    5.3 and Heirloom Enchants

First, a little bit of background. Currently some heirlooms (those introduced in WotLK) work from level 1-80, while others (those introduced during Cata or MoP) work from level 1-85. To bring the WotLK heirlooms in line with the Cata/MoP ones, they added an "upgrade" option to turn the 1-80 heirlooms into 1-85 versions. Visit your local heirloom dealer, and you can exchange the 1-80 version for the 1-85 version costing various amounts of Justice Points, Honor Points or Darkmoon Prize Tickets. For example [Tattered Dreadmist Robe] + JP = [Bloodstained Dreadmist Robe]. Since you were exchanging one version for another, any enchants on the original versions are lost.

So here we are with 5.3 now live and one of the many changes was this:

Reduced the amount of Justice, Honor, and Darkmoon Faire tickets needed to upgrade heirloom items by 60%.

I think it's well established at this point that Justice Points are essentially worthless in MoP. People will be looking to spend them on SOMETHING and I feel they will be upgrading their heirlooms, especially with the recent drop in cost. All those shiny new heirlooms will need enchants!! Plus, many people have been running MC, BWL and AQ recently for the new pets so vanilla enchanting mats (or gear to DE into mats) are relatively cheap.

Admittedly this is a fairly niche market, but get those heirloom enchants up on the AH!

My regular post includes all the heirloom chants. Cloaks are the ones I probably sell most of - I advertise these ones mostly in trade as new players can get the BOA purchased items easily.

I'm on a small server and while not seeing the gem sales everyone else is raking in gleefully, (yet, the first weekend is our historical boom day) i've sold out entire stacks of each of my basic weapon ones. Mat farming time for air for me! (I'm rather glad I bought the competition out of the market recently). Its probably about 14k's worth on a low pop server.

The order of sales atm: Fiery > agility > crusader; Chest + 100 health, Chest +4 stats; steady sales on leg armour kits and scope (I don't have the MC one unfortunately) too. Several of the lesser enchants are also selling well, I threw everything sitting in an old Gbank out onto the ah, combined with Wowuctions sales list/TSM crafting suggestions its starting to form a bit of a picture for me.

Also, heirloom shields have been added. This means it's time to craft those shield spikes and enchants!

Any suggestions as to which enchants are best for the new shields?

Looks like [Enchant Shield - Vitality] would be your best bet for .

[Enchant Shield - Vitality] is also the best for from a survivability standpoint. Although [Thorium Shield Spike] should be a consideration as well since tank survivability in lower level dungeons is usually an afterthought. [Felsteel Shield Spike] is better but as a BC item it may not work, I haven't tested to check the restrictions.

What is selling for me is the good old fashioned wards which are temporary applications.... they seem to work, there were some mentions in various forums on the first day that enchants couldn't be applied for some reason, but I think that got hot fixed. As felsteel spike is a level 70 item I overlooked it in favour of crafting the thorium ones. I'd be interested to know if anyone has had success in applying it.

Sounds obvious, but what sells is what people select. There is no "guide to heirloom shield enchanting" yet. Why people choose what they do (and any marketing you do) will influence the market considerably. Spikes provide a DPS buff, but will a tank trade +10 stamina for thorium [+20-30] or felsteel [+26-38] damage on a successful block?

Heirloom successful enhancing is a bit hit and miss, so having reconsidered felsteel spikes, it may be worth sitting down with all the higher level items as well. While I only sell a few Blood Draining/Bladeward enchants - they can be successfully applied but do not work until a character is over level 75. Same with scopes and shoulder enhancements, they work when you meet the requirements. Now that Heirlooms go to 85, this last 10 levels +10 stamina is nothing. Theory crafting might easily show something that gives a % gain, or gains with successful chances to be superior. Then again, selling those relies on your market being smart enough to purchase - or know to purchase these items.

At least for now Vitality is likely to be the healer choice, and probably the same for tanks. (see Cold's post on this back from 5.2 when they were due. )

I've been slowly stockpiling all those levelling scrolls since then, I love 1s bids I also look out for people in trade who are skilling up - they are a good source for many of these items - many times people levelling don't realise the value/usefulness of various enchants and if you offer them the vellums + something to the mats you can often get a tidy pile of the various useful (saleable) scrolls quite for less than buying or farming that mats. Especially good if you don't happen to have an enchanter of your own.
