The only way I am replacing this trinket is if Reg/Heroic versions of Heart of Ignacious stack. Volcano is an amazing trinket and won't be easily replaced even if you have access to raids.

I haven't rolled a healer yet this expansion but I think the healing trinket is along the same lines. The +321 int is amazing and the stacking buff of spirit has almost a 100% uptime. Making speculation based off of 4.1 I feel is foolish we have no idea of the ilevel or stats of any of the "new" raids. I wouldn't be suprised if the DMC trinkets stick around for a long time.

Even though the trinkets become less desirable as more gear is released they also tend to drop in price so more people are tempted to just pick one up, even as a filler, as they become so cheap they are almost disposable.

Usually trinkets are the hardest slot to upgrade as they aren't really a large number of options available so people will still be tempted buy them to get their Ilevel up to access content which actually gives better trinkets.
Even with trinkets for currency there's no guarantee they will provide upgraded versions of them for a start and they take time to acquire. Plus to buy them you have to not buy something else. Where as people can buy something else with their content currency and buy a trinket with gold which means they will gear up a lot faster comparatively.

Unless something radical happens i don't see the market for the trinkets being wiped out anytime soon or even in the near to middle future. I will also guess they will be in demand all the way through this expansion unless they start providing some easier to obtain entry level trinkets.

I don't really see the current prices remaining viable, long-term. I agree that they will likely remain a nice starter piece for freshly dinged alts, but seeing as they aren't BiS, 15 - 30K is quite a bit to blow on a temporary upgrade for an alt.

So, I suspect they will stay around, however, I don't think people will continue to pay top dollar for them.

Blizzard did mention quite awhile back that their intention was to keep profession-crafted gear as a viable "entry point" for players, so there has been much speculation about whether stats will change of new items introduced if they still plan to support this when the next tier comes out.

Well our crafting costs will come down to, when herb prices come down (I hope they come down, the prices on my server are still fairly high)

Really? I was not aware of that. Maybe they'll give new drop or purchased plans for each new tier like they did for BS/LW/Tailor etc

    That'd be sick

Technincally none of these are ever going to be bis b/c the ilevel is too low. But practically the volcano is BiS for any caster that isn't clearing heroics. I am feeling not much love for these amazing trinkets which we can produce.

If I recall correctly Blizz had stated that they planned on releasing more crafted "pvp" gear. So when S3 or S4 of Arena starts you can buy crafted gear instead of having to grind all previous Seasons gear to compete.
