    alch or herb

I'm trying to decide if I want to keep herb or not. Its maxed out on my dk
Along with inscription but I'm thinking about dropping for alch.
Herbs seem cheap on my server except for golden lotus.
I feel if I ever start. Making the type of gold I want which islots.
I Will be able to buy any herb I want. Plus I'm sick of farming.

    What do you guys/gals think.
If anything is jumbled I'm sorry I'm sending from my phone

If you love to farm, you should keep an Herbalist (and preferably on a Druid dual-gatherer that also has Mining).

    BUT...

Most folks don't like or want to farm, and farming makes very little sense outside of a launch. But my general feeling for anyone is that gathering professions are the best profession choice while leveling (for the bonus XP, and gold along the way)...but then at max level, you need to switch to a crafting profession. Crafting professions have a higher GPH (with just small effort). And a Transmute Master Alchemist is a great choice.

The one down-side is that leveling speed has increased to the point where it is difficult to keep up on Herbalism/Mining while leveling. Inevitably, you have to go back and play "catch-up" in order to stay current with the zone you'll be leveling in.

So in short - Alchemy. But there may be some good reasons to keep Herbalism.

I like to have all gathering professions available, "just in case", but in terms of goldmaking, crafting professions will always be a better choice long-term. When I decided it was time to drop herbalism on my main I levelled up a long-neglected druid alt as a dual gatherer (Herb and Minining) so that I still had the ability to herb. I haven't actually used his herbalism since.

The only gathering profession that I would view as essential for goldmaking is mining, since without it you can't smelt and ore is almost always cheaper than bars.

I'd totally drop Herbalism for Alchemy, as it seems that your main goal is making gold.

CD82: Why do you think Alchemy would be a good choice?

well this would give me a total of 3 alchs 3 xmutes a day. but im loosing out on the ability to farm herbs which i dont like farming.
but i do it if i have to do so it just bores me to death an feels like waste of time lol.

i was levling alch on my warlock and one thing i did notice there were some herbs.
that was not listed on the ah i had to farm so im not sure if wanna drop herb or not.
might can make a tiny bit of gold if i were to do some farming but just not sure heh.

I *think* (correct me If I'm wrong please :P, I could be reading too much into things!) what @Zerohour is getting at is why alchemy and not a completely different profession altogether, particularly if you already have/will have other alches. IE; why do you feel alche will be profitable

This is just imo, but if you intend to get a character to 90, try to have one profession on it that can make good use of spirits of harmony.
What I've done myself is, all my characters I don't intend to get to 90, I'll put ench, insc or alche on them(I actually have 3 insc/alches).
Those that will get to 90 ( and thus have access to spirits) I'll put one of tailor/bs/lw/engy and usually ench as a second on them.
I also feel you should branch out if you want to earn more, all that third alche will give you is one more living steel cooldown, whereas taking another profession would open up another market altogether.

    Just my 2c though!

Well. You will, some day, some time, become tired of farming and/or reach the point where you're good enough to stop farming and start crafting to make your gold. It happens to everyone sooner or later, it's inevitable. Though if it's after 1 week or 1 year of playing the AH varies depending on this persons will to become better.

Since you know of these forums you got all you need to make the transition from farming to crafting right here today.

Read some guides, browse some wowhead/tuj, profession sites on varies fansites and forums, read and learn from other peoples questions and discover all aspects of making money with your profession, not only the mainstream ways.

I think 5-10k is about enough gold to make the transition.

Seems fair enough to me. I just wanted to make sure you were considering your options.
