    Cataclysm rare gems.

Been going through my endless supply of elementium ore lately.
I know that the enchanting mats and uncommon uncuts (zephs) sell nicely, but the biggest byproduct seems to be the rare gems.

Thumbing through wow-professions, they aren't used for leveling, and the prices on my server on the AH seem to be near vendor price, so.. I just vendor them.

But, just to be sure, has anyone else found use of these other than vendoring them?

I know I could craft them into the perforator, but the DE result is always shards, which are not used to level enchanting. They *could* be used to make the pets, but that also requires maelstroms, which I don't have a source of, and other enchanting mats, which to me, are not worth using to make the pets, given the price of the pets. Plus, I stocked up on a ton of the pets anyways using dirt cheap maelstroms right at the end of cata.

Wonder if cutting the gems will still yield a profit. But given that you don't get socketed gear until either cata or mop endgame, sales seem like they wouldn't be worth the time.

Ye they are pretty useless unfortunately. May as well keep a small supply on hand in case L85 twinking takes off.

Something you should try as well is meta gems. They don't sell that often, but when they do it's usually for 300-500g a pop.

I tried the meta gem shuffle and the ring/neck shuffle and for, me on my server, the neck/ring option is more profitable.

Regarding the rare gem: Don't vendor them. craft the Perforator, they vendor for a bit more then the individual gems. I tried selling both cut and uncut with no luck.

    Just my 2c.

I generally make them into the Perforator and vendor it rather than DE. Not a ton of profit (just under 5.5g), but better than nothing I suppose.

@Megatherion beat me to it by seconds :P

Meta gems. Hmm. Didn't even consider those. I'm only aware of one 85 twink on my server, but only because they stated it in /2
I might make a handful and toss em up to test it out.

Making and vendoring the perforator is a good idea. Didn't realize it was a better vendor value.

Not only that, but it's a time saver over cutting the 6 different types individually.

That is true, but Blizzard put sockets on a lot of BC gear, 60-70, because JC was a new thing.

What I meant was that, after BC, the model was that you don't generally see sockets on gear until endgame gear of that expansion because, otherwise, players felt the need to spend money on gems for gear that would get replaced within a level or two.

What TimB said is very true.

If you have a look at the links:
    http://www.wowhead.com/items=4?filte...80;crs=7;crv=0

    and

    http://www.wowhead.com/items=4?filte...rs=7:1;crv=0:0

You will see the amount of gems that would potentially be used while questing. You could take into account the items that drop from late Cata Normal 5men (you have quite a lot of them with soquets) but from my experience, on my server, the people that actually gem that gear is very low. The amount of posting, posting fee and undercuts make this market just not interesting and not really worth for me.

I usually only keep 10 or so stacks of each gem, but here's what I use them for:

    - Perforator to sell/DE
    - Monocles of various colors, slow selling, but people do pay for them
    - 365 epic weapons: I occasionally sell one on demand, I never stock them for any reason. I cannot fathom why people buy them, they aren't even cool looking.
    - Cut random gems on demand

Unfortunately, Blizzard kind of forgot that those have zero value. The biggest reason I still keep them is the fact that eventually Heavenly Shards and Maelstrom Crystals will be nearly impossible to find, and most people still want to use the Power Torrent/Landslide enchants for leveling alts from 77-90. Having an easy supply of shards when I need it is worth keeping some to me.

I need hypnotic dust, but I have no use for Cata Essences, so I prospect for disenchants, and I am vendoring rare Cata gems because they do not sell..and the deposit for a Cata gem is suprisingly high.
