    Pyrite ore and epic gems

Im in a boring class and writing this on my phone so i wont bother with proper itemlinks.

I know there have been a lot of speculation on epic gems and when they will be introduced, some say 3-4months others more, i belive they will come with the tier 2 patch. We know blizzard will add them, and i know many expect them earlier than in wrath.
I expect the prices on the pyrite ore will rise drasticly at the first hint on epic gems so it might be smart to start stockpiling cheap ore now. With the prices stabilizing i dont expect the pyrite will fall much in value.

    Your thoughts on this?

FYI my phone came up with quite a few funny auto-corrects

I've been wracking my brains about this one too. I'm soo tempted to just burn like 50k on Pyrite Ore and hope for at least a 20-50% profit.

On my server pyrite sells for 10-15g each, when they add epic gems i belive the prices will skyrocket hiting atleast 30-50g each the first week and stabilizing at 15-25g, but again it depends on how expensive the transmutation mats will be.

In my server prices of pyrite still varies wildly from day to day... One day it is at 220g a stack, the next at 420g...
My hope is of it stabilizing near 220g, since even at that price I can't get much profit out of it (gems and volatile earth are going incredibly low, and the same can be said about truegold (and I still don't have a maxed out blacksmith)).
I don't want to start stacking anything for the next two months. I don't think we'll see the new raid tier very soon and I don't expect epic gems to be released before that.

You're jumping the gun, IMO. I've felt a little of the same nervousness about Pyrite Ore pricing, but in the weeks and days prior to the 3.1 Patch, Titanium Ore had fallen to 4-7g each. The day of the announcement, after the lucky souls who bought out the entire AH, prices shot up to 10-20g per. And we still BOUGHT IT ALL. Then after the patch, I know I at least doubled my money, if not more. I know that trying to "time the market" is almost always a losing battle, but seriously, right now, we're not even a MONTH post-Cataclysm. Elementium Ore is already dipped below 4g/each on some servers, and will continue to fall. Personally, I'm waiting for Pyrite to go MUCH lower than it is right now.

There's no guarantee that epic gems will even come from Pyrite. As was said in another thread, epic gems have come from different sources in both expansions. Who knows if Blizzard will continue the path they took in Wrath?

Personally, I'm picking up pyrite ore when it dips below 100g a stack, and I'm up to about 30 stacks already. I'd hold off until you're seeing similar prices, as uses for pyrite atm are limited and will die down as the richest people around stop needing more BoE pieces.

We're still on the first tier of raid gear for the expansion, we'll start seeing more slots as tiers progress.

The biggest reason i am dubious about investing in this (apart from the fact it's not even anywhere near certain they will be obtained from pyrite ore) is the tendency Blizzard are showing in increasingly giving away previously hard to obtain materials or items.e.g. in a related theatre you can now produce endless amounts of rare gems if you are an alchemist (how profitable it is is a different conversation) and they mentioned doing so for epics just before the expansion, although this didn't quite happen in the end i would definitely not be surprised if it happened when they released epic gems for this expansion.
