Time to pick up a new tradeskill.

With the price of mats dropping across the board I think this is one of the best times we are going to get to pick up a new trade skill. Even if you have all the tradeskills maxed thats not an excuse to not level another one. With so many things in cata based off of cool downs and with those items going to be worth a good hunk of gold im guessing it would only take a few weeks to make your gold back.

Alchemy, JC and maybe tailoring would be great ones to double up on, in my opinon. Be cautious with Alchemy though, because the glyph market might still be sucking the lower level herbs dry.

But, watch your server prices. My server is in denial that Cataclysm is coming, and no one has done any freak out dumping. If anything, materials are fewer and more expensive.

Just be aware that while old-world mats were a pain to farm up or buy off the AH, the amount of TBC and WOTLK mats required to go from 300-450 is staggering. Even if old-world mats are suddenly cheap, the steep part of the hill is still 300-450.

Even with the BC mats being pricey its still going to be the best time to pick up most tradeskills. The price of WotLK mats will more then likely do the same thing as BC mats and go up across the board in the future.

This last Sunday, I just powerleveled blacksmithing.

    Total gold spent: 5382g

    Vanilla Materials: 583g
    Outlands Materials: 3130g
    Wrath Materials: 1312g
    Training: 357g

Based on that list, you can see the price of Outlands materials was a major hold up.
I would suggest you do this now, rather than later, or you may face the same hurtle with Wrath materials in the future.

The other option to consider..... Gobble up some cheap mats, and store them for later. Keep in mind, MUCH later.

I've been working pretty feverishly to level up as many different professions on my toons for this very reason. The cost will only go up.

I've just done mining in two nights (dropped alch from my main, will pick it up again when ore prices level out) cost me about 1000g in ores to smelt, then about 3 hours from 375-450.

    I hate it.

    Better be worth it!

If Titansteel in Wrath is any indicator, Mining will definitely pay off. JC alone will buoy the profession itself through the whole expansion.

I'm trying to feverishly level my Shaman to 80 so I can drop Herb and Skinning for Alchemy and LW. She'll be my first LW and second Alchemist. My tailor alt is also a 350ish JC, who I need to get up to Wrath level; I may do this over the weekend on her.

I have a some extra free time coming up, so I may be able to get my Shaman to high enough level to swap. I could probably do it now (she's 72) but my Borean Leather stocks are relatively low. I may as well do it for "free" instead of paying someone else to skin for me (until Cata...>.>).
